How about a breakfast casserole?

BREAKFAST CASSEROLES

Caramel French Toast

1 loaf French bread (thick sliced ~ can use egg bread too)
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons Karo Syrup
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
cinnamon
fresh fruit

Melt butter and brown sugar and Karo syrup over medium heat stirring. Bring to boil and then pour into 9 x13 casserole pan. Lay slices of bread over caramel mixture. Mix eggs and milk and vanilla and pour over bread. Sprinkle top with cinnamon and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate over night. Uncover and bake in 350 degree oven 45 minutes. Serve with fresh fruit and syrup (optional)

Breakfast Casserole

Spray 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
Line with biscuits (the pre-made refrigerated ones that you Âpop open)
Sprinkle with shredded Monterey Jack & Colby cheeses
On top of this, add whatever meat (cooked and drained) you prefer: Bacon, ham, sausage or sliced (thin) Kielbasa
Whip up 8-10 eggs and 1/4 cup milk in a bowl. Add a dash of salt, pepper, dry mustard and tabasco. Pour this over everything and bake in a 350 oven for about 20-25 minutes

Breakfast Casserole

(Prepare this one the night before and refrigerate until ready to bake)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Frozen hash brown patties
1 lb. good breakfast sausage (fried, crumbled and drained well)
1/2 med. onion grated
8 eggs
2/3 c. milk
1 c. grated cheddar cheese
Line a buttered 8 x 8-inch glass baking dish with frozen hash browns. Add sausage and onion. Beat eggs and milk together, pour over the sausage. Top with grated cheddar cheese. Cook for 40 - 45 min.
Cook's note: Sometimes I beat a couple of teaspoons of prepared mustard into the egg/milk mix. Or add chopped pepper (or a small can of drained green chilies) and/or green onions

This is a time when the Breakfast Casserole is called for! You could make several of them the day before, refrigerate overnight, and bake early the next morning before you expect the helpers. A link to the Farmer's Casserole is below.

If you bake, then some muffins and homemade cinnamon rolls would be welcome. If you don't bake, you could purchase some that you know are good. I would offer juice, milk, coffee and hot tea. Bagels and cream cheese spreads are good to have for those who don't eat eggs. I would have some fruit to eat out of hand, namely, apples and bananas.

I would have some pasta salad to go with the hamburgers, hot dogs, and chips for lunch. With some brownies and bar cookies for the afternoon snack, along with the pieces of fruit.

You will need lots of extra water and cups for the jacks and jills! Maybe some hand wipes too. Good luck!

An "eat on the go" breakfast that's still substantial? OK, I like the casseroles, but they don't seem like they could be eaten "on the go" so much.

I'd say toasted bagels, english muffins or homemade toast with eggs, cheese, ham, etc., made into a sandwich, muffins are good, as are breakfast burritos made with all those ingredients in the casserole but rolled up into flour tortillas.

Homemade "hot pockets" are good hot or cold, they are just bread dough (the store bought frozen stuff can be used), rolled out and made into something like a tart or calzone, filled with whatever you like. We've filled them with breakfast stuff like eggs, sausage and cheese, or rueben sandwich fillings or ham and cheese or pizza "stuff" like pepperoni, mozzarella and sauce.

I agree that bar cookies or brownies would be good for snacks or even for breakfast food if they're like me, a cookie and coffee is a nice "break" midmorning or before, LOL.

That italian beef or french dip in the crockpot is good for the afternoon meal, along with more of those cookies, or disposable cups of soup, also in the crockpot, it it isn't too messy. Meatball subs with the meatballs and sauce kept warm in the crockpot or an electric roaster might be good, or some kind of fingerfood like ribs or chicken wings.

I also think a pasta salad would be nice with the dogs and burgers, or maybe baked beans if you'd prefer something hot. I think if you have people who have worked all morning, they're going to be hungry when lunch time comes.

Where the heck is Trixietx, she's the one who takes meals out to the fields for the workers, she's probably got great ideas!

