Two models H4044. $2300 or so, H4084 $3000. Hope it toasts well enough for the occasional toasting I do; will hold onto my conventional toaster just in case. I plan to install a Miele under counter in my island, one wall oven, and an inexpensive microwave in the cabinet above the oven for the times I want to use micro when speed oven is in use. For my family I'm thinking/ hoping this combination works well - time will tell.

I use mine all the time. The main reason I like to use it is that it uses much less energy than the big oven. We all need to do our part, so I urge those of you who rarely use your toaster ovens or only use them for toasting to consider using the little oven more often. I happen to love mine, anyway -- it does heat very quickly and bakes and toasts great. No bending, either! And I can unplug it when I'm not using it -- can't do that with the big oven. I was shocked to see how much energy gets "leached" by plugged-in appliances even when they aren't turned on. I thought that was only true of the ones with clocks, lights, etc., but apparently not. So I turned off the clock feature on all the appliances that will let me do that (there are plenty of clocks already in view in my kitchen) and I unplug the toaster oven, blender, food processor, computer, phone and Ipod chargers, etc., when I'm not using them; only the coffee pot (because of the set-ahead timer) and the microwave (because the outlet is hard to reach, right behind it) stay plugged in on the counters. It only took a day to get used to it. You can also put all the appliances on power strips or "smart strips" and just flip the switch on when you want to use one. Thanks everyone. I've done some searching today and looking for the keyword "hot". Seems like several models have complaints of them being not well insulated and hotter than the user thought it should be. The B&D I had several years ago didn't get this hot. I don't think I'll keep it. Reminds me of a space heater :o Don't need THAT in Texas 9 months of the year. I wanted to cut down on the energy and heat. But I did find out that my local BB&B has the Breville in stock (not the Cuisinart but it could be shipped free) and I can use a 20% off coupon so that helps the bottom line. Anne2326, thanks for your feedback about your Cuisinart, especially good to hear that you find it easy to clean. I remember how difficult it was to clean my first and only toaster oven purchased donkey's years ago, back when these machines were very basic. elphaba, I hadn't heard the caution about not using Pyrex dishes in the Breville so thanks for the heads up. I did a little digging and apparently, that comes from Pyrex's website: "DO NOT use on or under a flame or other direct heat source, including on a stovetop, under a broiler, on a grill or in a toaster oven." So it's not just Breville, it's all toaster ovens. And it's not just Pyrex, the same caution is found at Anchor Hocking's website: "HEAT IN OVEN ONLY. Use your Anchor Hocking Bakeware in gas or electric ovens up to 425ðF or microwave ovens without browning element. Not for stovetop, broiler or toaster oven use. Do not use an alcohol or Canned Heat burner as a direct heat source" Anchor Hocking Care and Use I wonder if ancient Pyrex would be okay since it's the old formula. I have quite a bit of that. In fact, I don't think I own any dishes of the new formula. Please keep me posted about your toaster oven placement, elphaba. So far, you're the only person I know who's considering doing something like I want to do. I hadn't bothered to look at the Oster, rtwilliams, so thanks for your post.
