Hi,

I'm writing a paper about how people grieve the sudden death of a loved one, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to let me interview them and share their story with me. If so, just please let me know you're email address and I'll email you some questions. This will really help me out a lot, so anyone who feels comfortable talking about their grieving process please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your story, Crissy. I know it is so hard watching people we love leave us. Yes, it will probably get harder before it gets easier. I find that the longer the time goes by, the more I miss my mom and Chris. It's just natural. Remembering where they are now, makes it better, though. Life is good, but as we all know, there are many bumps in the road of life. If we live a good life, then we go to a much better place forever. As much as I miss my mom and Chris, if God would tell me that I could have them back for another 20 years, I would tell Him to keep them and I will see them later. I love them that much. I want them in a better place even though it would certainly be nice for me to have them back here. Try to live with the good memories and know that you will someday be with your dad again. Live on for him and make him proud. That is what he would want for you. Lu

Bless you and the others who care for her. Your love for her is shown by your commitment to her after such a long time. It must be extremely difficult to care for her as a living loved one, but have to accept that she might have no awareness of you. Just the same, I would continue talking to her as though she hears and understands you, because that can't be known with 100% certainty. So I think you're wise to not say anything or act in any way in her presence that alludes to the fact that she is 'not really there' or that you are mourning the loss of the woman you knew. But I would talk often to her other caregivers and cry or do whatever helps you all cope when NOT in her presence, because you certainly do need to acknowledge the huge void her 'absence' has caused in all your lives. It is so sad when a sudden tragedy like that changes someone's life so drastically, especially since she had just accomplished so much. I know it's not really a solution to your question of how you can cope, but I just wanted to assure you that your gift of love and commitment to her is uplifting, even though she cannot acknowledge you herself.

I am so sorry for your loss. It takes a long time to get over such a loss. Sometimes I feel you never really do. I had a dog, Pal, a Collie Shepard mix, that had to be put to sleep when we were both 10 years old. We grew up together. When my older siblings picked on me I could go to her, hug her and cry and she would comfort me like I was her pup. I still think of her with a mix of good memories and sadness at her passing. That was 52 years ago. I have had lots of dogs since then and miss them all. It took 2 years of grieving for the last one before I got my current dog. I swore I would never go through that pain again and then I saw a picture of Elvira and couldn't resist. I call her my "Soul Mutt" because she has been the closest to me since my first dog. She is 13 and not in good health, we take it one day at a time. I don't know what I am going to do when I lose her. I know that is a part of having a bond with a dog but it is hard. My Dad died in 1987 at the age of 60. The next day I found out I was pregnant with Amanda. My Mom died in my arms and I tried cpr til the ambulance came 13 years ago this August. I can honestly say, I thought I was going to lose my mind. The pain was so debilitating at times. I got on the computer and played solitaire and other mindless games. Mindless, mind numbing, so I didn't have to think. I had good days and bad days. I thought the guilt was going to eat me alive. I couldn't sleep for months because I DID relive that night repeatedly in my dreams. There's nothing, nothing anyone can say. Nothing takes the ache, the void away. Only time. And time only eases it so that when you do think of her the pain doesn't floor you. God bless you, God help you deal with your grief. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I lost my only living child suddenly, an 18-year old daughter, a little over two years ago. Her boyfriend died in the same accident. Daughter was thrown from the car, auto ignited, boyfriend never got out. Also lost a full-term pregnancy, a son, the year before daughter was born. Would love to answer questions, and would like to hear how you got graded. This is a wonderful site to visit. These people are wonderful. Thanks,

I would be very willing to help. I lost my mom in 1991 with no warning, then, in 2000 I lost my dad. Also, very quick, unexpected. I'm 47, a mom and single parent. She lived with us for 6 years so we had become very close. My loss can't compare to the loss of a child or a husband - you expect an 89 year old woman to have a limited time - but even though I thought I would be prepared, I found out that I wasn't. If I have anything to add to your study I would be happy to help.
