Cuisinart or Kitchen Aid Blender

I searched through the forums and I saw that this question was asked a few years back, but I wanted to get some more current opinions. I need to purchase a mixer, blender and food processor, and I would ideally like to have them all in one machine. The first name that comes to mind is of course Kitchen Aid for the mixer, but it does not have the blender and food processor attachment which means that I will need to buy those separately. I have been looking at the Cuisinart which seems to have all the same attachments as the Kitchen Aid (except the ice cream maker), and also has the blender and food processor attachments. I am drawn to this one because I think that having one machine to manage the different functions will ease clutter - and I hate clutter. I looked at the reviews on several sites, and they all seem okay. The Cuisinart also reminds me of the Kenwood that my mother owns which she was able to purchase several attachments for including the blender, she has had it for as long as I can remember (over 30 years) and it still works. With the quality of things made these days, I am certain that I will not get 30 years worth of use, but I would like to find something that I can get a decent amount of use from. The mixer and blender functions will be used approximately twice weekly for each function.

Any thoughts on the Cuisinart versus the Kitchen Aid. Will I be better off purchasing a separate blender and food processor?

Personally I have both a KA mixer and Cuisinart FP. Both are ancient but have performed flawlessly in the 25+ years I have owned them. The FP will not mix batters or doughs AFAIK because it has no way to aerate like the mixer does. And the KA won't chop like the FP does. You can buy KA attachments which give it a lot more flexibility, but they are expensive, and then you have a cupboard full of extra pieces.

I use the FP at least a couple of times a week, sometimes for long periods when I'm doing a lot of prep. I use the KA around once a week when I'm baking. I have the KA meat grinder and food strainer which I use less often. I like the meat grinder but the FP can also chop meat, just not as evenly. If you don't bake a lot, I would suggest getting the FP.

The Bosch Universal has numerous attachments available but they're even more expensive than the KA.
I just started with the base unit, bowl, kneading attachment and whisk. Later I bought the blender jar and food slicer/shredder attachments.
I can't say enough good things about it. THere's no motor/mixer over the bowl so you can easily add ingredients. It's fairly light so you can pick it up and put it on a shelf or down in the cupboard out of the way. It's a lot more powerful than the other makes as well .
If the price isn't an obstacle then it's well worth consideration.

I recently decided to upgrade our aging Cuisinart CFP 5a food processor with a larger and newer model. I looked at Kitchen Aid, Magi Mix, Robot Coupe and Cuisinart. I knew I wanted a larger capacity but did not like the multi bowl concept too much. All seemed pretty much similar then I found the Cuisinart 20 cup DLC XP and the matter settled itself. It now sits proudly next to the original '70's era machine. This beast can and will handle anything you throw at it. Like the original, we are hoping that we will get 30+ years of use from it. Recently I saw a new in-the-box CFP5A on a famous auction site. I nearly bid on it but could not justify 3 processors. For anyone looking at a large processor, you may want to consider the Cuisinart.

Like LindaC, I have a blender, a food processor and a hand held "boat motor" type blender. I never use that darned thing, I haven't found one single thing it's good for. My first one was a used one from GoodWill, Elery told me it didn't work well and he brought me his bigger and more expensive one. It doesn't work any better, IMO. The blender gets used a bit more, Ashley uses it for smoothies and for frozen strawberry margarita type drinks. I used it Friday night to puree the tomatillos, etc. when making the sauce for Ann T's stacked enchiladas. The food processor gets used the most, but still not a lot. I make hummus, I use it on the rare occasion I make pasta, I use it during canning season to shred cabbage for kraut. I use it to shop meat for sausage, I like to make my own instead of buying it. I don't use it for pastry dough because the dough always gets too hot and I have to put it into the freezer for half an hour, it's faster and easier to just use a hand held pastry blender and less mess to wash. I don't use it to chop vegetables because I mostly turn them into puree, the pieces are either too big or they're soup. If I'm going to grate just a little cheese, the microplane is handier, faster and again, easier to clean. So, do I like it? Oh yeah. Do I use it more than the blender. Probably. Would I use it to make smoothies? Probably not. I've never had a mini-food processor, so I can't tell you about that. Annie

It's still sitting out on the counter! I tested it out making crushed ice/koodaid "slurpees" and it works as well as can be expected. pllog -- I like your idea about using it for crafts to make recycled paper. My kids are always cutting up paper and stuff and this would be a fun way to use up the scraps. I think we even have an old mesh screen in a frame for drying! This would take homemade card to the next level (maybe). To all -- don't worry, I never throw away things that are functional (or even fixable). I am going to try making recycled paper with it, and if that's a fail I'll probably just donate it or offer it to my local community chat group. CL is usually a major hassle to sell anything :-/

The exploding NutriBullet issues were from people not reading the directions before use. They put hot substances in the container before blending, something you are not supposed to do with this device. The NutriBullet comes with an interchangeable blade that chops nuts and seeds perfectly. I doubt that there's anything easier to use for smoothies than the NutriBullet. It pulverizes everything beautifully and is so easy to wash. I like that it's small and light, as well.
