I bought SquareTrade warranties for most of my appliances, (though not my gas range, which ironically had the most problems. But that's another story.) and only had to use it on the fridge, for a really minor repair (cost around $70). They paid quickly. They also give you the option to use your choice of repair companies, not just their contracted partners. That's an important distinction for me.

I bought a five year extended warranty for my LG stackable, washer and dryer. I always buy extended warranties and actually recently realize that I only purchased one warranty which ended up being covered only on the washer because I used it for the washer first. I had a water leak and when they came out to pull it out and see why it was leaking it was the hose and I was told that my warranty doesn’t cover the hose. I ended up having to pay $200 to have them replace the hose because I cannot pull the stackable washer and dryer away from the wall myself, when they came out to do the work, I also discovered that my dryer, which was a steam dryer had never been hooked up. However, I did purchase all the parts to hook up to steam dryer. I always wondered why there was never seem to be moisture in the dryer, but I just figured that was the way it was supposed to be, so long story short after contacting everybody under the sun because they sent me all over the place. I was told that since it’s been two years, they would not warrant the fact that the delivery and the installation team did not hook up my steam on my dryer and that I was responsible for that. So they have finally offered me $250 gift certificate. I have not been able to use the steam which I thought I was using for two years and now I have to try to find someone that can pull the washer and dryer out to hook up the water and the hose for the steam dryer, since my gift card only covers products purchased at Home Depot. I have to come up with the cash to hire someone to do the work. I have always bought my appliances at Home Depot and I have always bought warrantees at Home Depot but from this day forward I will never purchase any appliance from Home Depot. This was very disappointing.

Hi Dave, I was going to do that in any case, although I don't think I received warranty cards for the AC or coil. I was told to register online or call the 1-800 number for Bryant and give the model and serial numbers. What the CC offers is coverage for the extra year labor. That was my main interest as I doubt I'll still be in my current home 5-10 years from now. They said to get reimbursed I would need to submit the quote to their claims dept.

Dental insurance (actual insurance, with a reasonable or even no copay and/or an annual dollar amount limit for what they will pay for) isn't a bad thing to have. Going in for cleanings and having it covered, or needing a filling and it's covered, a crown and it's covered - with decent dental insurance you're not stuck with huge bills from the dentist that you have to put on a credit card or hope you're approved for the financing the office offers*. Definitely not the waste of money that an extended warranty on cars/appliances/electronics are. *To well qualified individuals. OP, I really don't think it's worth the money to get a warranty on your granite. Do you foresee many kitchen disasters post-installation? Even if you, for some reason, *do* see a lot of terrible things happening over/on your granite - you're in luck because granite is pretty durable. To pay the up front warranty charge, and in the event you want them to come out on a service call you'll be paying the $250 each time for that and probably will get charged extra if there are any supplies/products/whatever needed to do the repair itself...So many ways that a mere $299 warranty can have add on after add on, that's if the company doesn't go out of business and voids your warranty. :P They're likely just hoping you'll pay for the warranty and then never call them again. Has me wondering if they offer it because they bid on the low side, so any additional cash they can get from a customer will make up for that.
