Coconut Dulce De Leche Sauce

I haven't tried this recipe, but it sounds DIVINE!

My biggest question to you all, do you think it would need to be refridgerated afterwards as the only ingredients are coconut milk (which is already canned), brown sugar, and kosher salt?

The original recipe says it needs to be chilled, but it would be great to give as a gift if it didn't need to be chilled. I'm not talking about canning it, but just putting a lid on it and keeping it at room temp. What do you think?

Coconut Dulce de Leche Sauce

Recipe source: Bon Appetit

2 14-oz cans unsweetened coconut milk

1 1/2 cups packed golden brown sugar

1/2 tsp kosher salt

Whisk coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a heavy, large skillet over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to med-high and boil until mixture is reduced to 2 1/2 cups, stirring occasionally, about 20 minutes. Transfer sauce to small jars. Cool completely, then cover sauce and chill. Can be made 1 month ahead.
