Constant leg movement

I have had this annoying problem for a while now that I can't seem to control. While laying down on the couch or bed, my right leg/foot is constantly moving. When I try to stop it by putting my left foot over it, then my left foot does the moving.

I am o.k. when I am driving a car or sitting up-right, it just seems to occur when laying down. It's a sub-conscious little annoyance that's starting to bother me big time.

Any ideas???

When I first saw the title of your post, my first thought was "restless leg syndrome". But your symptoms don't really sound like that. RLS doesn't cause my legs to constantly move.... it's more like a tingly, itchy sensation in the legs that causes an uncontrollable urge to move them. And it doesn't happen just when lying down, but also sitting, and always in the late evening or during the night. Also, putting one foot on top of the other would NOT calm my leg that wants to move; in fact that leg will want to move even more. It is an uncontrollable urge to move the legs. For me, going to sleep is the only relief.

When did your symptoms begin and for how long has this been happening?

It's been happening for probably 2/3 yrs. now. However, I have just recently noticed that it appears to be getting worse -- meaning, that I am just more aware of when it happens. It never hurts or has shooting pains (as seen on the t.v. commercials), and it doesn't seem to matter if it's day or night.

Just weird, and uncontrollable, unless I really concentrate on keeping it still.

GSD's are known for a few things. A sensitive stomach, having a hard head and allergies, all sorts of them, (food, air born, you name it). They are without a doubt my favorite dog, very guarding, loyal, and basically a "one person dog". It is nothing unusual for puppies to experience what you describe. Their little systems are developing, just like that of a two legged infant. That said, pups need to be monitored carefully for at least the first 5-6 months. What might seem "normal" for a puppy, can rapidly turn into a real mess, literally and figuratively. Make sure you keep your vet informed about what is going on. Research everything that happens to your pup and what vets prescribes and says. Consider making a daily chart of the dogs habits so you can have something to refer to if you run into issues you need to deal with (you will, trust me). There are lots of people who have different opinions about what to feed their dogs. What you experienced may have been part of the problem, maybe not. Who really knows. Given that you are starting to have issues with the ears and stomach, I would just not take a chance and switch to a hypo allergic food (I think venison and potato is best). This is a top quality food you can get only by prescription. Ive used it for 17 years with great success. My old girl who was Lab/Shepard had a corn allergy, it took care of that and Im convinced helped her to live to be 14, even though she had at least three other very serious health issues. I now have two dogs on it, one because of a wheat allergy, the other a Shepard/Hound has the same thing plus a history of UTI that has been under control since September 07 (thank you Sirius God Dog). You mention poop eating and supervision. Your pup should have every second supervision, with a leash when not crated, until she has: Teething and chewing under control, and is house trained, with no accidents for 9 months (aside from illness). Without having these very basic behavior issues under control, she is just not ready for unsupervised freedom. Good luck! SG

Although they are very seldomly used today, piston pumps are positive displacement pumps. Water enters a cylander and a moving piston pushes the water out in a positive displacement. These type of pumps have two serious drawbacks for residential applications. 1. They are low volume pumps, which means to increase volume we must use larger pumps. 2.If a positive diplacement pump pushes against a closed system, the water will not compress therefore the force must be relieved in some manner or it will damage the pump, piping system or the storage tank therefore it is absolutely essential that we have an air/water type pressure tank to aborb the energy and control the pump operation. A centrifigal pump is a Non-displacement type pump. The centrifigal pump works by rotating an impellor at high speed. The water in the impellar is then thrown outwards against the pump body at high velocity which attempt to compress the water against the impellar housing. Understanding that water will not compress, this action then increases the pressure of the water which is relieved by pushing the water up the discharge pipe. The also causes a reduction in pressure at the impellar center intake opening which sucks additional water into the impellar. (techically speaking there is no such thing as suction. The water is actually forced into the pump by standard atmospheric pressure pushing down on the surface of the standing water in the well. The actual intake pressure is determined by how deep the pump intake is below the standing water level.) Centrigal pumps are rated by TDH (total dynamic head). Simple centrifigal pumps such as a sump pump have one impellar and while they have a high volume they typically have a very low TDH. By example, a common 1/3hp sump pump might have a TDH equal to 30gpm @ 12' lift. A one square inch vertical column of water physically weighs .434lbs per foot of vertical rise therefore a pump that produces a 12' lift has an output pressure at the pump discharge port of 12'x .434lbs = 5.2psi. When computing the TDH of the piping system we must then compute the physical weight of the standing head of water in the riser pipe + the friction head of the water as if flows through the pipe and fittings. The total TDH of the piping system is then subtracted from the Dynamic pressure of the pump to determine the resultant flow at the pipe discharge point. As you can see a centrigal pump is a very high volume pump but it is a low pressure pump. When centrifigal pumps are used as deepwell pumps they stack multiple impellors so that the output of one impellar is the input to the next one. If you could see a deepwell centrigal pump in a cutaway view the impellar section would look very similar to the compressor stage of a jet engine. The distinct advantage of these non-displacement pumps is that the impellars can rotate even though there is no flow of water through the pump without undue damage to the pump. In theory of course. In actual practice, if a centrigal pump rotates with an empty chamber small droplets of water are propelled at high speed and they hit the impellar blades or pump body like a shot blaster and can cause pitting, chipping or other severe internal damage. In your case the deepwell pump is the "prime mover" for your entire water supply system. This means that the pump must not only lift the water from the well to the structure, but it must also produce the code required 35psi static head pressure to insure proper flow through all your fixtures. In order to do so the pump must be pushing into a closed system. If you were to discharge the water from the deep well pump into a reservoir that is open to atmosphere you would then need an auxillary pump to produce the required static head pressure for your plumbing system.

