meningioma

My husband has a meningioma on his brain and will have to have surgery to remove it. Has anyone gone through this? He goes Monday for an extensive MRI so they can see exactly where it is. It has already affected his thought process and he is very concerned.

I had a meninginoma in the optical region of my brain
six years ago. I had a seven hour operation to remove it
at Mt. Sinai Hospital in N.Y.C.. They had to take it out
in pieces because it was so big.
The surgeon I had was the Chief of the Neurosurgery Department in the hospital. He was fantastic and I would
recommend him highly to anyone.

We saw the neurosurgeon on Friday and he is concerned because my husband is on Coumadin, aspirin, and plavix and will have to check with the heart doctor because he will have to be off these meds for 3 weeks or more. The chance of the blood clotting is great without these meds, so we're at a standstill right now.

Linda, I am sorry that your stepfather has this challenge. I do hope that he comes through with flying colors. Every year I go to our hospital's cancer survivors celebration and I have learned that cancer is no longer a death sentence by any means. Love to you and your family.

i started having these same issues in January this year. have had hypothyroidism for a few years but with levo always felt fine . symptoms lasted about 6 weeks and everything stopped one day in February and felt like myself again. Until June when they started back up and still going strong now. I’m 47 and my gyno tested and confirmed with blood test I’m peri. i have an iud so havent had a period in 4 years. Some days i have a huge headache and then others I have the Foggy head feeling that is so bad to describe. gyno would not talk about hrt without me seeing a neurologist which he says Im not having migraines and okd hrt. Odd thing is one day when my ear started to hurt took an Allegrad and it took away the head fog within an hour. Unfortunately that didn’t last. I did for about a month but still had headache. Now the Allegra isnt helping with anything. I’m waiting to see an ent because I feel like my sinuses are so full been an antibiotic for a few days and dI want seem to help either. I’m sure the ent will not have anything to say. Ive had a nurse practitioner mention AD which I’m not really for but will as a last ditch effort. Husband doesn’t really get it and that makes me feel more alone which just makes me cry more. going to ent and if nothing there going to try hrt and AD. scared to death of something serious to but nerologist didnt see any need for ct scans or mri. i also get these weird eye/head feeling on occasion when watching fast moving things or really shaky scenes when the camera is moving. I’m not dizzy and can’t explain how I feel other than I have to shut my eyes to focus. So scary!! I think if I could just come to grips it’s peri symptoms I’d be able to deal. Oh been very stressed at work for about two years but that is lessening as I finally have help. Was hoping with help and less stress I’d be better but no such luck. Wow, sounds like Sawyer is getting the whole kit and kaboodle! And it sounds like you have a LOT to do! Everything sounds good to me, except is she going to stop taking the bethanechol? With UMN bladder, she doesn't need it, as it tightens the urinary sphincter and that is already her problem. Also have you mastered the fine art of expressing her bladder? Sorry she has the more difficult problem to express, but I think you can handle anything that comes your way. The vet makes a good point about the rabies vaccine lasting longer than the legal 3 years. However, the duration of immunity is tested on young healthy animals who are challenged in a laboratory setting. Real life is often more complicated than what is replicated in the laboratory. Not all dogs are healthy when vaccinated, and we don't always know that they didn't mount an appropriate immune response to vaccination; the viral load in real life varies quite a bit from the lab; animals bit closer to the CNS are more likely to get the disease. My concern in your case is that you know Sawyer has a risk of being bitten, which is bad enough in and of itself, but rabid animals also tend to bite people. A couple of years ago, a properly vaccinated cat in NC savagely attacked several people in its family, and escaped through an open window. It was found later that day, and the family very reluctantly agreed to euthanize the cat and have it tested for rabies. It was positive. The parents said that if they had not found the cat, they would have never thought to seek treatment for rabies themselves or for their child who was also bit. They would have all died. And remember, this was a properly vaccinated cat. So while I am in total agreement that there are risks to vaccination which increase in some disease states, I am also very cautious about recommending against rabies vaccines because of the public health risk. Weird things happen, which is why the law (at least here in NC) is that all dogs and cats must be rabies vaccinated before 16 weeks, one year after that, and every 3 years thereafter. NC does not have a health exemption for rabies vaccines, but some states do. It would only protect you from a fine in case Sawyer was found wandering the streets and picked up by animal control. The pyrrosia14 is used for a variety of urinary tract problems including UTIs. I haven't heard of cord tablets; I'd be interested to learn what is in them. My Max (also a Lab) gets homemade food for his multitude of health issues- one kidney (the other one had to be removed due to an abscess), recurrent struvite bladder stones, mild heart disease, joint disease, food allergies. I can make 9 days worth of food in about 2 hours for him. He gets rice, chicken, eggs, mixed veggies, salmon oil, veggie oil, and a vitamin/mineral premix. His recipe came from a nutritionist because I was at a loss on what to feed him. My other 3 dogs are still on dog food (Solid Gold Wolf King) until I start making enough money to cook for them too. I do give them homemade food 1-2 times a week, plus they all get turkey necks or something raw 1-2 times a week as a treat. But I'd love to be able to cook for all of them. I like cooking, even for myself, though. How's Sawyer doing after her BIG day? Most pets get a little worse the first 1-2 days after their first couple of acupuncture-type treatments, but then get much better. I hope she is feeling better already.

