Wow Java, you are just getting all the patients sent to you this year! I hate to see it...so frustrating isn't it? I'm glad you're posting and sharing all the details with everyone. I think there are a lot of people who read and learn from these postings, but don't post their own responses. I hate you had to cut off the bloom! It looks like you were able to catch it in time and you've done a great job removing the nasty part. I will recommend what I have learned here from Jodi and Maria to use a cotton ball and wipe the bulb all over with a mix of 50% water and 50% hydrogen peroxide. Allow it to dry for a while and then mix a little water with Captan to make a "paste" of sort and paint the entire bulb with it and allow it to dry for a week or at least a few days. I have found this method very effective and you'll know because no more red will be present after the process. Then I would pot it in a very well draining mix, but very high in the pot so that moisture or medium doesn't touch the part you just removed. Water very carefully and sit back and wait for all the pretty leaves to come! Good luck, and yes please let us know how it goes. -Frank

Arif, I'm sure it will recover too! We have discussed slicing off really thick basal plates previously to revigorate bulbs. As you can see in the first photo, the roots are growing out of the portion of the basal plate closest to the bulb, so it would seem that the rest is unnecessary. GOOD LUCK!! K

Thanks to Jshore's suggestion, I'm making sure that everything is pre-cut into small pieces as I won't be able to cut things for at least the first week. I had NOT even thought of that before she suggested it! I have my list (thanks to you all) of things to do and to buy in the next 4 days and am checking them off one by one. I feel so, so much more prepared because of you all. I am usually a super-organized person, but have found that in stressful times like this, I do need a little help from my friends. Thank you for that! I'm off to go iron 3 or 4 shirts for DH. By Sunday, I'll have a at least a week's worth ironed and ready for him. Lynn

He did this in his office? Sounds like a need to have something like this done in a hospital. I do hope you will recover and your troubles will be over. If PT is recommended, be sure you do your exercises. I know what you mean about surgeries every year...in the last four years, I have had two hips, one knee completely replaced and a torn menscis repaired....can't have anymore, my "buddy" is not here to help me anymore.
