Laminate floor installation to or under appliances?

I understand the need for a laminate floor to expand/contract, thus the required gap along walls. Therefore, in the situation of a kitchen remodel, should installation of flooring under cabinets and, particularly, appliances be avoided? My assumption is that the weight of these on the floor will inhibit/prevent expansion/contraction. Or, can the floor "move" under this weight as long as nothing is secured permanently to the floor? It would be easier to move appliances like the refrigerator in and out if on the same plane as the rest of the kitchen floor. There would also be less chance of a visible termination to the floor if run under everything.
