No one has started yet and it's nearly noon?

OK, so today I'm working and I'm darned glad it's Friday. We lost power overnight on Wednesday night and the office computers are still not quite right.

Tonight I'm picking up The Monkey Princess and Bruvver and they are spending the night, and tomorrow I have another new bull calf which needs to become a steer, Dave and I will do that. The chicken coop needs to be cleaned too, I'll do that tomorrow when I take the kids home. I really need to do a bit of grocery shopping, we'll see how that goes.

Sunday? It's supposed to snow here. Yup, 60 today and snow tomorrow, that's Michigan. If not, I need to start raking the yard and somehow I just know Ashley is going to need help with that Power Point presentation she's been working on for school.

Happy Friday!

I am getting ready for a job interview. It's just a casual position, but it is really close to home and if I could just get my foot in the door.....

Have a 50th birthday party to go to tonight, working at the clinic tomorrow morning and then the rest of the weekend is mine.

Enjoy your 60 degree day, Annie. Our stretch of gorgeous weather has come to an end. It reached about 67 yesterday, but today we'll only get into the 40's, and it is cloudy. But....spring is just around the corner! YAY

Pea soup and ham sounds good, but I've been eating a lot of soup lately, as I have been under the weather since Wednesday of last week, which is why I did not post under TGIF last week. I'm much better now, probably at 95%, but I will still take it easy this week-end. It's gotten cool here (mid 60s) and I think we may have had rain last night, which might happen again this week-end, which would be wonderful. If I'm up to it, I will make tamales. I found corn husks at Sprout's, but they cost $5, which I found to be expensive. Last Saturday (when I should have stayed home), we went to what I thought was a Von's close to our house, but it is now a dollar (or 99 cent) store, and I guess corn husks are too expensive for them to carry! Before that we went to a grocery/liquor store that is even closer to our house, and its doors had been chained, as it is going through a change of ownership. The large recycling center in its parking lot was still open, however, but that was all that was going on. Kevin said that he had seen people who collect bottles and cans get vouchers for what they had collected and then used those vouchers to buy lottery tickets! I think they should have given them food stamps instead. There are too many dollar stores now, I think. The fruit and vegetable market that we used to go to is also now a dollar store. I will say that the dollar store that used to be a Von's is much cleaner than the Von's was, and I did not shop at the Von's because it was not very nice. It would be nice if a dollar store would reopen as a vegetable market. Maybe I'll make pizzas this week-end and put some of my Roma tomatoes on them. I've been mostly avoiding cheese while I was sick, as I think it makes congestion worse. I think I'll be fully recovered by tomorrow. I want to make something besides soup. I did make some very good cabbage soup while I was sick, and it was quick and easy and much better than I expected, although it did not have much of a cabbage flavor. I had Kimchee flavored soup yesterday. I turn the TV off whenever anything Superbowl comes on - it's just a lot of annoying noise as far as I'm concerned. Getting to a chore that I have put off too many years. Hope to finish it this next month. Finishing a tablecloth for a classmate of my son's. He found it partially done in his mother's house when he cleaned up after he death. It has proven to be a far more daunting task than I thought it would be, and my trepidation has led me to put it away too many times.

TGIF everyone. I've been too busy to get into the holiday spirit this year. Bagged putting up a tree, and didn't bother with the usual lights. Work is decorated and that's where I spend most of my time. We'll go to The Kid's for Christmas and she's all into being a Martha (Stewart), so I don't feel too deprived. It's a long weekend for me, with a rare Saturday off. It's been an odd week, including bunch of deadlines, contentious meetings and being the victim of a random act of kindness (detailed on the Conversations side). I started out my weekend Thursday night with a deep tissue massage... came home, had a glass of wine and fell soundly asleep in my chair. Ahhhhh....... Today was a trip to town for a doctor appt. during our first real snow. People got complacent, I think...wrecks and ambulances everywhere. So we grabbed some groceries and ran for home. I got my sis's package mailed.... main mission accomplished. Tomorrow I'll wrap the kids' presents, put together goodie baskets for work. Maybe bake something using the wonderful crystallized ginger one of my girls brought me from Australia. Sunday DH made an appointment for a hearing test. At noon. At Costco. On the Sunday before Christmas. argh. Clinking with a cup of eggnog laced w/ rum. Be healthy and travel safely everyone.

