would you consider this low thyroid

Every year I get my thyroid tested and every year it's "in the normal range." Only ONE doctor ever said, yes it's in the normal range, but on the low end. It's like driving your car with 1/8th of a tank. You can still drive, but not as good as with a full tank of gas. Not sure about his analogy.

My lates thyroid test came back 1.4 (.4-4.0 begin the normal range).

I have every blasted symptom of low thyroid (wrinkled fingernails, cold hands/feet/but, thinned out eye brows, infertile, extra weight around the stomach...)

Should I get additional tests or insist on seeing an endocrinologists?

One other thing, my mom had thyroid cancer (mid 50's--she's fine now)

Numbers don't always mean the same thing for everyone. I think the wise thing would be to see a doctor to give you a good work up to eliminate thyroid or any other cause.

What might be considered "normal" for one person might too low or too high for another.

Snow, I would see an endocrinologist if I were you. While your numbers don't sound acutely low, you don't feel good and that's reason enough.

My own experience with primary care physicians is they don't know enough about the nuances of ideal hormone levels to treat or advise...maybe you don't need supplemental hormone but if it were me, I'd want to hear it from someone who treats those problems daily. Some people are more physically sensitive to fluctuations in those levels than others. Having some history of thyroid disease in your family does make you more inclined to experience an irregularity yourself...although please don't think I mean for you to be worrying about thyroid cancers. If your mother had one, you must know those are rare.

how funny that i just stumbled into this thread while searching my model # on yahoo for something unrelated. i'll give a quick update since i am here. i've now had my 2754GLS for two seasons and am VERY satisfied with it. it's a great tractor and i have no regrets. i think i did notice the next year at the dealer that the equivalent model had foot fwd/reverse control instead of fender mount - oh well for me but it doesn't bother me anymore. the tractor is treating me very well. i love the 54" cut - it clearly saves me time doing my 2 acres and is great. no obvious wear/damage to the deck or wheels,etc to date - i'm glad to have the extra reinforcement which may be helping. engine has plenty of power to support the deck size. the deck belt tension release lever (which i really like) does occasionally get released if i get too cute mowing into bushes which can hit and release it causing the mower to shut down. it probably left me puzzled the first two times of the 3 or so times it has happened. now i just know better if it were to happen again and its the first thing i would look at if not fuel level. if it were a real problem i could always reinforce it with a simple mechanism holding it in place better. one of my smartest investments on year two was to buy the bagging system (triple bag) which is great. the lack of turbo (ala Simplicity) has never been noticed. it actually clogs MUCH less. while the spinning red air flow indicator does an ok job of telling you when the bags are full once you figure it out, i've found the easiest way to tell is just occasionally poke the top of the far right bag (fills last) to feel if it is getting full. forget the plastic window which clouds quickly with time. if you overfill the bags you risk clogging the tube down near the deck but it's little trouble to clear it out due to the design. i did have the lower shoot begin to fail on mine in year one where a plastic seam began to come apart. it was replaced under warranty and i now have a bungee cord wrapping around the middle of the shoot and the right side handle next to the seat to give it move support just in case. have never had a problem since. bottom line - great purchase and no regrets. beautiful tractor and although i haven't owned a lowes model to compare, i recommend upgrading to a dealer only line with any quality improvements to protect your investment over time.

According to my doctor, low thyroid is easily diagnosed with a simple blood test - just ask your doctor. My carple tunnel symptoms have completely disappeared since being on thyroid medication. I also take 150 mgs. of soy isoflavones twice a day for menopause symptoms and am very happy with the results. I have lots of energy, am seldom moody or depressed, experience two or three minor, short-lived hot flashes per day and absolutely no night sweats. My only complaint is that I do not sleep well - wake up after about 3 hours of sound sleep and then sleep fitfully for the rest of the night - get up about 5:00 a.m. and sometimes earlier - know there are lots of women my age in this same predicament - but I've never been a good sleeper. I just refuse to become a "victim" of menopause - I (and not my hormones) have control of my moods, my weight, my menopause symptoms, my marriage, etc.. I am woman, hear me roar! :-) Cathleen

That's quite an attitude. We replaced wood Weather Shield casement windows with Sunrise casement windows. The old exterior window trim was painted white; the new window exteriors also are white. Inside, the old windows were finished in that mid-70s dark finish; the new windows are finished in the same color (yes, we had to pay extra for that). We went with Sunrise in part to avoid the diminished glass area of other brands or insert windows. In the eyes of someone who does not spend 50 hours a week looking at windows, they look just the same. What should I be seeing that's so obvious? "When a realtor mentions to a buyer that a home has either okna windows, soft lite, or sunrise, the prospective buyer may have never heard of them but rest assured, they will immediately check the internet and research the mystery." I think you have a very optimistic view of most home buyers. Maybe it's different in Dayton. Around here they recognize Andersen and Pella (at least in part because they're good-sized local employers); some will recognize Marvin (just upstate). Beyond that? Highly unlikely. Andersen and Pella are way oversold, as you can tell from the number of people buying those brands from big-box stores because they recognize the names -- even if a modicum of Internet research would reveal how deficient those windows are compared to readily-available alternatives. Like I said, maybe things in Ohio are totally different. But this certainly is what I'm seeing here as just a poor ol' slob who gets to pay for windows.

You can have a normal tsh and still have hypothyroidism. My numbers were always normal and it took me close to 10 different doctors to finally find one that checked my thyroid antibodies - they were off the charts! Even then I had a doctor say she couldn't treat me.. although I had almost every hypo symptom in the book.

I found a doctor at the site below that was willing to try lots of things to help me get better. Even so, it has taken a year and a half for me to finally start feeling good again. I imagine I have been hypothyroid for many years. To add to my problems I was also deficient in Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D.

Endos are not always the best choice either. Find a doctor in the list below, they will take you seriously!

Have your vitamin D levels done. I felt like you and found out that mine were dangerously low. I was prescribed 57,000 units of Vitamin A once a week for two months and I felt like a new person. I also have hypothyroidism. The optimum tsh is l to 3 now. The values have been set lower. Your's sounds like a very normal thyroid reading BUT you have to have a further test called the FREE 3 AND FREE 4 test to determine. Best to see an endicronologist. In the meantime, first go the Vitamin A. Good luck.

A few good things about thyroid cancer is that the most common type, comprising maybe 80% or more of the three different types, rarely metastasizes (I believe) and is fairly easy to treat. First with surgery, removing all but 1/8 of the thyroid (if possible), then injecting radioactive iodine.
My mother had this procedure done???sometime before I was born or when I was too young to remember, as both my sister and aunt were the ones to tell me -- get this -- about 15 years ago, when I was 40.
Also, my sister-in-law was around 50 (she is now 70) when she also had this procedure done.
Since it can be heredity, I would definitely see an endocrinologist.
