Not a real busy place because...

I think I know why this forum doesn't get used much. I know I'm way too busy with the grandbaby to use the computer!!

My grandbaby's 6 weeks old today. And I'm proud to say that I've only changed her diaper twice. I've pulled the "I'm the grandma" to my daughter and handed the baby back to her. The people at work can't believe that I do that. But remember, she lives with me. I don't want the handing off of the baby to grandma to deal with to be habit forming!

Life is good...

Just an update. This experience is turning out to be an extremely good overseas import so far. After almost month and half inside in the unheated garage potted up - including having to cover them up for a week due to -14C weather where some lost their first set of leaves to freezing "inside" - I've only lost 5 out of the ~ 105 delivered that failed to break dormancy (canes shriveled). The potting up is turning out to have been a smart move also with the long delayed plant due to weather because they been allowed to become soil based for 6 weeks instead of soaking. Of course I lost one car space in the garage to my DW slight annoyance - my car stays in, it is newer ... hahahaha. The Geschwinds have broke - except Geschwind's Schonste and it looks dead. The one I was zeroing on, Ariana, has been very vigorous (got planted outside yesterday). Planted it in the south bay plot just in case it does behave like a noisette and not like a Harisonii for hardiness. I dosed nearly half with mychrozial fungus (forgot the first half until I remember I bought the stuff in winter). Next week is the big plant with the Pickering's and the Skinner and Erskine roses special order coming this week. Yeah the pain and ecstasy starts again ... bring it on!!!! Of course November sucks as we do it all in reverse again.

The boxes were actually in the bedroom when she told me to remove them.they were stacked atop one another against a wall.She said "fire hazard" and gave me a week to unpack what was inside.I already had a few pieces of audio equipment in my living room and when i unpacked i added more..nowhere else to put it.I made certain that it's all organized well and polished of any soil and not obstructing pathways in or out of the room, 'nor blocking access to the window. i'm not a messy person but when she inspected(initially),she found the kind of stuff that most of us wait til we move out of a place to bother cleaning.I've lived here nearly 4 years now ,so i admittedly did have some legitimate cleaning to perform..It was when she voiced her dissatisfaction with my 'stuff' that i got angry as well as fearing eviction.She stood in my entryway yesterday,(the re-inspection) looking at my 'stuff' and says " it looks better..but..you DO know that the state inspectors are going to be in here on the 31st!?..)I simply nodded and very casually or matter of factly said "yeah"..it was a kodak moment. I want to thank everyone for their response.i feel 100% better now.I spoke to a few people(acquaintances) at the local Denny's this morning shortly after my initial post here and they told me how absurd my manager's notion sounded to them,but i still felt panicky..The responses here put an end to that panic..Thanks again to all of you who replied.btw,i never bothered to move my vinyl LP's..They're still in the bedroom.Classic 60's 70's and 80's fire hazards don'tcha know! To give a buyer's perspective, my husband and I have been trying to buy a house for weeks. It's an older house and needs some updates, we figured we might be in a higher insurance pool while we get the electrical up to modern code. We found insurance, but we can't get a loan. As soon as the banks saw that there were closing concessions to cover upgrades they demanded all notes and insisted that all fixes (including some really trivial ones) be completed weeks before closing. We've tried offering to put money in escrow and agreeing to do the fixes within 30 days - no dice. Our realtor is floored - lots of houses in this area have older systems and it's never been a problem. We're now exploring voiding the old contract and writing a new one without any concessions so we can start again. It's a collective action problem - the banks are terrified that they'll have a hard time selling a house if the deal sours. As soon as one bank says they won't underwrite a house with older (but still safe) systems, none of them will because they will run into the same problem with buyers if they try to sell. For the record, this house has systems that are normal for the area, but something has shifted for the banks in the last few months. We have been approved as buyers for more than this house costs, it's been appraised at a higher price than we're paying, but the banks are just gun-shy about any hint of trouble. We plan to do the updates as soon as we close, we just want it out of the way, but the banks won't consider an escrow and timeline. We want to buy, the seller wants to sell, the banks want to loan money to us, they just have become really picky about the houses.

