Bumble & Bumble styling creme. Pricey, but so worth it!

Suave shine spray- it does wonders to keep frizz under control and is really inexpensive. I was using one from the salon called Barex and it cost $28 a bottle, I came across the suave version at the drug store and tried it out. It worked just as good, if not better.

I think it very much depends on what kind of hair you have-- I have baby hair (lots of it but very fine and straight) so I wouldn't use anything heavy (like a cream) and have no need for frizz control, darn it.

I use a root lifter and spray my round hairbrush with sebastian spritz forte towards the end of the blow dry. I would never spray it ON my hair directly as it makes it very crunchy (it is like an extreme hold "fixative") but applying it on the brush and running it through my hair adds body and gives it a little movement and hold.

I swear by Kérastase. It's expensive but a very little goes a long way. The hair spray is super lightweight, smells great and holds without the stiffness.

You gotta know, there is no cure for Texas humidity. Those are the days I wear my hair natural and don't even bother with blow drying.

Keihl's Cream with silk groom, mixed with a few sprays of Deva(chan)'s Set-it-free spray, and then a few sprays of the set-it-free directly on my hair. Works ok on my curly hair. When it's really humid, I'll ad a few drops of Bio-Silk or Repair and Shine.

Thanks for the ideas. The Sunsilk anti-flat works wonders on lifting my roots, but I can't get my ends to actually *hold* a curl. If I go spray crazy, I can get the outside curls stay, but the inside goes limp once humidity touches it. I'm saving this thread so I can look back at the suggestions.

Maybe it is just my hair. It is medium length, but it feels like it is in an in-between time where it isn't short and isn't long. Gee, I don't know what I want.

OH OH OH I know! I finally found THE Mousse. Aquage Uplift Foam! Works great on my hair. It's very lightweight. I purposely tried to overload my hair the other day and it didn't get all sticky and funky. Now I will say even after I use the mousse I use Vavoom hairspray for more lift. I don't have a problem with it getting that crusty outer layer though like most hairsprays. My hair has medium thickness. If I don't use a jumbo curling iron on it in for some body it's very flat.

I love the Aveda products. Some of them can by pricey but you just use a bit each time. I used to use basic drug-store products, but when I started getting my hair cut at an Aveda salon I always loved how my hair felt & smelled when I left. My hair can be limp and not hold curl or style well. I've pretty much converted entirely to Aveda now. I love the 'Pure Abundance' line for volume, and there is a product called 'Style Prep Smoother' that is good for frizz. 'Phomollient' is good too, to add some volume. I love, love, love the smell of their 'Brilliant' hairspray. And as a bonus, they're all naturally derived and cruelty-free.

I dunno. Maybe I am just in one of those funks. As I was looking at my hair today I was wondering how purple streaks would look. :O/

Is there such a thing as a mid-length hair crisis? Hopefully a new product and more volume will perk me up.

paintchips, I feel your pain! My hair is sort of in-between right now. I went from a bob-type style to a very short cut, then decided to grow it out a little bit, but not a bob. This has all taken place in the past year or so. Now that it's getting warm here in New England and I'm thinking I want "easy" for summer, I'm going back to my hairdresser next week and having her cut it super-short again. I think my hair needs to be short, because it has absolutely no wave or body. It's just stick-straight, and especially (because of the humidity near the water?) where our summer cottage is, where we spend a lot of time, it will NOT do anything I want it to. I also think the "inbetween" style I have now is not stylish and at my age (44) my main goal with my hairstyle is to make me look cute, a little bit funky, and a little bit younger! NOT like a middle-aged mom. As far as products, I also love Bumble & Bumble products -- all of them -- and as is true for a lot of the more expensive products, you only need a small amount. I also have an Aveeda Pure Abundance shampoo that I love. I switch around a lot because I, too, am always looking for the miracle product. I do love the B&B hair spray because it holds without being too sticky or stiff.

For curls, Joiwhip mousse is da bomb. I read the reviews on naturally curly dot com a few years ago and have never looked back! DD (monster curls!) swears by it, too. It worked well for us in Florida, so I would think it is a good bet in TX as well...

I use Redken Pureology shampoo and conditioners. They are very good, smell great and are concentrated.

For root lift, Redken Guts.

For shine, Biosilk.

Hair Spray--Tresemme Brushout Hair Shaping Spray, which I can only find at Sally Beauty Supply. I hear that L'Oreal Elnet is now available in the United States (I think Target is supposed to carry it) and that it is a favorite of models who need to keep their hair style without too much stiffness. I have yet to try it.

Just switched to Tresemme mousse and shampoo, and it made the most of a really dreadful haircut. I'm currently sporting enough fringe for the entire Flock of Seagulls. But I can keep it under control with the Tresemme stuff.
