If you paid for Traffic, then the contractor owes you the difference in product cost. Yes, a coat of Traffic can be applied over Mega. However, Mega or any other existing coat needs to be be properly prepared to be successful. Just so you know...there is Traffic and then Traffic HD...and yes Traffic HD costs more than Traffic. I just returned from a job I did with Traffic that is eight years in service in an active house; floors, steps and trim. Except for the usual damage from denting, the floors look fabulous. Some will tell you that Traffic is overkill...well that overkill looks awfully good after eight years. Most of the contractor complaints regarding Bona products resides in the higher product costs and recent Bona marketing practices in the U.S.

Here are some evening photos of my white oak select grade hardwood, site installed, with one coat of Bona Natural seal and two coats of Bona Traffic HD Matte. It’s a lot lighter IRL than in the photos. I agonized over what sealer to use (bought different stains, Loba 2k, all sorts of products). This combination seemed to look the closest to the natural wood (which I LOVED). The sealer did make it a tiny bit darker but it’s ok. I also included a photo of my stairs. They are red oak. It was a fortune to replace the stairs so we kept the red oak and used one coat of wheathered oak stain and two coats of Bona HD traffic extra matte (same as on the floors). Two lessons learned: Use a third coat of Bona HD traffic in high-traffic areas (our first floor gets a ton of wear with a dog and three teenagers, a third coat would have added an extra layer of protection against scratches). If you are a sheen person and like gleaming wood floors, do not use matte, use a satin finish. I had satin in my other house and I do miss the shine of a freshly washed wood floor. Although a matte does do a great job of hiding scratches. We installed white oak throughout the house (with the exception of the stairs) and even in the kitchen. I love wood floors in the kitchen - easier on the feet, knees, and not cold like a tile floor.

Three coats of Bona Traffic should do just fine. Ask if you PAID for HD. If you did, ask for a discount. If you did not, then there is nothing they did 'wrong' with the billing.

In theory, if I clean the floor properly and just lay another layer of Traffic HD on top, since the floor is already abrasive from the previous botched job, will the new coat at least adhere to the floor without having to buff again? No - the finish is passed it's curing period. Which is the 72 hours from the last application. It will not chemically bond. It can only mechanically bond. Which means you need to do a light sanding with 220 grit just to scuff up the finish. Is there any other product like Rejuvenate Restorer that can salvage the situation? Rejuenate is a polish. Do not use it on wood floor finishes. You will ruin it. You do not need to rent a buffer. You can use a random orbital sander. It's a little more work but, will get the job done. You won't have to worry about cutting through the finish onto bare wood. I would address the high traffic areas first. So who knows if the referral was all fake too Beware of fake reviews. There are companies out there that provide service for fake reviews. I get these sales call everyday. 50, 100 plus reviews - You will need to wonder how many of them are authentic and organic. Plenty of homeowners here hire contractors with good reviews onl;y to end up with a renovation nightmare.
