frames and using them with a template basis

I am having a problem figuring out the frames. I have A frameset with a top a left and a main frame. I just want to be able to keep the top and left the same and change the content of the main in subsequent pages. If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

There are a lot of things that can be said about frames, so perhaps you can try to look at the link below first, and then come back when you have more questions.
Your question is quite "basic" (no offence :-)), so i reall y think this tutorial will help you out great (as it has helped many ppl out here).

I am currently re-doing my whole site, switching from Frames to Non-Frames.

Thank you circus peanut. The faucet will be centered. Are you saying it is a bad thing to have a cut out for the faucet or other things such as a soap dispenser at the seam? We had to get 2 slabs of our granite to have enough for both runs of perimeter cabinets and will use leftovers in other parts of the house. The granite is called maritaca green (DD who studied Spanish says that is parrot green) and is a fairly deep green with wavelike white swirls and occasional speckles of darker color. Some of the white swirls are very dramatic and by cutting a 4' piece from each slab we can have matching swirls on each side of the sink. I think that by cutting an arm for behind the sink from either of the slabs we would lose the ability to use the remnant piece of that slab for a bathroom. So I guess the fabricator was trying to help us get the most bang for the buck. I never thought to search "granite seam" but I'll do that now.

Loribee--That is a beautiful room. It looks like a magazine picture. I was at Home Goods today and saw similar lamps. So, speaking of Home Goods, I bought a black lamp there just to try for color and shape. If I would keep this lamp, I would have to buy a new shade because the shade that comes with it has a silver and black design on the inside and when the lamp is lit, doesn't provide much light in the room. Then I stopped at Goodwill and actually found a lamp I had looked at last week was still there!! I like this lamp (for $7.00!!) and will keep it regardless of whether or not I use it in the bedroom. It, of course, didn't come with a shade or even a harp, but I'd rather choose my own shade anyway. Please note, the shade I put on the lamp is just one from another lamp around the house and I know it is too small. I know many are encouraging me to go with a pop of color with the lamps, but there's still a part of me that likes the soft, relaxing cream and black in the room. Also, I think the pictures don't show the true relation of the size of the headboard to the size of the lamps. The two I just posted are both around 28" tall and seem pretty good to my IRL eye. Any opinions on the latest two choices???

I came across this great site that has frames with customized mattes available for very reasonable prices. Wish I would have found it before I spent $80 on 2 mattes at a big box framing store last month! I'd like to do a gallery wall similar to one shown on a blog I follow (Pure Style Home) and whose home was featured in one of my decorating magazines. She mentioned that her frames/mattes came from this site. You can customize the matte to any size and cutout that you need. I haven't tried it yet so I can't speak as to the quality, but a basic white frame and matte should be simple enough. Here is a link that might be useful: AmericanFrame

jesslake: You were correct - I was wrong about the diagonal seams. I got the paperwork back from them and saw they are actually vertical - sorry for my mistake! kathryn p: this is the response I got from them: ". My recommendation is to leave the seams as they are. They are currently placed strategically to avoid breakage of the countertops as your home and cabinets settle over time. All foundations and cabinets shift over time as the ground beneath settles, and having seams placed on either side of the dishwasher and sink help alleviate pressure on the stone during that process. If at any point this happens to your countertops, you simply call Stoneworks to come out and reset the seam, just like during the first installation! However, if we removed or moved the seams, during that same settling process the stone can crack and break, especially in those high traffic areas like dishwashers and sinks." So they kinda make it sound like if I don't use their seam recommendation, then they won't come back out to "reset the seam".

Ok Dale, i am curious to see how it works, and to see your site. Great discission to get rid of the frames-thingy. Unless frames are built quite professional i dont think any lay-out (with HTML) can beat normal tables. :-)

I have a website that uses frames simply because the site was for Avatars and gestures for the Excite Chat program. The reason for frames was because when people went to my website while they were in excite chat the frames kept all the people in the same room and still be able to go to the other webpages at my site. Before i switched to frames every time they went to a different page they would go to a new room also. I had people complaining about that until i switched to frames.
