Son 's loss felt DEEPLY

My son left this world March 25th,after 14 months decline in health...even tho disabled,he made it 23 1/2 yrs. w. no hospital stays.I miss him more than I could ever convey~ my life will never be the same~ how long before the raw pain lessens?

I am very sorry for your loss of your son. I too have a disabled son who is 24. I worry a lot as I get a little older about him and his health. I am very sorry for you, and your are not alone. I know it doesn't fix this, but I hope it helps a tiny bit to know that someone understands and cares.

thx. for the reply.Yes,I wondered how I'd keep being able to take care of him, as my health was not as good as it was when I was younger. Bren was never hospitalized for 23 1/2 yrs.,then 8 times in a yr., altho some due to dr. mistakes.
Yes, it is a whole new feeling...not having my son about..as I took care of him the whole time, except for when he was in the hospital.
Treasure every day, make memories to be enjoyed. God bless.

Asencion, I am truly so sorry to read this. It is such a huge loss to be without your boy. I hope that you feel the love and comfort from those still around you, filling you with their goodness and thoughts they bring to you all. We will not know why this side of the veil. It is not something that can easily be answered, nor understood. It is not something that we would choose to do, in leaving our loved ones. Especially it was too soon for him, just a babe still at 20. Your held your dreams for your boy, he wanted to be 21 and you were a proud Mom. He still lives on in all your hearts and will never leave you. I wanted to share this with you also. First... A verse from Helen Keller "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved We can never lose, For all that we love deeply Becomes a part of us." I always find this gives me some comfort, that we always will have a part of them with us. Our memories of them and being there expressing themselves in conversation with us. --A tribute to those whom we have loved. As I watched a Gulf Frittilary butterfly hatch and hold on to its shedded cocoon that it had just come out of, spread its wings, unbending them and gently for a time waving them to dry and get some strength going, after a time off it went to join the others eating on my purple 'Incense' passionflower vines. I had the thought of how we all will go through such a transformation one day, and be set free in our new life, where we can fly just as the butterfly has done. This one was special, it hung just above my entrance to my patio door, so I saw it each day, after I witnessed the Caterpillar climbing the wall and settling there on the patio sliding door. It stuck itself up in the hanging position and then quickly formed the chrysalis. I usually don't get to see the whole thing in action, but the thoughts quickly came to me of a rebirth and how I was touched by that. I sometimes have the thoughts that it is just us here, who are yet left behind, that have the pain, but for those who are now transformed they feel so invigorated, they are so happy with their life from then on. Dear Cindy, I am glad that you decided to return back to this site. I am also glad that you are part of a bible study group that is there for you to provide support. Karen, Marie and I are also part of a "group" that no one wanted to be part of but which eventually turned in to a life saver for the three of us. We all feel that God chose to draw us all together so that we would be there to help each other. As we mentioned before, Marie's son and my son have already passed, and Karen's son will pass in the very near future. Karen will probably share this with you as time goes along, but she also lost a grandson less than a month ago. The anger that you and Gary are experiencing now is completely normal. After receiving such a terrible diagnosis, any person (as well as their loved ones} have the need to let their feelings out. I am ashamed to admit this, but in the beginning I blamed God for making my son sick, and I questioned my faith at that point. I asked him why he would take my only son and make him suffer with this terrible disease. I felt that my prayers weren't being answered and that God was ignoring me. As time went on my feelings changed. I came to realize that God does not make people sick, and I know that he has been with me every step of the way. You wonder how you will get through this, and I tell you now that your faith in God will help you in this terrible time. As I mentioned before, our Michael was only 37 when he became ill. Like Gary, he was just starting out on his new life. He was only married 5 years by the time he passed, and his little boy was only 3. I won't go into the details right now, but his illness and death was not an easy one. He suffered terribly at the end. While not a day goes by that I do not think of my son, I have learned to go on because that is what Michael would have wanted. Please never think that you failed in some way in being a good mother. Your son has to pass through this angry stage, and sometimes the one that they lash out at are those they love the most. Give it some time and your son will come around because he needs his mom. I know how medical bills can pile up because our Michael was not able to work. My husband and I helped as best we could, but my daughter (my only other child) set up a GoFundMe page which she posted on Facebook. She was able to raise almost $27,000 that he was able to use for medical bills and home expenses. Perhaps someone in the family could do that for Gary. While you hear so many terrible things going on throughout our country today, you will find that there are still many good people out there with generous hearts who are willing to help someone in need. I don't want to ramble on too much right now. Please continue to visit this site anytime you feel the need, even if it's just to tell us how your day is going. Jan 21 2015 i lost dad to stage 4 small cell carcinoma on March 10,2015 I lost Mom to stage 4 B cell lymphoma! In my fathers case We were told, 6 to 8 weeks, he only lived 7 days from the date of his diagnosis! Mom wasn't given a diagnosis, she lived only had 6 weeks from the day my dad died! My mother was admitted to the hospital the day my dad passed. Thanks be to God she was able to be there,in a chair by his bedside the entire time. Sad part, she was in horrible pain and she never complained not once! They (Dr's) thought she had cellulitious of the calf, boy were they wrong! We never saw any of this coming! My mom and dad were my everything! I'm 35! I know to some that seems old enough right, wrong. I just became interested in the subjects that they were found of, I have so many questions, I had so much more to learn! My birthday is less then a month, no special phone call or card this time! My entire world shattered in 6 weeks! Ironic thing is, a dream I had 5 years ago! Myself, my 2 sisters, our mother and a husky man with no face were all at a funeral! At first I didn't know whos funeral we were at. I thought in a panic like feeling to myself ,is this dads funeral, looking around I saw no casket,I saw no pictures and I immediately called down. I thought is this Moms funeral, confused now I was looking around for a clue to whoms funeral i was attending. It was then I noticed my Mother limping in the archway with her cain in a blue dress! The colors around me were extremely vibrant, blue, white and purple flowers everywhere, there was an archway filled with vines that were just about in season to bloom. Noone else was attending this funeral but us four and the man i could identify. StillI didn't know who's funeral I was at. Suddenly I felt a terrifying feeling, I slowly looked behind me and my 3rd sister stood behind me. Her arms were draped in front of herself folded just so nicely, she had a sober, still and expressionless face. She was dressed in a classy, fitted black suit. The jacket looked as if she was the only person in the world it could have been tailored for. She was radiant, her hair was gold blonde more beautiful then I had ever seen in actuality! I felt a immediate sense she had been watching over us! As I sat there, my other older sister, the second youngest to myself, was overcome by despaire and overcome by grief. She just sat and shook violently, as if she were sick from her nerves inside and out.I looked down and saw her fancy stocking socks, black Rib knit cuff over the knee socks, and her white sweater.Why they left a impression I would understand at the time. My eldest sister stood talking to the man, I couldn't see his face. They stood at the front left had corner of the room, while mom walked toward them. I had that dream three times that night! Just 6 months after that dream, my sister died from cancer and was cremated.I never got to say good by to her, I was unable to get to her funeral! On January 21st 2015 it snowed a lot. On the 30th of Jan,the day we burried our dad, the temp was -2 degrees, my sister was shaking,sitting next to me she leaned over and I saw her knitted rib cuff socks! On March 10 th 2015 my mother passed, my sister was wearing the white sweater . On March 18th 2015 it was 72 degrees, my mother was burried in a blue dress! My eldest sister talked to my uncle that day in the front left hand corner of the room! My mother never quite made it all the way to them, just like in my dream! I guess I could say I had a dream, but it's one I can not awken from! My mom and dad are both gone! I know they are with the Lord and for that I am greatful! I am just lost without them!

