Angelaid, whenever I burn stuff onto glass bakeware I put ALOT of liquid dishwasher soap (Casade, etc) into the pan with really hot water to the top and let it soak overnight. After washing with scrubbie, what ever is left I scrub with an SOS. This has worked wonders for me. Good luck. Sorry about the burnt on mess.

Oh geez, sorry to hear about the lamb and the pan. Like Heidi, I tend to fill the dish with hot soapy water, let it sit for several hours and then start scrubbing. Sigh.

I think you could use oven cleaner on the glass, I had some instructions to use it on my fiberglass tub! However, I'm not sure how many times I'd have to wash it to make sure I got the cleaner off, so we wouldn't be eating THAT.

Baking soda and salt make a pretty good "scrub", mix to a paste with a bit of water and scrub away....

Oh no. I'm sorry Angelaid. I hope this experience doesn't stop you from attempting to cook lamb shanks again.

I've used the powder version of cascade to soak pots and pans that have tough to remove baked on stains. Works great. And if it doesn't work for you, then I would try the oven cleaner.

There's a spray (not airosol) called Dawn Power Dissolver that I think really works well. They call it a dish pretreater and oven cleaner. I use it and baking pans and it really does remove the brown baked on grease even if it's been there for years. Fine on Corning Ware and Pyrex too.

I have used an SOS pad on an awful pyrex dish....I know they say not to....but I figured it was ruined anyhow...
I was gentle and careful not to scratch the glass and it was fine!
Now I do it if I get a bad spot that doesn't respond to a plastic scraper....but I am careful.

Here's another that works great for baked on, especially casseroles. Dryer sheets. Put 2 sheets and hot water and let it sit overnight. Wipe away in the morning.

While at my brother's last week, I picked the sweetest oranges I've ever had with the intention of making marmalade.

I prepared to make a double batch. I peeled, diced, and slivered last night, boiled the requisite 5 minutes and 18 hours of rest. Today I purchased canning supplies then boiled another hour, added 8 cups of sugar (they were so sweet already so I cut back on the sugar). Well, just before putting them in the jars, I got a phone call from the insurance agent saying that they were pulling out of Florida. While letting loose on the agent, the marmalade burnt. I started pulling out the blacked pieces but the taste was permeated through the marmalade. Not to mention the mess on the stove.

Oh geez, Cathy, I'm so sorry to see that. Jam and marmalade can go from thick to scorched so darned fast. I'd have turhed the burner off when the phone rang, it'll come right back up to a boil with no harm done.