Thanks so very much everyone - the thing is: Would Roho be suitable for size 3x 230-lb. Petite-height? i don't know for sure if what she has is called "pressure-sores" or more like "trauma" from having fallen. I also suspect that her brain-tumor (along with the subpar environment) has been magnifying her already-fiery personality, which is akin to a revved-up zillion-words-per-minute Trump. Secondly, this is a bit like a "watching the watchmen" situation (is that the term?) I.E. the doctor is one of those deadpan mannikin types. I also remember when someone else at the facility reported something to the ombudsman, she saw him emerging from the Admin.office with a strange look on his face, and was soon thereafter kicked out, and on her own, taken in by a friend. I recently heard she's in a hospital. Prior to landing at the facility where i met her, she had been involved in two car accidents. She used to be a top-level doctor, and is only middle-aged, but confined to a wheelchair. Both these women are brilliant, yet wound up near-penniless for similar reasons.

Hello--I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this right now. I had a left frontal craniotomy about six months ago and heard from all sorts of people who had neurosurgery. Lots of folks with meningiomas out there, apparently. A good friend of our family had a meningioma removed in his 60s, and was feeling better quite quickly. I'm 34 and otherwise healthy, and really anticipated that recovery would take much longer and be much more painful. I had no symptoms besides a seizure in the middle of the night. Before surgery, I bought a few cardigan/zippered tops so that I wouldn't have to pull things over my head. Also handy was a bath seat, because it's a bit tough to stand in the shower the first week or two. It's not fun or easy, but I'm sure you and your husband will fare well. Best of luck to both of you!

I also was only in the hospital for 3 days. Recovery
time was about 3 months. Eastsider's suggestion for
the cardigans was great. He really doesn't want to have
to pull anything over his head. I stayed with my mom for
the 3 months because I had stairs in my house and could not
go up or down them. Your husband will need help in the
shower for a while. Lots of luck!!!!!!
My prayers are with him. Please let me know how he does.

I was diagnosed with a 1 inch diameter tumor in left frontal lobe in 2002. I had a seizure and dislocated my shoulder and ended up in the emergency room. That's how it was discovered after an MRI.

It was a freightening experience. But tell your husband it's not that bad. They took good care of me in the hospital and the surgery went well. They were very professional. Tell your husband he will be ok. After the operation it was painful but I got better. the only mistake I made is i wish i took more time off before going back to work. i was trying to be brave and strong. I was still weak. I should have taken two months off. I had a jerk for a boss, it was a small company, and i think they wanted to get rid of me anyway. Tell him to take as much time off he can. Even after a couple of weeks of recovery he will still be weak or have symptoms like difficult concentrating or 'brain fog'. You're welcome to email me.

Last year I found out that I have a menigioma, they are checking it yearly to see if it grows. I already lost a breast, 2yrs. ago to cancer. Since I found out about my tumor, I feel like I'm walking around with a time bomb in my head. Weird things are starting to happen to me. I see people out the corner of my eyes, when I'm alone. I will think I see someone's reflection in the glass frame of my pictures on the wall. I have terrible headaches, and my eye sight is getting worse. I didn't imagine any of this, because I'd never even read about it until tonight. I decided that ignorance was bliss. My question to you is this, does everybody who has this kind of tumor need surgery?

Sharon, this isn't the best place to get an answer to your specific questions. It's a very slow moving forum that covers general topics, not specifics.

You are best off to talk to your doctors and see if there are support groups that can help.

The Doctors have not helped you and it would be time to look into alternative cancer cures and they are available but not through orthodox medicine

To help ease your worry seeing someone's reflection in mirrors and glass you are probably seeing a distorted view of yourself. I used to work in a rough area and one of the ways I would check for trouble was to look in shop windows where there was a reflection. I could look at the reflection and see what was happening behind me.

Alas, using reflections in homes is a also a method that thieves use to case a home. If mirrors and other glass/plastic surfaces are placed by the homeowner just so everything that goes on in a house can be view.
