DirectTV and International 'receivers' how to remove?
Comments (2)sorry for the late reply, hope this helps. if the dish is mounted thru the roof, you can leave the base plate and just remove the dish and mast. if you do unbolt the base, simply fill each hole with SILICONE or ROOF PATCH. do not use CAULK. if the dish is mounted to teh side of the home, caulk is fine to fill the holes. as far as the international box, just remove it. the cables for it and the dish should just be coiled up and tucked away under the eave. you never know, you may decide to put an antenna up to pick up the new DTV channels over the air soon and these cables could come in handy! if you are 100% sure you will never need them, then cut them off. i have never dealt with teh international box, but the dish itself has no voltage going to it when there are no receivers hooked up. even then it is car battery voltage, not deadly house voltage....See MoreDirectTV snowed out
Comments (23)No snow now, TV working fine today. Yesterday when I turned it on and saw the message that said it would take a few seconds I thought it really would be just a few seconds. If (when) it happens again, I'll just wait a while or unplug it. That works on my PC when it acts up, and I told a friend a few days after I got Direct that it is just like a big computer. I'm liking many of the features that Direct has, but some I don't like. The Guide and Menu sites are so dark and the text is so blurry I can't make some of it out. I'm still trying to figure out how to skip the commercials on recorded programs. DISH was very easy with both of those. Georgysmom, speaking of watching recorded programs, how can I watch a recorded program if the screen is busy with messages? As I mentioned, the dish is on the roof, and there is no way I could sweep the snow off. The installer used an extension ladder to get up there. Anyway, I'll get all these bumps worked out. I appreciate all your helps. Sue...See MoreDirect TV install problems (long)
Comments (12)It's good to understand your skill limitations, although its really not too complicated. Maybe your electrictian can easily do it for you or provide the necessary info so you can do it confidentally. Although grounding the system is technically required by the National Electric Code (NEC), which I think every state has adopted to some degree, I have never seen a new install that meets these requirements. Unfortunately, you would probably be "rolling the dice" again trying to get a DirecTV sub contractor to do it correctly. In the end, it is probably wiser just to make sure its done correctly yourself. Keep educating yourself and you'll save yourself a bunch of time, frustration, and money. I once heard the qoute, "Contractors make money by not doing things they are suppose too". Unfortunately, this is the case far too often as contractors are squeezed to improve efficiency....See MoreDirect TV/Dish Network comparisons?
Comments (17)DO NOT go to Satellite internet! DO NOT DO IT! If you have any other choice for internet service, stay with that!! I have satellite internet through Dish Network, "powered by WildBlue" - It is better than dial-up, which is my only other option. It is SOMEWHAT faster, but not very fast. The big thing is the usage cap - you can only use so much internet time in a rolling 30 day period (watch that word rolling!) If you watch any videos, have more than one computer/iPad/etc. - you will quickly go over your usage cap. They will then throttle you down so hard that dialup looks blazingly fast. Forget the idea of streaming TV shows, skype, etc. No way!! Just basic Windows updates, etc. can put a major strain on the usage cap if you have the cheapest package. We have the middle package and have to really watch our usage. I usually go to the library to download any songs, etc. from iTunes. If you do more than just a small amount of internet surfing and email - you will have to get a larger internet package $$$ and you will still have usage cap issues. We are able to deal with it, as it is our only option - but if I had any other choice, I would go for it. I have had Dish Network TV satellite for 15 years - never had any trouble. Some weather related issues, but that is to be expected....See MoreBethpen