Toolbelt ( neat handle!!) I can't speak for the States but in Canada the homeless are almost always mentally ill or addicts. They resist any type of shelter provided to them. Even temporary shelter when it is bitter cold. They are paranoid and distrustful. Another large segment are runaway children that have left incredibly abusive homes. These kids are a bit easier to get to and persuade to take the help that is available. Many years ago the laws were changed so that no person could be held in any type of facility against their will. The hospitals for the mentally disabled were shut down with little or now support put in it's place. It's truly a tragic situation. Part of me says these people should be sheltered for their own well being and another part says they are entitles to live as they "choose" Anyhow, this is a real twist and turn for TGIF but perhaps a good one in that we all need to open our eyes to the unfortunate circumstances of others,

We are staying HOME this weekend - DS#1 has school meetings, DS#2 might get his braces off, and we have 'Silence of the Lambs' in glorious blu-ray for DH and DS#2, who haven't seen it yet. DH says he is too scared to watch it. He knows most of the movie from pop-culture, LOL. Sunday I'm going to the in-laws to make chicken soup for their Passover - hope they have freezer space.

Annie, I'm trying to come up with a joke at how adept you are at removing....male parts...it'll come to me, heh heh. Have fun with the grands.

Ahhhh .... finally it is close to 70 degrees on my beach! I'm in the garden and grass needs edging, especially under the meyers lemon tree that on the edge of the lawn. That baby is coming into bloom and it is COVERED! This year was a light year, so next year looks to be a bumper crop. The smell of those blooms is over the top!

Tomorrow is a big plant sale in Winter Park at Leu Gardens, a large botanical garden. I'm taking a friend who has never been there and we will have fun! Tomorrow should be near 80 degrees and each and every one of those little degrees will be welcomed! Finally!

At the cottage and it the weather is gorgeous! Lots of folk up because it is also Spring Break for the grade school kids.

Happy hour here at 3PM (wasn't expecting that so I'm scrambling on appy's). I have some baby backs that I'll do an Asian thing with, some mushrooms and cheddar that I can make stuffed mushrooms with and a bag of frozen shrimp, ketchup and horseradish for instant seafood sauce.

Then on to another cottage for a spaghetti fest.

Great day here so far - sunny and headed into the low 70's. Had a fun lunch with a girlfriend then a little walking and shopping. Now it is time to make appys for our first cul de sac party of the season - should be about 30 adults and a zillion kids (or at least it seems that way LOL). Tomorrow we are moving back intot he master BR - no it isn;t finished, but it will be livable. There is no choice in the move back in - we have houseguests that called this morning to say they are stopping by for a visit on their way south! LOL! Sunday DH is MC for a Haiti Relief Benefit here in town, he has done well with the comedy shows and is getting calls for all sorts of events now.

At my desk and counting the minutes until the weekend begins. I was at a party for hospital donors last night and didn;t get home until after 9 pm, having started the day at 7 a.m. This morning was tough!, and my feet hurt. It was a nice party though, in a donor's fabulous home.

The weather has been spectacular and is supposed to continue through most of the weekend. I plan to be outside as much as possible. The yard needs some major cleanup after the rough winter.

Most of the weekend is the usual -- clean, laundry, groceries, visit Mom. I also finally picked the tile for the bathroom reno so I will return the samples, too.

Have good one, all! Toasting you with my cup of diet pepsi. I am feeling bad for Annie's bull, soon to be a steer. He never even got to try them out.

Tomorrow I will be cooking a birthday dinner for my sister and I. My Dad has always taken us and husbands out, but he is "living longer than he planned to" (his words) and getting concerned about money, so he is buying a tenderloin and some prawns and I will cook dinner. My culinarily challenged sis is bringing salad and wine.
So Annie, you would be one of the very few people that I know who knows what bedeezers are?

Annie, have fun with that poor baby bull... I just checked the forecast and they have removed the word 'snow' from it, at least up here for us. The upcoming week is colder but not bad for this time of year.

I am having a "dinner party"....fixing dinner for a friend who is "batchin' it" and another couple. I asked what he wanted me to make....he said beef Wellington, mushroom risotto and asparagus and home made bread!...I think he was testing me!!!!
Anyhow I decided that wellington was a bit trite, so I am making another dish of my son's devising...with beef tenderloin steaks, pan fried and ultimatly flamed with a bit of brandy...he he he! Ought to be impressive for someone who has a wife who doesn't cook!!
So...Annie you having "fried oysters" for dinner?
Happy hour at 3? I'll be raising my glass!
AND...BTHLW and TCDR...I will be sending the Hairy Beast home on Sunday!!!!

Yes, tobyt, I know what bedeezers are, but I don't use them. I simply "band" the calves and they don't appear to care much one way or another when they are so small.

