I haven't yet clicked on caliloo's link, but I had it happen to me in a post I just submitted.

I also think it's very annoying.....and after one click on the word "baby" in amick's last post....will never EVER click on another of those links....so the advertisers will be paying for annoying me into avoiding their product!

I just clicked on the link and read about it. There is a place to "click to opt-out"....but guess what, it doesn't work. You just keep getting the same screen.

Personally, I hate this type of advertising and never go to any site that advertises that way. I also think that they have no right to embed it into our posts. It's simply a PIA and diminishes the users experience on any site that uses it.

I use the Firefox browser with Adblock, and I can (and do) block these totally annoying ads from showing up by blocking anything from images.intellitxt.com (BTW, both those programs are free).

NoScript blocks IntelliTXT. I'm not seeing any of it.

Dumb and annoying.

I've downloaded Firefox and tried using it before, but it's soooo slow I get frustrated with it, and like Safari better. Unfortunately, it doesn't have as many bells and whistles as Firefox, so I'm getting those annoying ads.

Yes, I see it, too, in fact the word *Safari in Sally's post has a link for AIG *travel *insurance?? I've seen this on other forums. It is sooo annoying. At home I use Firefox which is wonderful for me, but at work I can't download it.

Okay, I can see green words in the preview of my post so I am adding "*" in front to try to unlink.

Oh, geese, this is making me angry. It's like they're crashing our party.

They did this once before a couple of years ago when ivillage first took over. They discontinued it after a few weeks, I think they got a lot of complaints maybe. I'm disgusted that they've started doing it again. It's intrusive.

I clicked on Alexa's list and then clicked on the opt-out link and it didn't work for me. Interestingly, that entire paragraph with the opt out does not appear when I click on Alexa's link with Firefox. Hmmm.

This is definitely annoying, but then again we enjoy this free service so maybe we should put up with a little advertising. The other day I accidentally clicked on a GEICO ad. At the time I thought maybe we should click on the ads periodically. Even if we don't read them, they'll see the hit from iVillage. My idea of giving back!

There was a link there to click if you wanted to opt out. I clicked that and the green underlined words are now off my original post - only to be replaced by blue dotted/underlined words with a magnifying glass beside them (the word "baby" that lindac mentioned above.)

Don't know if there's a cause/effect by my having clicked their link or if our posts are just going to continue to morph on their own.

I use Firefox and I downloaded all the recommended Adblock add-ons (think you, Malna!) and relaunched Firefox. Poof! All the annoying greenies are history.

They've had them for a while, but they weren't in bold or double underlined. I just avoid them. I don't find it very hard to avoid since I don't tend to run my mouse over the whole post and now that they have made them so obvious it's even easier to avoid them. I think it might help in the long run to get rid of them if you complain, but... it is a free site so I just don't let it bother me. When you think of how big the whole Garden Web is and all the vast number of forums, you have to figure they're going to get in advertising most any way they can.

Well I'm sorry you're all experiencing this too but it does make me feel better that I'm not alone here.

Sally, sometimes Firefox slows down for me, and there is a fix: quit it, wait a couple of minutes, and open it again.
Maybe that will work for you.
My DH says the problem is that I tend to have lots of windows open. Anyway, the Firefox suggestion-- quit and re-open -- works. It's as if it gets clogged up and need to clear its arteries, LOL.

I don't like it either, and the county is supposed to have the best, up to date, handy dandy blocker of all kinds of stuff and I'm still getting it here.

It sucks, and it ticks me off. I'd never ever click on one of those links, and if I figure out what they are advertising I'm never going to buy it even if I like the product they're advertising!

I read of this in the Kitchen Table forum & did this, which worked:

How to get rid of the Intellitext (green underlines) links:
Click on the ? in the box that pops up when you hover over a link.
When you get the page loaded - there will be a tab for DISABLE - follow the instuctions.
Close out of everything - then reopen the KT - the links are then gone from the posts.

Be sure you close the browser, then open it again.

to add to what kathleen is saying...

those directions work but when you clean out your cookies you'll have to do it again unless you have a way to tell your computor to always save certain cookies. I use a program called CCleaner to keep my system clean and it has the added feature of saving certain cookies that I want, like the cookie from GW so that I don't have to sign in all the time. I added the following cookie to save... gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com and seems to be working, at least I have no more underlined words showing.

I clicked on the opt out link too and thought that nothing happened, but when I went away and came back all the annoying thingys were gone.

Seemed strange today when I responed to the post about the botulism in the green beans. Ball came up green and underlined. Odd that I did the Ball survey two days ago. Ball has my E-mail address. I didn't open the link though.
