I don't have leg hair anymore. Age and American Indian heritage have it's advantages. But, when I was younger and did have to shave, I was given a shaver as a gift one Christmas. Frankly, I could shave six legs and three underarms in the time it took to shave two legs with that thing. They may be better today but not for me.

My DD10 wanted to start shaving her legs but I didn't want her using a regular razor, so I got her a Panasonic razor at Target. While her legs look good after shaving you can definitely feels stubble. So for her needs it's great, but I don't know if I would want to use it - except in an emergency.

I really like the Schick Intuition razors for women. They are a standard (wet) razor, but they have this big thing surrounding the razor head that looks like a bar of soap. The soap thing is actually a type of shaving cream, so you don't need to use anything else. Just wet your legs, wet the razor and you're good to go!

The Intuition has saved me so much time that I used to be lathering up my legs - and then re-lathering when water drips down onto areas of my leg I haven't shaved yet. I swear I'm shaving my legs 40% faster now.

Epi-lady made a contraption that "removed" the hair- I still shudder to think of the one pass I made on my legs with that hand-held torture device.

I have tried DH beard trimmer and several of my dog grooming clippers with different blades- none of them get a close smooth shave. I just use a disposable and bar of soap.

Yeah, that Epilady was a horrible invention, wasn't it? I got one for Christmas the year they came out, and I was in tears before finishing one leg. I've had a couple of electrics from Norelco and Braun, and they took a lot longer and stubble seemed to reappear within a few hours. Waste of money, IMO. (DH has hated every electric shaver we've gotten him too. If we won the lottery we'd have his face laser-depilated.)

I've always wondered though... do other women really hack themselves up with regular razors that much? I've been shaving on alternate days for the past year since I've been at the pool so much. I use plain old Dr. Bronner's soap or even my shampoo and either a Gillette cartridge type or disposable razor, and it has been at least 25 years since I've so much as nicked myself. I'm not a particularly slow/careful shaver, either; I'm more about getting it out of the way fast and it takes me maybe a minute to a minute and a half per leg. When I first started shaving my stepmother started me out on those "Flicker" razors (recently discontinued, bummer, although you can still find them here and there) that had the ultra-fine wires wrapped around the blades to prevent nicks - those were pretty cool for a 12yo just getting the hang of the whole thing.

Yeah, I am one of those other women who hack themselves up with regular razors, but they do give a much closer shave. I have been using the Remington 3500 electric rechargeable for a few years but am having problems with it not holding its charge long enough to get the whole job done.

Tried wax ONCE. Actually just one strip. That was all I could manage.

I use a Schick Intuition razor for my underarms. Since my leg hair in naturally sparse, blond and silky, I don't shave all that frequently even in the summer. In fact, I'm pretty prone to not shave at all unless I plan to wear shorts, dresses or a swimsuit. My husband has yet to turn me down because my legs are hairy. ;-)

Mari, like you I hadn't cut myself shaving in years and years. Until last weekend. I managed to shave the top off a small mole on my thigh. You'd have thought I'd opened a vein. Before I got the bleeding stopped, the bathroom looked like the scene of a particularly grizzly murder. Ugh!

Those Epilady things were just evil.