yeah, I WAS so proud of those blooms! as for what she does at night - sleeps outside in her pen! lol! I really don't know what to do with her this summer tho. I hate to make her stay outside, tho my boy did. girl did a lot too. they liked the outside. Boy was terrified to come inside (I brought him in once - he hated it). and girl was fine til she got older - like about 7 or so. Puppy did spend last summer outside but it was a rather mild summer here. I don't think it'll be mild this summer. Puppy is already eagerly dragging me to the new place in the afternoons. she still isn't real sure of the steps but is doing better on them. She fell off of them on one of the first days we went over there. nancy - can't imagine a dog that can open drawers! It'd be all over for me... I totally know about letting them get away with almost murder because they're sick -lol! I spent the last yr apologizing to my girl for anything I ever said harshly, yelled at her abour or denied her. I was up and down all night long, every night taking her out for a walk and /or fixing her something to eat. I'd be up at 2 am making her eggs, a sweet potato or chopping her a carrot. I even made her mini turkey sandwiches when I had one... and food thief? my old girl once stole half of a cinnamon roll (with maple icing) that I had (in a bag) on the vcr (for my late night snack). She must have stole it when I was getting my dinner - then heard me returning. I forgot about it until I curled up in bed for the night. I found it - it was tucked under my PILLOW! no longer in a bag either. yeah, pup is medicine (mostly). my other 2 were also. I think they kept me going the 1st 8 yrs I was sick and hardly ever out of bed. I knew I had to force myself to feed them, fill the pools and water dishes etc. and that's part of the reason I got puppy a yr ago while girl was still here. I sure didn't need more to do this past yr. the crazoid went nutso a few hrs ago. I went out to see what was wrong. A tiny bit from a tumbleweed was blowing around by her and she was in full attack mode - except she couldn't reach it. It was tormenting her - all about 4 or 5 inches of it along with the maybe 2 'branches' on it, each maybe 2 inches. As any mom would do, I charged out there to the offending tumbleweed and stomped it to death. Then she was fine and ready to play catch.

Go down to your local hardware store or big box store and buy a piece of 1/16 x 1/2 in stainless steel strip. Cut it about 2" longer than the space between the trellis and wall. Drill holes in both ends about 3/8" from both ends, then make a 90 degree bend 1" from each end. The will give you a bracket the can be screwed to the back of the trellis and into the wall. If you can not find a stud on the wall. you may need to drill a hole in the wall and use a butterfly nut. I have this also. But it's my smaller three toes on my right foot that twitch, all simutanously. I never knew it until my neice asked me why I keep moving my toes. It seems they do it more when I'm talking or in deep thought and it happens only when I'm sitting with my legs up or laying down (when my muscles are relaxed.)
I also have restless leg syndrome, but this is very different.

Mine happen when sitting and lying down, all the time for past month. Nothing stops them but walking. Even happens when I try to lay down and sleep. Keeping me up at night. Took restless leg syndrome medication but it did nothing for me. No pain or itchiness in legs/feet. Just feel the constant need to move legs/feet. Driving me crazy!!

Its probably a sign that your bored, and if your left leg moves, it means your annoyed. Look up Paul Ekman's macroexpressions and how body language reflects your mood, or thoughts.

I have also had this problem for quite sometime now. I feel like it is some sort of ocd problem or something? It drives my husband crazy and I really can't think of a way to explain it to my dr other than my feet move a lot at night while I'm sleeping. I'm thinking it may have somthing to do with nerves.

Consider your diet first. I have not had that problem but I have had muscle twitching, that disappeared after looking it up and discovering that a lack of magnesium can cause that problem. Very necessary for the muscles and nerves. And it is not all that plentiful in the Standard American Diet. I had already been eating dark leafy green vegetables and thought that should have been a good source of magnesium, but the source I read, said that nuts and seeds have a lot more magnesium in them, so I ate nuts and seeds at every meal and in 24 hours it was cleared up. Raw, organic seeds. Grind them in a coffee grinder, if you have trouble chewing them.

It is amazing how messed up our diet can be. Doing a little research on what is considered a good diet, takes time and effort, but is well worth it. It can get confusing. There is a PBS special called '3 Steps to Incredible Health' that I think is one of the best presentations out there. See if it is coming up on PBS anytime soon. Or they may have a copy in the library.

Organic vegetables and fruits with every meal and nuts and seeds often. Reduce the meat, the dairy, grains and the sweets. That is a simple way of improving your diet to start.

I've had RLS (restless leg syndrome)in the evenings most of my life... & I remember my Mom would move her legs so much while sitting at night. I was told people who had rheumatic fever as a child often got RLS later. I remember as a child wrapping my legs in warm towels as my legs 'hurt' so much & was told it was 'growing pains'(!) but as an adult I was diagnosed with RLS & put on L-dopa -a Parkinsons drug- & it has helped the RLS a lot! This constant feeling of the urge to move/jerk my legs is awful ... no cause for RLS or cure but thankfully some help!