The band just cuts off the blood supply and the little things dry up, they don't even turn color or fall off or anything, they just dry up. It takes about 30 seconds or less and as I said, the calf doesn't appear to care at all. It seems better, somehow, than cutting...

So, Lindac, no "oysters" here!

Dried oysters? Could you reconstitute them with a bit of a soak in some broth....?
And I have never seen Silence of the Lambs....but I read the book and it scared me to death!! When ever I see a sphinx moth at the hummingbird feeders I remember that poor girl.

I am picking up my two grandbabies and they are staying the weekend with me. I have a baby shower tomorrow for my oldest granddaughter (who is just a baby herself, to me) Sigh. So, tonight Ineed to shower shop. And I hate to shop, except for kitchen stuff.
I think I will stop at McDonalds and let them play and play and play before I go home. (Of course they can eat too). But not me. I will wait until I can go home and eat something a little healthier...what kind of grandma am I? THEY can eat at Mickey Dees but I can't??? Sheesh.
Have a good weekedn everybody. Just 35 more minutes to go here at work...I swear it's one of the longest days so far.

Yesterday the weather was a perfect 70 degrees. After midnight we are supposed to get a rain/snow mix and the same for tomorro with a high of 34. When will this winter end!

Not sure what I will be doing this weekend. I am nursing a sore toe, had an ingrown toenail removed Wednesday. Ouch!

I think winter ends tomorrow. I haven't used the heat in weeks, and I'm having to open windows and have started using the ceiling fans. Plus it's warm enough that some of my basil seeds have started to sprout. I need to get the rest of my seeds into the ground/pots.

I would skip Silence of the Lambs as well, but Sunday we are going to El Capitan Theater in Hollywood to see Alice in Wonderland. The theater has actual costumes used in the movie on display in the lobby, and you can also go to a Mad Tea Party at the adjoining soda fountain. We got VIP tickets (not sure what that means) which were a bit pricey at $25 each, but I think that includes popcorn and drinks. This is our celebration for Kevin's birthday, which was Tuesday. His birthday is always on the same day of the week as mine, exactly three weeks later, except on Leap Years.

The L.A. Marathon is this week-end, and I hope it's not Sunday because that's when we're going to Hollywood, and streets will be closed off. I know they're going through Hollywood because it starts at Dodger Stadium and ends in Santa Monica, I think.

TGIF everyone!!

Beautiful day here today so a few of us met up at a great Tex-Mex place down on the river. Spent the evening out on the patio enjoying a couple of rita's and munchies....ended eating dinner too.

I'll be up early tomorrow to run a few errands and hit the grocery store before the ice, sleet, and then snow moves in. First day of spring in OK and we are suppose to get 6 -10 inches of snow or more depending. LOLOLOL! I'm not loving it!! Looks like I'll be home bound for most of the weekend. Guess I'll get the rest of my tax stuff ready....what fun!

We got more than 11 inches of snow today but expect it to taper off overnight. Our son, at the other end of the metro area got less than half of what we got.

We're spending our weekend along with our SIL, packing up Max's mother's household. There are a lot of sweet memories to break up the sadness of the job. Our son and DIL will help for the rest of the weekend.

It's been nice to have our SIL here for a few days and we have enjoyed nice meals out and at home with her. Our BIL is driving up on Sunday for several days.

It's a bittersweet weekend for us but I'm wishing sunshine and smiles for all of you.

TGIF everyone! Everyday is full and this weekend is more of the same. Spring has sprung here and it's nice to see the gardens and hills abloom and GREEN!
My weekend doesn't have anything as interesting as Annie's nor do I have Nana duties as the kids are out of the country right now. Wah! But we had lots of "quality time" for the last few weeks, so I'm ok for now. Especially as I transition into the big event season at work.

Tomorrow I must do grocery shopping, tax prep for Mom & Dad, finishing up some event planning work at home, and maybe doing some "editing" of stuff at home. The house is exploding and trips to the thrift shop and the trash can are in order.
The weekend kicked off with a spontaneous dinner tonight with friends at a local Persian restaurant. The Persian New Year has begun, but the restaurant was fairly quiet. Perhaps it's a celebration mostly in the home?
The chicken breasts that I had marinated this morning will need to be cooked and refrozen tomorrow for lunches to come, and we'll hopefully get to see friends tomorrow night.
More of the same on Sunday, but we'll probably go to see Dad and take Mom to dinner.

Linda- I hope it went well, they'd be lucky to have you!
Jessy- Tease the guys by serving fava beans and a good Chianti!
Sharon- have a blast!
Pam- I worked until 7:45 tonight. It's crazy time!
Sherry and Annie have fun with the kiddo's!
