Severed thumb tendon 3 weeks ago, getting concerned since surgery

Hi everyone, i could really use some assurance or input from others who have gone through this.

3 weeks ago i tried saving a glass cup from tipping over, long story short it cracked and sliced my inside thumb tendon in half on my right hand (dominate hand).

I had a 3 hour surgery the same day of the accident, wore the hospital splint for 1 week then went to my PT and they made me a nice custom one. Wore it for another week not moving my thumb at all making it two weeks straight being stationary. Then last week my PT modified the splint so i could bend it with my other hand 3 different ways, 25 times each every 2 hours.

Stitches have been removed and for most part the pain is gone (Taking no meds), just a nasty mess of cuts left to heal from the DR.

WELL today i went in to the Dr for a checkup and he was very surprised/concerned i can really only wiggle my finger a little. He said normally i should be able to bend it pretty good and be able to hold it to a position he moves it to.
Instead once you bend it, i cant really hold it and it slowly bends back up.

He needs me to get a MRI to see how the tendon is healing and if the surgery was successful. He said it could just still be swollen and excessive scar tissue causing the lack of movement...but his face seemed really concerned.

This is really scaring me, im struggling major not having my hand and now with the possibility of going back into surgery scares me.

Guess im looking for some other people who have been in my shoes and I share there experience in recovery time and thumb movement. Worst part is the surgeon is a specialist and doesnt accept my blue cross blue shield insurance so id hate to pay for surgery twice.

Thanks for the input!
