Sounds like you have a plan for your garden! Just wondering how far apart these planters are. you mention the 4x4 bed is to the north of the 4x8. If it isn't far enough away, you may have some of your larger plants in the 4x8 shade out the 4x4 area and get lower yields. You certainly can place vining crops near the edge of the beds and have them fall out into the lawn. They will use up a bit of lawn space - so ensure you don't need to mow there! Update.... Instead of percentages, I now use actual measurements. The scale I use is 4 boxes or 0.8" on my layouts = 24" in real life. So, a standard 24" deep x 24" wide cabinet would be: height = 0.8" and width = 0.8" A 36" wide cabinet would be: height = 0.8" and width = 1.2" (still 24" deep) Note that the toolbar shown above is for Microsoft 2003, not 2007.

Thanks Writersblock, I'll give it a try, but all my file names are just numbers, and only 4 digits long. Something has changed. I don't typically title my pics. On another thread Buehl suggested I open "Houzz Photo" option and drag the file into the box that appeared. It worked. I rarely use screen shots, (but I did successfully post one tonight using Buehl's method). I have always just posted my saved pics from my computer, now that I can't use photobucket. Macs don't have the ability to open a photobucket image into GW, like a PC does.

I was thinking was socal said. You mention wanting "land for the kids", but often what kids want is access to other kids. I'm in an older suburb with smaller lots (e.g., 65-80' wide on average) and bands of little kids are always out and about in each other's yards, and mine. I love that! The trade off with having smaller yards is that my kids grew up in a great school district where they walked or biked to school, town, pool, parks, etc. - part of their lifestyle rather than being driven everywhere. It's nice for the parents, too, to have that neighborly support system when something comes up and the kids need watching. You may feel differently, but I'd caution that you make sure the land you want is for you and your spouse. Hopefully your kids will feel the same way, but if they don't at least you and your wife will enjoy the land.
