I personally do not like the taste of Redi Whip. I can tolerate Cool Whip, but to be honest, if a recipe calls for Cool Whip, I use real whip cream.

Squirt the rediwhip in an 8 ounce cup? It might deflate though, I think it's lighter than the cool whip. HTH!

I don't eat Cool Whip cuz I don't know what the @$#% it is!

I always sub real whipped cream if a recipe calls for fake.

I love cool whip! Straight from the freezer :)

I can eat frozen cheesecake, frozen brownies, frozen grapes and frozen strawberries and I have even been known to eat a bite of frozen pizza....but not Cool-Whip.

I like rediwhip a lot ( I use it all the time for me only, on fresh fruit), however, I don't think it has the stabilizing components of cool whip so I wouldn't sub. I would use real whipped cream that has a package of plain gelatin whipped with one pint of cream.
Still, it really depends on the recipe. Cool whip is popular for it's maintenance qualities, if not much else.

Isn't Reddi-whip real whipped cream. I know some of the aerosols aren't but I thought Reddi-whip was 100% whipping cream with no additives.

I don't have an answer, ...but I love Cool-Whip! I don't know what it is, and I really don't care. It's great!

The can of Redi-Whip lists the first 4 ingredients as cream, non-fat milk, corn syrup, and sugar.

My store brand tub of Cool Whip has Water as the first ingredient, with corn syrup as the second. There is not a bit of cream, milk, or other dairy product listed.

I used to use a product called Dream Whip - a powder stuff that you added milk to, and then whipped it. At least you knew it was milk. I don't have any here, any more - it's difficult to find - but it was nice to have on hand when you suddenly found that you needed whipped cream/milk type product.

Here is a great substitute for Cool Whip:

STABILIZED WHIPPED CREAM

1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
4 teaspoons cold water
1 cup heavy whipping cream (very cold)
1/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Combine gelatin and cold water in a small saucepan. Let stand until thick. Place over low heat, and stir constantly until gelatin dissolves; about 3 minutes. Remove from heat, and cool slightly.

Whip cream, sugar and vanilla until slightly thickened. While beating, slowly and gradually add gelatin to the whipped cream mixture. Whip at high speed until stiff.

Makes about two cups

If you read the label, it says NON-DAIRY TOPPING! So it wouldn't have milk, or milk products. We use it in the summer at the camp for exactly that reason, non-dairy, for the kids with allergies or dietary restrictions. It's also pareve for the kosher kids. It's a "topping" and it is what is.

I don't think the Reddi Wip will hold up depending on the recipe. It does say made with real cream but it also has other stuff on the ingriedent list. I remember Dream Whip from way back when. DM made some kind of dessert with it but I can't remember what.

Carol, I remember being busted a long time ago as a kid eating Cool Whip from the freezer. It was some holiday and myself along with a couple of cousins had a good time raiding the freezer down in the basement laundry room...I remember cookies and bars being involved too....man, did we get in trouble. LOL!

Another good use - of the containers - for painting. Comes in handy to hold the paint when you are up on a ladder edging or doing touch-ups around the house.

I use 'em all, depending on what I'm making.

There is no substitute for whipped cream, IMO. No gelatin, either. Just whip the cream, add vanilla and powdered sugar. Or don't if it's for a savory dish. It keeps for days in the fridge, whether in a covered glass bowl or as filler between cake layers or whatever else. No aftertaste or coating on the tongue or roof of mouth. Love the stuff. It's cheap, too.

Actually, Cool Whip is not completely dairy-free. It has a milk derivative in it and for that reason, I cannot have it. Its the same with Coffee-Mate coffee creamer - it states that it is non-dairy but when you read the label it has a milk derivative in it. Can't have that either.
