Yes, I have fine, very curly, and frizzy hair. I have been wearing my hair straight for over a year now. Flat-iron and Chi Silk Infusion. I swear by the Silk Infusion. It's the first product that actually does not weigh my hair down. Using Chi, it takes me tops 20 minutes to blow my hair out and run a flat-iron through it. My hair is medium length.

July and August are tough months on the straight do. I have never-ever spent this much money on my hair but I really wanted to be happy this summer and not worry about my hair when I am in Atlantic City or visiting DIL at Bradely Beach.

The test will be how long it lasts since I run 2-3 miles 3-4x a week and wash my hair that often.

ACK- you're running in this weather? I walked to the bottom of the driveway to retrieve the newspaper and it felt like the air itself was trying to hold me back. It was thick. I hope you're running early.

Jerseygirl I have my fingers crossed for you that your treatment does what you hope it will. I've had keratin treatments twice now - once last summer and then late spring this year. It does make managing my hair somewhat *easier* but in my case is by NO means wash and go. I still have to do the whole blow dry flat iron routine, it just takes less time. On the most humid days, the kind where you can actually see mist hanging in the air, I still frizz somewhat. I workout 6 days/week and just the body heat will start my hair curling a bit. You may have better luck because of the type of hair you have - mine is very thick and heavy. Which process/brand did you use? Coppola or La Brasiliana?

I have very fine long hair that looks pretty straight, but the under layers get very wavy for some reason. In the Virginia humidity it gets really frizzy. I think long, straight, frizzy hair looks much, much worse than curly frizzy hair! One sort of expects to see some frizz with curl. Straight hair is supposed to be silky, smooth and swingy at all times!

Marie Cate, I'm with ya lady! But in my neighborhood you wouldn't believe the number of joggers, bikers, walkers, roller bladers that are out every single day. They actually seem to not only tolerate this crazy heat, but to like it! I wasn't born with the heat-tolerance gene.

It was 104 degrees here yesterday with humidity at 98%! Went out between 4:30 & 6:30 to do some yard work. I had to get a few more little things planted, the mulch comes today. I came in the house completely drenched, I mean soaked, in sweat, hair frizzing, make up streaking. Just lovely. Don't know how the joggers do it!

I have thought about it sooooo often! That and that Bio something treatment. I don't want to lose my curls though - just want no frizz.

ttodd it depends on your hair - I can still be curly if just scrunch and fluff after shampooing instead of blow drying and ironing. It's softer curls and waves but definitely curly.

Well, I just washed it this morning for the first time. My 72 hour waiting period was up. Yehhhhh! I can't believe someone sleeps with me with the way I look sometimes. Ha. That's true love.

It was so easy to blow dry and it is pretty straight. It took know time and I did not need the flat iron or hair product. I understand that it wears out and will have more wave to it as time goes on. My hair is curly from the roots so I suspect I will need a little help in a few week when the roots start growing.

A friend of mine is a hair stylist in Sewell, NJ. I went there because I knew she would do a great job and she did not let me down.

I run early in the morning before work. I try to get out there before the sun comes out. I'm sure in a couple of more weeks I will land up at the gym in the morning. I'm a morning person, so exercising when I get up kind of cleans my mind before other junk comes into it.

hi jerseygirl - would you mind sharing the name of the salon where you had your keratin treatment done? DD wants the keratin done before going back to school, and we are somewhat local to Sewell. I'd like her to have it done by someone who has done a tried and true on another before I lay out the $$. I think it is a bit pricey, no?

Stinky-try Silk Infusion by Chi for blowing your hair out. It won't weight you hair down and will help keep the frizz out. You only need a little bit.

Well it's over 100 degrees in NJ and my hair looks great. No frizz. When I wash it and let it dry nauturally, there is absolutely no frizz.

My problem is that I have too much hair, I can't do anything with it because of the sheer volume of it all. I found that flat ironing helped to deflate the amount of hair by straightening out the waves that were making it so heavy. But I still can't wear it down because of the waves at the root. The flat iron can't get that close to my scalp without burning me so the wave stays. It looks stupid to my eye to have the rest of my hair straight while the roots are still wavy, so everyone can tell I'm straigtening it. I wear it in a pony almost every day because I can't do anything with it. How I wish I had thin hair, then I wouldn't care if it was wavy or not. But the way it is now I am a mop top if I let it go natural. No product tames this wild beast as well as the flat iron. At least with that the pony tail doesn't look like a lion's mane. I'm intrigued by this treatment you have described but I'm still leary of spending that kind of money only to have the roots come in curly a week or two later and I'm back to hiding it in a pony tail.

Before I went grey and started coloring my hair I could blow my hair straight but not anymore, it's resistant to everything. I'd cut it all off if I thought that would help but I'm afriad that would make the problem worse and I'd end up looking like little orphan annie.

People with thin hair tell me they'd love to have my problem, well they can have it. This is a curse.

As far as over-the-counter products go I like a hair serum by Giovanni called Frizz Be Gone. I bought it online from drugstore.com but I just saw it recently at the new SPROUTS market. Serum works wonders on dry hair, all that other stuff I've tried made my hair feel dirty. This gives it a silky texture which is made even silkier with the flat iron. I think it costs around $8 or so.

I was in the salon today having a cut and asked if they do the treatments. The owner cuts me and I asked him about the keratin. They do a $75 treatment that lasts 4-6 weeks and a 3 mos. treatment for $325. Math doesn't quite add up with that and didn't get a very clear explanation from the owner, not a great feeling. He tells me that all but 2 of his stylists are certified. Jersey, did you have the 4-6 week or the 3 month treatment. I will definitely check out Taylors.

