Anti-pers/deod allergy all of a sudden?

I've tried numerous anti-pers/deod brands over the years (differing percentages of aluminumn zirconium t... & aluminum c...) without problems other than noted below.

When I one used recently it felt like it wore or slid off after a while & left me sticky (Lady's Speed Stick Clean Glide). So I bought Arid XXDry (Regular Scent) on the recommendation of a coworker.

The first time I used the Arid it made my skin burn & itch. Now I have a red very dry & large patch above & below my armpits.

I also had the burning & itching when I tried Tussy (unknown scent) years ago.

I tried Lady's Choice Coconut-Lime today & it made me burn & itch. I've used this before without problems.

Perhaps I haven't given my skin long enough to recover before trying a new anti-pers/deod?

Perhaps I now have an allergy to the aluminum..., depending on the percentage of active ingredient used or no matter the percentage, and/or the scent in anti-pers/deod?

Has anyone had this happen? What did you do?

May I suggest that you forget about deodorants for a while until your skin clears up? Use Shower to Showere which is a baking powder/talc powder that is quite effective in reducing odor and stopping some sweat. You may be having trouble with anti-persperants in general.

That's what I was wondering; am I all of a sudden allergic to any/all deod/anti-pers when I've never had a problem with some before.

I guess it's always possible since some people have never had allergies to latex & then BAM they do, & the same with people not having allergies to pollen, food, insects... & then all of a sudden they do.

I have suffered with allergies all my life. Also have allergy enduced asthma. Finally went to an allergist and had the testing done. I have two prescription nasal sprays, Advair and I take one Allegra per day. (I use the Walmart brand Allegra, it's the exact same thing.) The allergist told me for the spring/summer months close the windows. All that pollen and everything else outside that I'm allergic to settles on the screens then gets in the house. She also said, get rid of your carpet and get rid of your dog. Obviously the dog stayed til we lost him at 16 1/2 years old. Ripped out all the carpet, best thing we ever did. I used a sinus rinse when I really need it, it works better than a neti pot. Only use distilled water and the salt packets provided. I'm kinda in the middle of a 'self test' for peanut butter. Have over some time developed severe skin itching.... and Dr thinks it is/was dry skin. I've moisturized myself really well (Cetaphil Cream, by the bucket full), continued itching but not really terrible. Then to replace a missed dinner, I had Crackers and peanut butter and the itching in the middle of the night was beyond belief..... so.... no more peanut butter, for a few weeks now resulting is much less itching.... then had a whipped dessert while dining out and I think it had peanuts in it and the night was itchy again. Gosh, DH leaves that jar on the counter and I am soooo tempted, but it is such relief to not be franticly itching now. I will get brave and test it one day..... not soon tho. I have never had a food allergy.... few pollen ones and not severe. Who knows, and I don't need or want another MD examining this falling apart body.

oh yes indeed and the pine pollen was so bad here this year every thing was yellow and when it rained it looked like yellow rain. The oak and cedar pollen is everywhere. Ours hit pretty bad already since we had everything in bloom and going strong while so many areas were still having snow and ice. I have the whole regimen of meds, the nasal spray, the various inhalers, the prescription pills, the neti pot with salt packets. It helps but it sure does not stop it. My voice left me back in December when I was so sick with what ever the heck that was that lasted for months and my voice is still not fully back and now with using all the inhalers and stuff it is getting worse again. I was going from Marge Simpson to Trace Adkins and never knew when it would squeek out or nothing come out. Now it is just very raspy and scratchy. I am waiting for my doctor to decide on which ENT she wants me to go to so I can find out what is going on in there and if my real voice will ever return. I think the inhalers have contributed a lot to the voice problem. I do wash out my mouth well after every use as it instructs but I think it must coat the vocal cords. During the time that I had stopped the inhalers before the pollen storm, my voice was getting a little better. Seems you have to choose which you want a voice or the relief the inhalers provide. And well breathing is pretty high on my list LOL.

Hello and thank you for sharing your experiences. Here I am having the same issue. Almost 5 months ago while I was on vocation with my family suddenly I felt a sudden weakness of both arms which it lasted for 30-40 seconds. Then in a month it happened again and again; randomly. I also have some difficulty breathing but non of them are related to each other. Shortness of breath happens mostly when I go to sleep and it goes away while the weakness of arms has no such a time or any other sign that helps me to figure out what and why i did go to the doctor and after many test and check ups no diagnosis. However my doctor said it could be from the stress Today I had two episodes in a row while I was working with a little boy ( I am an ABA provider) Lately though I have been thinking if it’s related to the heavy begs that I carry all day long since travel from Staten Island-Brooklyn-Manhattan and back ( using public transportation) Does anyone have any idea about what age am thinking about? Furthermore, today I read that Hypothyroidism must be one of the causes that might be connected to arm weakness

That is the way allergies work - they can appear out of the blue.

The solution is very simple: stop using commercial deodorant/anti-perspirants. I gave up deodorant years ago (this should be posted on the money saving forum) when a Thai friend of mine gave me a large alum crystal. It's a mineral salt and I've had the same $1.50 one for years. A health food store will sell you a more expensive one, but you can get the pure crystal much cheaper in an Asian market if you have one near you.

I found that I still perspired for a few weeks, though no odor, and then the perspiration disappeared. I also used it very successfully on a heat rash last summer. And guess what? All those TV commercials about no white residue? This is the original no residue deodorant. No perfumes, either, no chemicals at all.

You can look up the properties of alum on the web if you want to, but I recommend this highly. There's nothing allergenic in it and the cost savings are incredible because one will last for years before it's used up. I've even heard it's recommend for cancer patients undergoing radiation because of the lack of aluminum in it.

The problem with any kind of anti-persperant is that sometimes you need to sweat a little. It closes off the sweat glands so that you don't produce any. This isn't always good. Sometimes the body rebels. Unless you are in a very warm environment all the time, try getting by with just a deodorant. But get that skin cleared up first.

Well, I'd like the dry red patch to clear up first. But...

The other day thinking my problem might stem from the scented version I bought Equate version of fragrance-free Secret & Dove's fragrance-free for sensitive skin.

Then this morning when I couldn't stand feeling sticky anymore I tried the one from Dove, I think, & had no burning or itching.

I think I may have found the answer to my problem - stay away from the scented deod/anti-pers.

When I run out of these two, or if they do end up giving me problems before I run out, I'll look into the crystal.
