I also look for a toaster oven for toasting, rather than ovening. The Black and Deckers we've had did a decent job toasting, but the flimsy aspect got to me after awhile. The use of a big family will take its toll. So when we moved into our new house, I splurged on a Krups. Even though it also does the convection ovening I wasn't looking for, it had good reviews and looked like the Hummer of toaster ovens...black, boxy, and tough. At first it did a magnificent job toasting, top and bottom. Now, not so much and I'm not sure why. The elements seem to be working. Sometimes we get it all set, hit the 'start' button and it clears out and stops instead. This is where the ovening can now come in handy, because we sometimes resort to crisping things using that feature instead of toasting! Yep, Gary...Another oven problem! I do realize that the operator is the common denominator here. ;-) Plllog, I'm glad you're happy with the B&D. $25 is a great price! I could see replacing 'flimsy' every year or two for that price.

You can buy a Cuisinart TOB 195 at Costco for $99. The TOB 195 is considerably better than the model 30. The 195 usually sells for $140 and up elsewhere.

Thanks to all of you I purchased the large size Breville oven when this subject was discussed some time ago. I love it! I love the convection oven which will perfectly bake two loaves of bread at the same time plus anything else that fits into it. Here is the secret to making perfect toast with it. Lay the piece/s of bread to be toasted on the black round pizza pan that is included with the oven. Keep the oven rack in the middle position. Adjust the toast setting to the number of slices. i.e. set at 2 for one slice of bread, set at 3 for additional slices. After a few trials you will figure out which toast setting to use. I seldom turn on my large oven any more as the Breville meets all my baking/toasting/browning needs for the two of us.

If the Breville "toaster oven" is like the Wolf Countertop Oven with Convection, I would definitely not put it inside a cabinet, unless that cabinet was designed to withstand the heat. I purposely did not get the Wolf countertop oven for one of my "free" choices after buying SZ/W appliance for our kitchen. These are truly countertop ovens vs toaster. That said, in our pantry wall, I have a pull-out shelf for the coffeemaker, blender and two slice toaster. We do not use the toaster often. The pull-out stays out while toasting and until the toaster is no longer giving off any heat. As above poster commented, it's just adults in our household, and I would not do this with children or teenagers in the house. allison, we’re discussing a Brevllle Toaster Oven, not a single built in oven.