I live the Virgin diet every day. It should be called the Virgin Lifestyle. This is a good diet for people with intolerances and who have a very difficult time losing weight, but it's great for everyone I think because it makes complete sense and is super natural. It's a ten-week plan to lose weight and discover intolerances. Take out 7 foods for three weeks then reintroduce them one at a time for the next seven weeks. Below I've explained the reasons for taking out these 7 foods. Gluten: contains lectins that bind to insulin, which creates insulin resistance and can make your blood sugars rise, making it hard to lose weight. Gluten is also an inflammatory. Soy: a phyto-estrogen, a plant source of the hormone estrogen. It's also heavily genetically modified. Dairy: like gluten, acts as an isulin resistant. It's nearly impossible to find hormone-free milk. So, hormones and rising blood sugar=acne and fat. There are studies out there that show countries with the highest dairy consumption have the highest levels of osteoporosis. On the contrary, countries that rely on calcium rich foods have a much lower rate of osteoporosis. I've read that the pasturization process of milk breaks down the protein that allows our bodies to absorb the calcium. I believe all this but there is still a huge debate about it. Corn: inflammatory and a high-glycemic food Peanuts: inflammatory and high in lectins. Eggs: inflammatory. If you have sensitivity to corn and soy, eggs might affect you because the chickens are probably fed corn and soy. I have a huge intolerance to fat so another reason eggs bother me. Sugar: we all know that's bad! And don't be fooled by agave necter...higher in fructose than high fructose corn syrup. I'm 5'8 and was 148 lbs. I'm now 135 and holding. In two weeks, my injured knee from subluxation over a year before wasn't hurting and felt stronger. My ankles reduced by 1/2 inch, something I thought was genetic but I guess was just excess fluid. I never really had bad acne, but what I did have cleared up and my blackheads reduced significantly. Also, my menstrual cycle went from seven days to three. My head felt clearer and I had more energy. I rarely have wind or bloated belly as well. The cellulite on my legs reduced by about 50%. I made a point to not exercise the first three weeks to see how effective just changing my diet was. ALL these changes happened without exercise, though of course after the three weeks I went back to yoga. I don't think everyone needs to cut out all of these foods. I also know some people won't have as many changes as I did. But I don't see how it will hurt to try, just to see what changes might happen to you! I think JJ knows what she's talking about. In regards to sticking to it, I cheat every once in a while but I usually feel so bad when I do that I find myself cheating a lot less. Good luck!

