breville smart oven toaster oven
Comments (7)Dear sasm, I too have the Breville Smart oven, also replacing a VERY sturdy and long-lived Delonghi (15 years!!). It was recommended to me by the sales people at Sur La Table, who also own it and spoke from firsthand experience. If you go onto Amazon, almost all of the reviews are super positive. The oven does a ton of things, toasts very well (takes longer than a traditional toaster, but after this past weekend, where I was vacationing in a timeshare that only had a regular toaster -read only two pieces at a time-not so great for making toast points for appetizers, or feeding a hungry crowd pronto Tonto), I was even more grateful for my toaster oven. Another cool thing is that it has low temps(130), perfect for making yoghurt or keeping things warm, as well as dehydrating without cooking things. It has a convection feature that works great, plus the oven is big enough for a pizza (not the giganto size LOL) or, for me since I only have one oven, a pie. I bought mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond, using one of their coupons plus a sale price on top of that, so it was less than $300.00. Oh, it's easy to clean too-and has a pull out from the front crumb tray (which to me seems self-evident, but you'd be surprised how many make you remove it from the back!). I know you'll love it-Breville makes a great product. I even bought their Smart Grill based on how much I love my toaster oven, and it rocks too! (No, I don't work for Breville)...See MoreDo you use a toaster oven much?
Comments (22)I use mine all the time. The main reason I like to use it is that it uses much less energy than the big oven. We all need to do our part, so I urge those of you who rarely use your toaster ovens or only use them for toasting to consider using the little oven more often. I happen to love mine, anyway -- it does heat very quickly and bakes and toasts great. No bending, either! And I can unplug it when I'm not using it -- can't do that with the big oven. I was shocked to see how much energy gets "leached" by plugged-in appliances even when they aren't turned on. I thought that was only true of the ones with clocks, lights, etc., but apparently not. So I turned off the clock feature on all the appliances that will let me do that (there are plenty of clocks already in view in my kitchen) and I unplug the toaster oven, blender, food processor, computer, phone and Ipod chargers, etc., when I'm not using them; only the coffee pot (because of the set-ahead timer) and the microwave (because the outlet is hard to reach, right behind it) stay plugged in on the counters. It only took a day to get used to it. You can also put all the appliances on power strips or "smart strips" and just flip the switch on when you want to use one. The chargers are particularly bad "vampires" -- up to 95% waste if you leave them plugged in all the time. http://creativecitizen.com/solutions/36-Unplug-your-chargers-appliances-when-not-in-use http://www.terrapass.com/blog/posts/energy-tip-10-remove-wall-warts-and-slay-electricity-vampir http://www1.eere.energy.gov/consumer/tips/home_office.html...See MoreDo you love your toaster oven?
Comments (51)I'm seriously considering buying the red Breville TO until I read the exterior heats up. Just how hot do they get on the outside? I think they'd make cooking a bit more fun. Ironically, when we remodeled the kitchen and made it much larger, I lost my drive to cook. Thankfully my dh doesn't mind helping out. Isn't there another thread here about the Oster oven? It seems to have fantastic reviews but at a lower price. But I like the red since it matches my kitchen. :)...See MoreAre You Kidding Me? - Breville Toaster Oven
Comments (0)First of all I'm grateful the DH bought the warranty on this at $269.99 less than 2 years ago this shouldn't be. I was cooking a casserole dish today on bake function and all of a sudden I hear a beep and look and it say's "E05" on the display. In the manual it says remove power supply and call customer service. Yes this thing has been a great appliance but I can't seem to find out by searching online exactly what the problem is. Anyone else have a problem with this thing?...See MoreS L
