What to do about the darned hackberry?

Hello all,

I identify with the poster wanting to kill the palo verde. My problem is the hackberry tree. I'm fairly sure that's what I have although ours is not an evergreen. We have two medium sized trees in our backyard which send offspring everywhere, deep into our granite landscaped areas and their roots are INCREDIBLY difficult to pull up. I have tried everything but it seems even if I leave a centimeter of root behind, it crops again. Can I neuter the trees? How can I kill the babies FOREVER? Or does it just come to removing the trees altogether...probably by professional company? Keeping them the way they are is not an option.

Thank you!

Kate
