Brining a turkey

I've never done it but thought I'd try brining a turkey for Easter. the questions are--Can you use an aluminum kettle, that's all I have that is big enough? And seeing as how it is a strong salt water solution, does it need to be refridgerated all the time? My gut is saying yes, but the kettle will not fit in the fridge, so I thought maybe if I keep replacing water with ice cubes. I saw a brining bag in the store ,but don't want to pay $5.00 for it, plus it still would have to set in something in the fridge. Has anybody tried this? Thanks
