Urgent help needed

We got floor water under our door today and the water managed to get into the expansion gap and under our interlocking vinyl floor. We didn't do the install ourselves, so I'm not sure how to go about dealing with this. Should I remove the baseboards and attempt to remove the planks? (Should I just beg the installer to come back and deal with it tomorrow?)

FYI, we do have a underlayment designed for vinyl underneath, but under that are aesbestos tiles.

Please offer any advice. My husband is loosing his mind about this.

I do not know what you mean by an interlocking vinyl floor. If it is an interlocking laminate construction with a fiberboard core of some kind, then you have not only the issue of water trapped beneath the flooring, but also the fact that the moisture is damaging the material.

The existence of an asbestos containing floor tile under the flooring is of no concern or consequence. It is not hazardous as found.

By all means let the installer know. Or, if you think you can disassemble and reassemble them yourselves, then have at it.

It won't hurt vinyl. But vinyl doesn't use an underlayment. Laminare does. And water destroys laminate. So you really need to know what type of floor you have. And you may need to call your insurance company if a lot of water came in and it's laminate. You certainly need to address the issue that allowed that to happen. Check the grading away from the house, the gutters, and the flashing. Water should not be coming into the house.

I think it is probably lack of water or temps. I am leaning towards temps, just because you said they were ventricosa and they are the sherman tanks of nepenthes. The brown spots look to originate from the veins which seems to tell me that the issue is from within and not an external attack. Ventricosa is technically a highland nepenthes. Although it will grow like a weed in most any condition. That tells me that humidity is probably not the issue since I grow mine if lower humidity. The next possibility is tempurature. You are in zone 9, how cold does it get there during the winter? Most neps, with the exception of a very few (2 that I know of khasiana and lamii [i think]) can withstand temps below 45. I had a ventrata burn at the growth points this fall when temps got below 50. It is doing fine now and started to branch and vine as a result, but I was nervous for a few weeks. (I haven't lost a nep yet.) Ventricosa if a very forgiving plant when it comes to water and light, but you should never let a nep dry out. Which judging by your experience, I am guessing is not the issue. That is what keeps leading me to tempurature. If that is the case, I think as long as you give them attention and get back to optimal conditions, they should bounce back. Leaves may die, but as long as new growth appears, then you should be ok. In it's weakened state try not to overwater. If leaves are dying, this is food for fungus now all it needs is a nice drink. If it is lack of water, then you should be fine too. Just make sure not to water log it for the same reasons as just mentioned. A little more light may help during the healing phase if the pitchers weren't already a reddish color before this problem. Otherwise, light is just right. Hope this helps...

Actually , I am a proven plant killer since the environ that I garden is very rough and marginal. BUT I do recommend going to The Natural gardener and taking some of their free classes. They have a wealth of experience and are very free with their knowledge. I do not know where you are in Austin because that will make a huge difference to your plant possibilities. I see guys in East Astin doing in-ground camellias which are impossible west of Austin. I also recommend you taking a garden tour to see what is possible here. There are some good ones coming up in the fall this year ( Inside Austin Garden tour. Austin Pond Society has a tour at a private garden this thursday Evening (RSVP). A garden designed by Peter Fluery and Scot Ogden. Very Tempting. The Pond Society is also doing a tour this coming weekend during the 105 weather, but it is a members only thing but you can join. OH, the sunday Westlake pond tour is open to the public. It is also a night tour besides a day tour too. What I am saying is that during this TOO hot to garden time , go look at what is thriving in the heat and make note of the species . They will be your friend. Learn what you need to do to your soil . Don't touch your garden as far as digging and planting till October. Spend your time going to Zilker, Lady Bird Johson Wildflower Center,, other gardens. Look around your neighborhood and go to independent nurseries. Buy a book about gardening in Austin and read. It is different. Believe me, it is different. Changing your expectations now will save you disappointing pain and money in the long run.

thanks bunch for all the great suggestions! So, here is the update. It was a great gsthering, with people milling around or parking themselves somewhere comfortably, talking, laughing ... As for the grazing table, it was mostly a success. I was seriously running behind and couldn’t do some of the nice finishing touches. The guests had started arriving and I ran to our room to change my shirt and put on a little make-up while my husband attended to the door. I wish I had a little but more time. And I also wish I had taken good pictures. One of the guests was complimenting me on how pretty the food looked and was taking some pictures. I later asked her if she’d mind sending them to me. So, here are some pictures, not very good, and taken while I was still adding some food to the table, but It is what it is. The most important thing is everyone had a great time and overall the house looked beautiful and welcoming. .

Actually, you can use an underlayment with click vinyl. It's a different type made by Lumber Liquidators for LVP, which is what we have. I'm not confused about the kind of floor. (I know it was unnecessary, but it made DH feel better about the asbestos underneath, and that was worth $150 to me. Those tiles make him a little crazy. He knows there is no reason. And I know he's being unreasonable. Emotions, by definition, are not rational.)

I know the water won't hurt the floor itself. I'm just wondering how urgent the problem is. I essentially have standing water. Good to know that the asbestos won't be hurt by the water (if I'm reading glensfc's post correctly.) I'm also not sure if i am in any danger of damaging the planks by uninstalling. Unfortunately, we got a bunch of damages planks and ended up with no extras. We got them on closeout, and there are no more to be had anywhere.
