OT- Do you have a toaster oven you love?

My just barely two year old Cuisinart toaster oven's broiler just died. Thought I would ask the experts if you love yours. Thanks!

Everyone seems to love their Brevilles, whenever this topic comes up.

I "like" my Krups FBC. Might even say I am "kindly disposed" toward it. "Love" is going a little far. If it broiled more powerfully, then by all means, show me the altar.

I don't love my new Black and Decker. It has too many dials to adjust. It also takes a little too long to toast things, although I'm getting used to that. I do like that it has a removable crumb tray.

I'm under the impression that toaster ovens in general take longer to "toast" than a regular toaster. I was surprised how long it took when I bought my first toaster oven earlier this summer. Asking around, I found it was normal. Monica

I've tried them, and since they always are ugly and take up too much counter space I've always gotten rid of them. It kills me because there are so many things I put in the microwave that would be so much better in an oven, but I just can't heat up the whole oven for small things. I did just check out the breville TO and have now added it to my amazon wishlist. Maybe I'll try it again in my new house. Maybe. Why can't someone design a pretty one that I wouldn't mind having out?!?!?! I cannot wait to pick out a new stand mixer in a pretty color to display on my counter. (DH broke my old black mixer a couple months ago making marshmallow fondant... I've decided to wait until we move to buy another.) 2littlefishies - A little off-topic... How are things going overall in your kitchen? I keep googling for topics about MY kitchen and it seems like one of your posts always pops up. LOL. Just a few minutes ago I came across your post about the kohler whitehaven sink and moen woodmere faucet. Did you end up selecting those? That combination is on the top of my list right now. :)

I was a given a convection oven for Christmas. Well, I had hinted for one! Phyllis, I believe mine is like yours, or very similar. I searched for a pic; didn't find one but found this copy of the booklet that came with it. The first thing I did was to bake a potato. Turned out like it was baked in a real (not microwave) oven, with that good skin. Next I broiled a hamburger and put onion slices and french fries in with it. Yummy! I haven't made toast yet, but I don't eat toast much except in the Summer for BLT. I do make cheese toast, which I just did and it turned out good. I have looked around on the web for helps, hints, etc, because the little book that came with it didn't tell me much. I had thought about starting a post for recipes, helps, etc for convection ovens, but just hadn't done it yet. So any ideas, appreciated. Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Oven

Toaster oven: Worth it if you have to store it between each use?

There are two different things, a toaster oven and a countertop oven. I have a toaster oven that lives in a drawer. We use it for toasting thick homemade bread and similar that won't work in a proper toaster. Sometimes, on a toast kick, it'll stay out for awhile, but there isn't a good place for it to live on the counter. Sometimes, it doesn't seem worth taking it out for toast so toast is skipped, but it's very light and taking it in and out isn't a problem. Just one more thing to do. It does have settings for oven-ish stuff, but I have proper ovens, and even for small things, I find it better to use a good oven that isn't going to throw much heat into the kitchen vs. a small meh one that spews waste heat. True countertop ovens have more insulation, bigger cavities, etc., though some aren't rated to toast any better than a built in oven. They're ovens that can toast, like any built in oven. They're fine ovens. Some people use them more than their built ins because they take less time to heat, etc. They're heavier than toaster sized ovens, but not impossible. It'll probably get more use if it's put on a counter. I don't know what the code is, but I think if you fireproofed the cavity (with tile, for instance), and had plenty of airspace margin for the heat to get out, you might even be able to use it in your niche. The question is whether that's really a good position for an oven. If you're used to undercounter ovens or range ovens, it might seem fine for you, even with the controls down by your knees. If you expect to use it daily on the counter, hauling it up and down could be a real drag. If you expect to use it once in awhile when you have company and need a tad more oven space, however, it would be fine. It would even be fine if it lived in the garage most of the time and you brought it in for the same purpose. Another possibility would be to use the microwave niche for cookbooks, pitchers or something else bulky and not unattractive, and put the toaster oven on the counter. :)

I'm stiiiilllll waiting for my old B&D toaster oven to die so I can try a Breville. I think it's holding on to spite me! It does everything I ask it to do, though--it's just not pretty anymore (who would be after 8-9 yrs of constant use), but it's hidden in the pantry (made space for it when we built the house), so I can't justify a new one on looks alone.

I've ALWAYS had a toaster oven, and I'm pretty sure they've always been B&D brand, but I did notice in the beginning of the current one that it takes a smidge longer to toast (broil) my toast than the previous one.

Everyone except me, that is. It's been suggested that perhaps my problem is I've got the large one and everyone else who loves theirs has the small. Could be.

Thanks to all of you I purchased the large size Breville oven when this subject was discussed some time ago. I love it! I love the convection oven which will perfectly bake two loaves of bread at the same time plus anything else that fits into it. Here is the secret to making perfect toast with it. Lay the piece/s of bread to be toasted on the black round pizza pan that is included with the oven. Keep the oven rack in the middle position. Adjust the toast setting to the number of slices. i.e. set at 2 for one slice of bread, set at 3 for additional slices. After a few trials you will figure out which toast setting to use. I seldom turn on my large oven any more as the Breville meets all my baking/toasting/browning needs for the two of us.

I also love-love-love my Breville Smart oven. If it fits in the oven- I use the Breville.
Use a coupon and buy from Bed Bath and Beyond. If mine broke today, I would replace it tomorrow with the same product!

I don't have a toaster oven but I do want one. The Breville is what I've decided on. Maybe one of these days when the kitchen remodel quits draining the bank account.

I'm lusting after a Breville large Smart oven,but can't justify buying it becasue my Cuisinart is going strong.

I just wanted to mention that you may want to try contacting Cuisinart. When my Cuisinart TO died about two years ago I called them and they sent me a new one - and the original was several years old. I do not remember if I had saved any of my paperwork or not.