Breakfast burritos! Ham, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, cheese all wrapped up in a tortilla. Seasoned with a little bell pepper, onion. Make ahead and stack on a plate!
Peel some oranges as a side.

I think I'd have a crockpot full of soup or chili for later in the day. Served with a good artisan bread. Can be dinner or snack whatever they need/want!

Make a green salad to go with it if you want for your own dinner meal. It's nice to be out working and not have to get back into the house when you're exhausted and make something to eat!

I don't know what you're planning to serve with the burgers and dogs, but I'd keep it simple and utensil free (chips, pickles, veggie/fruit tray, etc.).

Lumberjacks/jills don't need gourmet, just sustanance....and lots of it! Be sure to have plenty of water bottles, soda, etc. of your choice around too. I'm always shocked at how much water I drink when working like that. Fun but thirsty work!

I was thinking breakfast burritos also. A few years ago we had a huge fire outside of town and I was asked to bring breakfast burritos for the firemen and I made this recipe that I think I got off of allrecipes or recipezaar. I made them the afternoon before and warmed them the next morning. You could microwave them the next morning and keep them warm in a roaster.

Breakfast burritos for the freezer

1/2 lb bacon
12 ounces of jimmy dean reduced-fat sausage
1 (8 ounce) bag of frozen home fries or hash browns or O'Brien potatoes
1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chilies, drained
3 dozen eggs (beaten well)
2 dozen 12-inch flour tortillas
2 cups of shredded cheese, any flavor
salsa (optional)
. 1Cook and drain the bacon and sausage.
2Crumble the bacon.
3Set aside.
4Leave a small amount of grease in the pan, and cook the potatoes.
5Be sure the potatoes are comepltely cooked, and properly browned--the
texture is funny if you don't.
6Combine eggs and green chilies.
7Add the eggs and green chilies to the potatoes, and stir.
8When eggs are almost done, add the meats, and continue to cook, until
eggs are no longer shiny.
9Add cheese, and remove from heat.
10Stir to combine.
11Spread out tortillas on counter.
12Spoon the suficient amount of egg mixture on top of tortilla, top
with salsa, and roll up, burrito style.
13Wrap each individually in waxed paper, then place as many as will fit
in a ziploc bag (I usually get 6-8 in a bag) Freeze.
14To reheat, leave in waxed paper and set on plate.
15Microwave 3 minutes.
16Let sit one minute, then unwrap and eat.

I'll third the Breakfast Burrito idea! We have them every year for breakfast on our girls canoe trip/camping weekend. Al of the veggies and cheese can be sliced/diced/grated ahead. All you need to do is brown the sausage, scramble the eggs, and let the guys build their own!

I'm no help....All I can think of is Monty Python's Lumberjack Song.... buttered scones and tea....

It's funny you should mention Monty Python's Lumberjack Song. Two weekends ago I was away on a girl's weekend and recieved a text from one of the lumberjacks, it was a pic of my husband wearing his bright orange safety helmet, holding the chainsaw and wearing his bathrobe, the message was "He's a Lumberjack and He's okay.."I guess his crew arrived early and DH got ready in a hurry, LoL. Of course he didn't go out to the land that way!
Anyway...thank you for all of the suggestions. I always enjoy everyone's input and ideas. I am currently thinking of making it a bit simpler as far as the a.m. goes. I think I might pick up some of those giant cinnamon rolls and giant muffin packs from Sam's club. Then I will probably make up maybe 2 Breakfast Pizzas. Lots of OJ and Coffee.
As for lunch, the forecast has changed to cloudy and 45, so the warmer food I am sure will be welcome. I am thinking the baked bean idea, warmed up in the crockpot, then we can still grill hot dogs and hamburgers, with individual bags of chips, and some fruit. Lots of Soda, water and probably some cheap beer, too.
In the afternoon, I will have jerky, trail mix, granola bars and more fruit...
How does that sound? I would love to provide them with lots of homemade goodies and such, but I am running out of time! I think they are pretty appreciative of any food, luckily they are a pretty easy to please crowd! Even more lucky, we have them as friends and family!
