Had in-office surgery today

Has any one ever had surgery on their tendon in the elbow at the Dr's office. I have been having lots of problems with my elbow over the past years. 3 years ago I had a basal joint removed in my hand. Last year I had the basal joint removed in the other hand & elbow surgery, I had torn tendon & massive ligament damage. Over the summer it was not healing so in Nov another surgery. He found out I never healed as there was no blood flow to the elbow. He took a muscle from the middle of my arm & moved it to my elbow & attached the ligament. This only happens in 5% of all surgeries. Well that is healing ok for now but the other side of my elbow is very bad. He went in with a long knife & cut the tendon to make it bleed, they say when it heals it sometimes will help the pain. If not it will be another surgery this fall. This one will be worse as he will have to repair nerves as well. Has anyone here had this done or know of anyone who has. Surgeries every year is getting very old.

Yikes, Mary, sounds like an awful way to spend the day! I hope your recovery is swift and uneventful, and that this is the last of these problems. Good luck and take care.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Are you going to a specialist? After your surgeries, are they recommending therapy? Just curious.

Both DH and I have had MOHS surgeries in the past few years, we are in our 60's. It is usually recommended for the face. It's great if you have a plastic surgeon lined up in case it's larger than anticipated. Mine was a tiny spot above upper lip, basal cell. I wish I had gone with the fluoricel cream(sp) as I ended up with a huge hole requiring skin grafting, stiches etc. Later on sympathizing with several other patients, who underwent the same procedure, we all felt this particular civilian, dermatology group pressured us to undergo the MOHS, because we had good insurance, and they were more concerned with profits. (I had mentioned to the dermatologist, that my husband had been prescribed cream by the military MD, for the basal cell, cancers on his face, the doctor's response was that the military used the cheapest methods available, and that if I didn't get the MOHS asap the cancer would continue growing at a rapid pace). The military doctors discovered a squamous cell on DH's earlobe about a year later. He was in and out of the hospital for a MOHS within a couple of hours. Granted the ear lobe is different than upper lip but his MOHS barely shows any scar unlike mine. As for the fluoricel cream, DH has been prescribed that many times over the years for his face and body. Yes it's uncomfortable, and for a couple of weeks unsightly but it does the same thing as MOHS without cutting chunks of flesh out and having to reconstruct! I would be very cautious about the dermatologist, the dermatology practice, and whether the skin cancer is basal or squamous cell, also the size/location and if you decide to go ahead with MOHS, make sure the reconstruction surgery is performed by a board certified, facial plastic surgeon who has a lot of experience and comes highly recommended!

Sending a prayer that all goes well. My first knee operation was on both knees at the same time (not a smart move, as I didn't have a leg to stand on!), but I was in my early 30's, so it went well. The problem was the therapy that followed. They were too aggressive and I ended up re-tearing the meniscus in one knee. Therapy is critical, but it shouldn't be done to the point where it really hurts.

Kat--she had her 4th knee surgery. The first surgeon put screws in her knees that were too LONG. This surgeon had to re-do them. He said no one should have to have surgery like this, especially not 4 times and especially not at 16 y o. My DD and her DH are friends w/ the first surgeon. They won't even tell him about his mistake. I think they have grounds for malpractice, but they won't even consider it.

Yes JP- Start rockin that knee ASAP!! I'm preaching here from a downstairs bedroom! Damn spring cold!!! Missed work yesterday, & today is the normal day off. OSP- I KNEW it! Should'a had my surgery in JH!!! That way, I could've done my rehab at the Four-Seasons there....;-) DW & I walked through there in July 2013. Were staying in West-Yellowstone, but drove thru YNP one day, then down to JH. MIMI- I bet you've got lotsa rehab stories you could tell!!? My CPM-Machine was on when I woke up...I THINK... If not, it was on soon afterward! You also reminded me that I had started "Pre-replacement" exercises 2 months b4 surgery too! "Go in stronger" was kinda their mantra... Faron

He did this in his office? Sounds like a need to have something like this done in a hospital. I do hope you will
recover and your troubles will be over. If PT is recommended, be sure you do your exercises.

I know what you mean about surgeries every year...in the last four years, I have had two hips, one knee completely replaced and a torn menscis repaired....can't have anymore, my "buddy" is not here to help me anymore. He was so good to take care of my needs and get me to my PT appointments, etc.

marie-ndcal-yes he is a orthopedic specialist one of the best in TN. No therapy, he knows we live 50 min. away to get therapy so he shows me what to do & I do it at home.
phoggie-Yes this is done in the office as long as you can stand some pain, which I can. I too have had 2 menscis repaired & a torn ligament repaired in my knees. I have always done better at home doing the exercises then going to PT.
mare wbpa- it was done in the office & it took about 1 hr. not too bad, I just hope it works.

That must be a pain to deal with. Is your arm in a sling? Does it bend?

I go to the same orthopedist that the Orlando Magic use! I had a torn menescis fixed a year ago and it is as good as new! Never bothered to get the ACL fixed that happened a few years back.

Make sure you don't do too much too soon with that elbow! Easier said than done I know.

Years ago, when he was young and healthy, before he had MS, DH had a sore elbow. He went to an orthopedist who said he had "Golfer's elbow", essentially a tendon trapped in the joint. Most likely from lawn mowing. DH is no golfer,for sure. He had surgery in the doctor's office (not the same day) and it was cured!