I'm so sorry for your loss. THough I've never lost a child, my dear friend lost her then 14 year old in a snowmobile accident 6 years ago. She still misses him painfully. Time for the wound to heal differs by the person.

My heart cries tears for you. I am so very sorry over the loss of your son. I wish I was there so I could just hug you and comfort you. I know the pain and anguish that you are feeling right now because I lost my only child "AJ" in January of 2002. He was only 15. Every person's journey of grief is different. Personally, the second year was worse for me because I finally had to face reality and that he was never going to come home again. The first year, I was in a fog of disbelief. My grief has softened but I still have bad days, more than good. I know that I will never get over losing him because when you lose a child the sorrow remains forever. I am praying for you.

I know how sad you must be feeling. We lost our oldest son at 36 and our oldest grandchild age 6 nearly two years ago. I agree that this second year has been awful, because the loss is so real, and we are keenly aware that we will never see them again. The pain is just terrible. Memories cause me to tear up once or more each day. We don't know which we miss more - our beautiful son who had everything to live for or that precious granddaughter who even at 6 was precocious, friendly, loving and just beautiful, the image of her daddy. The pain isn't nearly as sharp as it was at the beginning, but the void that remains is almost worse. I have talked to parents who lost children 10, 15, 30 years ago, and nothing ever makes the pain go away. You learn to live with it and deal with it, though. You are in my prayers.

Starchilde, you have my heartfelt sympathy. It has been 5 weeks today since my 30yr old son died from cancer and the pain feels unbearable, worse with each day. You have the added loss of a child who needed you in many more ways because of his disability and you must be at a loss after so many years of caring for him. My son was married and a father and hadn't lived at home for 10 years but he and his brother were my life and the emptiness is overwhelming. The loving people here have all opened their hearts to me and showed me that we do go on with our lives but we have to live with a new reality and make the best of it somehow. Right now it is hard to believe that it will ever get easier but this is a good place to come when you need help.
Right now it is just a case of waking up each day and getting through it. I wish you all the best, Elspeth

It's been 7 years for us without our daughter, Christin. Some days are much better than others. Some days it is like she just left us today. I think when a parent loses her/his child, the pain and emptiness remain in varying degrees throughout the rest of her/his life. We learn to live with the pain just as someone who is horribly disabled learns to live with their diability.
We each have our crosses to bear and we all have to find a way to survive them in the best way that we can. Different people get satisfaction and purpose for the rest of their lives in different ways. We just all have to find our own unique way to survive this.

Dear one,
I do have some understanding. I lost my only daughter about 10 months ago, after she was in the hospital for 4 months. My heart goes to you. I ache with you. Please remember...we, you, those of us who are traveling this road, are not alone. We are not alone. You are not alone. Diana was/is my daughter's name. What is your son's name? I love her as much today as ever and that is actually a comfort. I tell her how much I love her, and you may want to do the same. You asked about the raw pain. It is not as unrelenting as it was in the beginnng, but it does come for me, about once a week and it is pretty bad. I have told everyone, that I have given myself a year to do, be, think, speak and feel anything I want, anytime I want, without fear of recriminations or rebuke. If I want to renew my option after that...I will.

I want to thank everyone for the blessings in replies to my first post.I had not been able to get on, due to hard drive & computer probs.It's been 7 wks. since Brendan's angel date, & it has been hard.I have been going thru boxes to find pictures, to make a memorial video tribute for his memorial service on June 4th. I miss him so much that sometimes it hurts to breathe.His little sister who is 3 1/2 yrs. keeps saying he is coming back,& saving food for him, like saving a danish for brother.I have been in contact with a parent in the area who lost her son, & talking to someone who knows the feeling helps some.God bless all~ will write more individual replies later~

Time heals wounds. My son died 12-01-92, shortly after his high school graduation. I see beautiful sunsets on his birthday.. then realize the date, have good things happen to me on 12/01 and then realize the date,.... he's still with me.

He was taken suddenly, and with hate in my heart for the one that did it, but Erik is still with me.