Don't put anything off! DH and I used to let the kids trash their bedrooms and then we'd b*tch and moan but not really make them do much of anything. A week before school started, I deep cleaned their bedrooms. Threw out everything that was broken or really old. I organized everything---bought them some extra plastic stacking storage bins for the closets, etc. NOW---religiously---every night they are expected to clean up and put everything away. DH and I have been really good about not letting them say "oh, can't I do it tomorrow?" We don't care if they make a big mess when playing but we just remind them that whatever is taken out HAS to be put away that night before bed. I do the same for myself! I do not let dirty dishes sit in the sink overnight. Sometimes after dinner, I just don't feel like doing them, so I will stack them in the sink. But come 9-10 pm I make sure to thouroughly clean up the ktichen---load the dishwasher, run it, wipe down the stove, counters, etc. I just FEEL better when it's clean when I go to bed---and wake up, of course! The other thing I struggle with is laundry---namely, folding it and putting it away. I am TERRIBLE about leaving the clothes in the dryer and just getting them out of there as I need them. What I've done in the last few months is to sort/fold them on the couch while watching tv with DH. Then I have a distraction while I sort and fold, which helps immensely. I make different piles--ie, my closet, DH's t-shirt drawer, DD's room, SS's room, etc. We have all hardwood floors and I notice I really need to sweep every other day. Frankly, every day would probably be better. Stuff gets tracked in, the kids have sand in their shoes from the playground, etc. I try to sweep at least every other day. It is hard! I feel your pain. I am always amazed at how the house can from looking GREAT to a disaster zone in a matter of hours! It's frustrating!

I find myself looking at other toddlers and trying to decide how old they are and how much longer it will be until she's sitting up, holding her bottle, etc...

Not that I don't enjoy each stage, and am rushing anything at all. I just can't remember how old my kids were when they did things. Other than walk. I know that by the time they were a year old, they could run down the hallway. Not that slow hobble hobble, but they could run. No one could believe it. Now stopping was another problem...

Each stage is such a joy! Our baby is 19 months old now and growing up too fast to suit us. lol I am glad that she is able to tell us what she wants and doesn't want now. She can tell us if something is hurting her. I hope to have new pictures to post here soon. Her latest pictures are so very cute. Aeryn walked at 11 mos. Now she's really running!

Tell us about your little girl. What color her eyes and hair are. What's her name?

Our Aeryn has dark brown curly hair and blue eyes. She's tiny for her age. She's very alert and doesn't miss a thing. She totally loves to be outside looking at all the flowers and plants. She helps me water the flowers on the deck.

You have sooooo many happy times ahead with yours! :)

I think having grandbabies is such a blessing! And if they live close it's even better. Luckly mine are all near me and I get to see them a lot. I'm raising (adopted) one (Dessie, age 3) and have another one (Cameron, just 7 months younger) that lives just 2 blocks down the street, so for them to be able to grow up together is great. I also have a 6 yr. old grandson (Tristen) that I see on weekends.

It's funny when they argue over why one calls me mommy & the other calls me "Dramall"..lol Or they fight over who gets to sit in my lap, then amazed when they find out there's room for both..lol

It's great to be loved so much and the best part for me is the blown kisses & velcro hugs from a child....

I wish all of my grandchildren could be close. My only other granddaughter lives in Galveston, Tx. That's where my son and family live. That's about a 3 hr. drive from our house. Maybe a little further. Between dh and I we have six children. He has 2 boys and a girl and I have 2 girls and a boy. In all we have 9 grandchildren. My two older grandsons are grown. One just graduated college and is coaching high school football. The other is in his first yr. of college. I go to a lot of football games. *G* It's so nice to be retired and have more time to spend with the grandkids. I love every minute of it. ;)
Dramall! That's cute! How did they come about that name? I am MeeMaw to mine. *G* Dh is GrandPa. It's so nice that your Dessie and Cameron live so close and can grow up together. They will enjoy one another so much.

I enjoyed mine the most when they were old enough to talk to me. They really enjoyed our home because we garage saled and always had new things for them to play with. I also had lots of time to play with them, unlike their parents. I liked to have them one at a time, so I had their full attention. We got to know each other as indiviuals that way. They liked to challenge me with the Nintendo, until I got better than they were. LOL

Jonesy it's such a delight to have Aeryn able to talk to us now!!! She says lots of words and puts short sentences together now. She lets us know what she wants. She loves to be outside. That's her favorite thing to do. Go outside with the dogs and play. She's having fun right now picking up all the acorns in our yard and putting them in her bucket.
