ordering wood floors from internet

Help, need advice or some personal experiences. I have shopped for months looking for wood flooring and finally have decided on Mannington Heritage hand scraped. I decided to check the internet and have found what I think a good price 8.39 sq ft. Went to my local capet store and told him my price and of course he said that was what he has to pay for it. Also tried to talk me out of ordering from internet and explaining all these nightmares he has heard from other people who want him to fix the problem. I had already talked to a contractor about doing the work and I think I trust him. Anyway, I am fixing to replace all my floors with tile, carpet and wood hopefully. I am just so torn right now as what to do about the wood. I am thinking I can use the local dealer to install carpet and tile and then order my wood from internet source. It is going to be expensive because I need at least 800'. Am I asking for problems, would I be safe to go with local dealer. I just can't justify though paying him 14.99 for the wood. Help if you have had any problems with wood floors and especially this one. I know nothing about his contractors until they show up at my house.

I've had great experiences buying flooring on the internet but then I always research e-tailers before buying from them. You should read their return policy very carefully to be sure you'll be able to return any damaged boxes/pieces. Then I suggest you search for ratings (e.g. epinions, this forum, etc.) about the company and review any complaints before making a decision.

I've had good experiences with both fastfloors.com and builddirect.com, even though I did have to file a claim for some broken tile with fastfloors once.

We just had a terrible experience. We bought bamboo floor from Builddirect.com and it came in not looking anything at all like the pictures and was 3 entirely different colors and finishes although the boxes say the same thing. The company did not step up and do anything at all for us. I was very disappointed and will never buy anything substantial from the web again.

I checked Ebay for beeches. Couldn't find anything locally for under $100, and they were nice trees, just out of my price range. Found one seller of beeches, 2 for $17.98, free shipping on 3-4ft sprouts. I am taking the chance, ordered from him this week. I also just wanted one or two, for trying to add variety to my tree collection. Always have heard good things about beeches, how they are useful in the woods for wildlife. Price was good for experimenting. You might try collecting some local Oak acorns, grow your own. I have a couple I just planted in pots in the garden dirt, that grew well. I am planting them around, giving some away. Trees from a local area, usually are suited to the climate well, show that by being successful trees.

Dear Reader, (Regarding previous Review) This customers complaint is absolutely false. This customer ordered flooring from Floormall.com and installed over 100 sq feet. After installing this amount she decided she did not like the width of the flooring she purchased. If we delivered flooring in terrible shape then 1. why did she accept the delivery? 2. why did she install it? If she would of read our Terms and Policies at http://www.floormall.com/disclaimer.php she would of seen that once you install your flooring, (especially 100 sqft of it), you can not return it. That is the industry standard. This customer has also filed 2 complaints with the Virginia Commonwealths Attorneys office. Of course they sided in Floormall.coms favor. If you would like to see the letter as proof to this customers false claims please email us directly at customerservice@floormall.com, subject Virginia Commonwealth letter. This customer also issued a chargeback with VISA/MASTERCARD and lost her dispute due to the fact that she had no basis for a claim to begin with. As a potential customer to any business you are very fortunate to do your do-diligence on the company you purchase from. Unfortunately as a business owner you can not do your do-diligence on your customer base. If we had the opportunity to sell to this customer again we would definately refer this customer to our competitors. Rembember this, just because someone post on a forum does not mean it is the truth until you hear both sides of the story. Internet vs local store for tile ordering

I think Daltile and Emser let you purchase material anywhere with the option of picking up at a local "pick up" center. Several of the tile manufacturers have distributors that are classified as pick up centers. You can actually buy somehwere else and the pick up can be locally. This could have changed, but we have used this method quite a bit in the past. Of course tile is very heavy, so if you may want to have your installer or contractor pick the tile up for you.

I've been an avid online shopper for ten years, and while sometimes things arrive damaged, a call to the vendor always results in a favorable outcome for me. Is you want to find out if your husband did it, look at the way the packing tape was sliced. Do the edges match the waviness of the scratch? It is best to firmly rule out user error before accusing the company of wrongdoing. Sometimes, though, stuff arrives damaged. I have sent things back if they are messed up, but the most important thing to do when you receive large items, like appliances or furniture, is schedule the delivery for a day when you can inspect everything in a leisurely, unhurried pace. Offer the deliver dudes some cookies or coffee so they don't get impatient, and look at every tiny thing. I learned that the HARD way with a desk, and by the time I noticed the damage, there was no recourse for me.

the problem won't be with the internet store. They simply order from a distributor and ship it to you. The problem is usually with color, different than expected, other non mfctg issues. If you don't have someone local to look at it your chances of getting some kind of remedy is limited.

The problem with BuildDirect is that they do not stock anything. They are at the complete mercy of the distributors they buy from, so they send you a sample and then BuildDirect orders from the distributor - and that is where it goes wrong as the distibutor can ship whatever grade of flooring they want.

I made the mistake of buying over 2000 sq feet of flooring from BuildDirect that is now delaminating and cracking. Independent certified wood flooring inspector wrote in his report that delamination and cracking were manufacturing responsibility. BuildDirect has offered nothing more than to sell me more wood at a discount. I would never ever buy from them again. They sold me defective product and now will not support their product.
