I see...thanks for all the info! As far as i know, she's only on Medicare. I don't know how easy it is for her to get onto the others. Perhaps she got onto medicaid too, i'm not sure. If i get a chance to, i hope i remember to ask her.

P.S. I checked your link, and saw that she'd first have to have a wheelchair which had been covered by Medicare, to qualify for a reimbursed seat cushion. But she's using the facility's wheelchair. So the sum total for both might prove costly.

Bffs been a wheeler for YEARS. That cushion is very important to prevent "bed sores". I totally sympathize with the theft issue but I do not think it safe or wise to go cheap where this equipment is concerned. I wonder if there is a way to tether it or label it that would discourage it walking away. That is of course after raising holy hell with the manager of said facility.

While she is at the facility, it is their responsibility to provide the appropriate cushion (and all other durable medical equipment). Speak with the director of nursing or the administrator. If nothing happens, report this to the Department of Health and the Ombudsman.

I agree with cooper8828! Please have her call or your state and Ombudsman NOW! Sorry to hear this, it stinks! Hopefully she does not develop bed sores before something is done. Bed sores are much easier to prevent than heal. Best of luck to her.

In the meantime, you might try what we do. Go to a fabric store or someplace that sells foam and start with some high density foam in whatever configuration or size you think might help relieve some of that pressure. It cuts easily (electric knife best) and can be customized (by you) for her personal dimensions or needs. Maybe even a piece here, a piece there... Good luck. Glad she has you to help.

My mother has the opposite issues, she's very thin. When an injury kept her sitting more than usual at her care facility, the nurses asked for a Roho cushion for her chair. Her all-day-doing-puzzles-or-watching-tv chair. Since she is not wheelchair confined, her Kaiser Advantage insurance wouldn't pay for it. A little over $100 and worth every penny, its kept the fragile skin on her backside healthy.

I don't know that low cost and efficient may necessarily go hand in hand. Which cushion might best suit her needs would probably need to be determined by her primary care or professional staff...Roho Cushions although available several places including Amazon

Inflatable. Dr recommended. It comes with a moisture resistant cover that can be washed.

Would Roho be suitable for size 3x 230-lb. Petite-height? i don't know for sure if what she has is called "pressure-sores" or more like "trauma" from having fallen. I also suspect that her brain-tumor (along with the subpar environment) has been magnifying her already-fiery personality, which is akin to a revved-up zillion-words-per-minute Trump.

Secondly, this is a bit like a "watching the watchmen" situation (is that the term?) I.E. the doctor is one of those deadpan mannikin types. I also remember when someone else at the facility reported something to the ombudsman, she saw him emerging from the Admin.office with a strange look on his face, and was soon thereafter kicked out, and on her own, taken in by a friend. I recently heard she's in a hospital. Prior to landing at the facility where i met her, she had been involved in two car accidents. She used to be a top-level doctor, and is only middle-aged, but confined to a wheelchair. Both these women are brilliant, yet wound up near-penniless for similar reasons.

Do you have a medical supply store in your area like Binsons or Wright Fillipis? The people who work there are usually very knowledgable about the products available and what might be a suitable option for her. If they have a product in the store that’s too expensive, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find it cheaper on Amazon or another website store.

ETA; I think it’s very kind for you to do this for her (again). Stealing is bad enough but to steal from the most vulnerable of people is about a low as someone can go. It’s too bad that some sort of camera can’t be set up to catch who it is.

No i'm not near any such store, nor do i have a car. Don't get me wrong, i'm not doing anything, except researching others experiences with cushions. Also, and many of you may not like this, but she does to a great extent bring things upon herself, even while tilting at windmills with guns & smoke trying to force change. Trying to get anything positive accomplished in that place, is a near exercise in futility. It's a very depressing place. As for thefts, it's most probably not any one person.