BTW, the receptionist at my salon had the 4-6 week treatment and told me it takes her half the time to dry her hair now. Best of all her hair looks AMAZING, shiny, straight but with body, bounce, etc. I am sold and going to put the $$ out since DD is taking 5 classes fall semster and will definitely have 9 a.m. classes which she hasn't previously had:').

flyingflower - the keratin sounds like it would be the answer to your prayers. My DD has uber thick hair that is pretty curly if she allows it to dry naturally.

If they have a treatment that lasts 4-6 weeks for $75 I'd be willing to give that try and see what happens. There are so many salons around here where the stylists don't seem to know how to do anything but cut hair very simply. I once asked the hairdresser if she would french braid it and she didn't know how. No matter how simple the style she was clueless. And this was a salon not supercuts. I keep running into incompetent stylists, I don't know how to find the really good ones who know how to do updos or be able to look at my hair and recommend a style that will work for it. One gal I went to a few times kept giving me the same haircut as my friend with straight hair, you know that Jennifer Aniston look. On me the layers were lost, waste of an expensive haircut. It's so frustrating not being able to find someone talented.

How do you find the Vidal Sassoons amidst all the dimwits who only know what they learned at beauty school? Referrals haven't worked for me.

Work In Progress- the Keratin Treatment should last 4-5 months. Mine costs $250. Some salons price your hair by volume because it takes a long time for them to flat iron the product into your hair since it's done by very very small sections.

My neighbor has much thicker hair than mine. She has had it done a few times. She told me hers lasts 4 months.

FlyingFlower: I hear your pain when it comes to hair stylists. I went to a 'Curly Salon" in North Jersey that was a Quidad Salon for a while. I never liked the way my hair looked and spent $105 for a cut. I was wearing my hair curly then. Out of desparation and not wanting to spend $105 for a cut I did not like, I decided to try a salon located in Haddonfield (South Jersey). It advertised in a local paper "curly hair specialists". When I walked in there, I almost walked out Very out-dated. Yes, I am a snob! I have never regretted stepping into that shop. My stylist teaches hair at a school. The best cut for me yet for $38.00. She talked me into going straight with blowing and ironing my hair straight when I was unemployed and looking for a job. I'm in sales and over 50. Needed a more sophisticated look. The competition gets tough with companies who prefer young people. My friends (2 who are stylists) tell me that my hair has never looked better.

I have never ever spent this much money for my hair but desparate times (July and August) deserve desparate measures. I will probably do this again at the end of October because we are going to St. Lucia in NOV.

My daughter has been doing the Brazilian treatment for almost 2 years. She goes every 4 months or so, and it costs ~$200 including the tip. She also buys the shampoo and conditioner at the salon, which is another $40. That lasts usually a couple of visits' worth though so it is not that expensive comparatively.

I have to say the keratin treatments have changed her life. My daughter inherited her dad's kinky hair and before keratin she struggled for years. Her best solution used to be using tons of product; she had given up trying to blow dry her long and relatively thick hair. Now with the treatments her hair is what we call hippie-chick in its' "natural" state. It still has a bit of wave to it but not bad at all. She doesn't blow dry but does use a Chi iron and with that combination her hair is absolutely straight. She *loves* it and wouldn't go back ever. I am very happy because it truly doesn't damage her hair which is a big factor, especially with a treatment you are starting as a teen.

As for a quick/cheap keratin treatment, that sounds a bit odd. It is pricey because of the time and work involved for the stylist. My daughter and I speculate that eventually there will be a home alternative, similar to hair coloring. You will be able to do it yourself or have someone professionally do it for you. Till then we gladly pay for having it done. My daughter actually commented to me that when she is an independent adult she will give up any other luxury to keep room in her budget for the hair treatments!

I agree about the price, and thought that the keratin treatment was more in the higher $$ ball park. Also, the price for the longer lasting keratin treatment didn't divide properly if you had 3 of the $75 treatments, lasting 3-4 mos., that would be $225. I asked why is the 4-6 wk treatment $75, a treatment that lasts 3x that should be $225, right? The girl at the desk starting back pedalling telling me she didn't know all of the particulars, referred me to the owner who cuts me for an explanation. He claims they are offering this $75 4-6 wk treatment, (and is probably being marketed to all applicable clients) to try for a reasonable price to see how well it works. In fact there was an erase board in the waiting room featuring the keratin treatment for $75 for 4-6 wks. The process was explained to take an approx. time total of 2 hrs, applying the treatment, flat ironing, etc. Also, the owner told me that you need to purchase a special shampoo to use after the treatment when washing your hair? Am I getting close?

Ann, I am definitely with your DD on the budgeting in for my hair care. No way I would "play" at home with color or anything for that matter, having to do with my hair. I know alot of women color their own hair, but to me, it is usually pretty obvious that they do.

jersey, if I may, which salon in Haddonfield? I have a collegue with verrrry curly hair who would like to find someone to cut/style it. Having to go into court for a living, she can't have it botched. Our firm is located in Haddonfield, so if you have someone who can cut curly hair, please share. Sometimes I wish I had her curls as they look fab alot of the time, but if she wants to wear her hair straight, it is a total ordeal. Personally, I like it curly, but you know how that goes. You always want what you don't have. lol

It's on Mechanic Street and is called Scissor Tales. I use Francine. She is only there 2 days a week. Tuesday and Friday. I started out with her getting a curly cut. I felt she did a great job with recommending the proper products for my curly hair type. When I decided to go straight, she hit it on the nose with cut and hair products. I have never received so many compliments on my cut. I have not gone back to curly yet.

If your friend decides on the Keratin Treatments, I would still use my friend Karen at Taylors in Sewell for that. I trust her more than anyone because I know she pays attention to detail. The thing about Keratin is that it does not take all your curl out. It takes the frizz and relaxes your curl. You just look like heck for 72 hours until you can wash your hair.
