I'm not experienced with empty pods in iris, however, with daylily it usually means that there is a mismatch in ploidy. Sometimes a pod will set when a diploid pollen us used on a tetraploid flower or visa versa but the mismatched ploidy will abort any seeds that begin to form. Usually the whole pod falls off but they can sometimes develop as "airpods". Self pollination inhibitors in my experience either completely fail to set pod or the whole pod aborts much like a ploidy mismatch. I've never heard of anyone having a self pollination air pod though that doesn't mean it can't happen. Another factor is if there is not sufficient water to maintain the seed development. Tunnels in iris rhizomes, especially if it was fresh rhizome tissue, sounds like it could be iris borers. I don't have any experience with those but have heard they can devastate a garden. Hopefully someone on this forum knows how to deal with them. I've been advised to check all new rhizomes before planting them in the garden, cut out any suspected infestations, remove all dead foliage and soak the plant in either an insecticide or bleach water before planting.

Good job all of you. It is really cool to be able to do this for the first time. My son wrote out the line of code and taped it to my computer monitor. Use a try square or speed square or machinist's square and measure each side from all four possible positions. Each facet of the tapered post will then have a diamond on its face. Connect the dots and make the cut. (If you use a guide it will throw your cut off unless you compensate for the taper again by chamfering the edge to match the taper of the post.) OR: make a jig by ripping a length of clear 1" stock so that a piece that's clamped to the post is flat on top. Make a tapered flat-top box that's open on both ends and drop it over a post snuggly. Make the cut or the marks and move it to the next post and so on. Might not be worth the trouble for just four posts. Good luck, M

That will work. I usually prefer to copy to the hard drive and then transfer to a cd though. Just seems to be a more consistent result. Floppy drives and CD drives can have some trouble with their different speeds. But there's nothing wrong with giving it a try. Be sure to test it though, especially before you delete the files from the floppy.
