low end Lennox both furnace and AC with probably an oversized furnace that does not qualify for fed govt tax credit. I think overall it is poor equipment selection.

I agree that they are probably oversizing the furnace, which can lead to other issues. I think that model comes in a 90k size, but I'm not certain - only a load calculation will tell for sure what size equipment is needed. The A/C is standard grade and uses the old R-22 refrigerant. I'm wondering if it is a significantly lower price for this reason - the dealer can get these units at a special cost since they are no longer allowed to be manufactured (or very soon to be the case).

yes, he mentioned that they only have a few R-22 left and that they are cheaper (but bad for ozone). If the furance is oversized, what would be another cheap alternative? Say in the Lennox line, since this is what he sells? Thanks again

The furnace sizing depends on your calculated heat loss in btu's, which is determined with a load calculation (known as Manual J). The furnace will have different sizes available for each model. The G40 is the bottom end furnace and the 13ACD is the bottom end a/c. I believe if registered, however, these parts will have a 10 year warranty - what does the contract state? You may be looking for a basic system, and that is fine, but it's important to know that Lennox does offer more premium "better" equipment.

an 80% eff furnace for Columbus, Ohio is a dinosaur and a mistake. Lennox does not leave you many options particularly in 95% eff furnaces that are non variable speed. In fact, I don't care for the way Lennox sizes their furnace product line. However, after looking at their website, you might consider their two stg non VS mdl, the G61(94% eff) in a 90 KBTU size which would be a much better alternative than the G40. Also, I would consider the XC13 AC condenser over the 13ACD condenser. I just hate to see you go bottom end fishing where price is more important than something decent for your home and family.

Ok, thanks to all for the invaluable input. What about this new quote? He has a brand new Lennox furnance that was the wrong size and was swapped out from someone else's house. Lennon 90% G61MP060c with R410 3 ton ac 13 acx-036 for $4950 or with the R-22 for $4650. Thoughts??? Thanks

post the complete mdl number of furnace. that will give you the size which is important.

on the AC condenser, the ACX13 is low end. the XC13 would be a much better choice. It has full coil protection. take a look at the pictures from provided link. The ACX13 is a POJ.

that is a much better furnace. still probably oversized. I would want the next size down-G61MPV36B-071. you will need a two stg stat. ask dealer for the output BTUs in both low stg and high stg. it should qualify for tax credit. see link.

Maybe the next size down is correct, maybe not. A load calc will tell for sure. It doesn't make sense to be oversized but it certainly doesn't make sense to be undersized either, especially on the heating side.
