SO confused about flooring for sunroom !!!

I've read through misc. posts re: flooring for sunrooms, read rec. on the Web . . . have had VARYING do's and don't from misc. flooring people around here . . .

and I'm just plain confused !!!

We have a sunroom, not temperature controlled . .

slab floor, windows/doors on three sides, it is roofed, not glass. The windows are all dual-paned, glazed with sun protection. The sunroom is connected to our home. Southern Ca., so not HUGE temp. extremes. Thought I'd really hit on what I wanted . . . a Pergo wood plank . . . PERFECT look for the room !!! Rec. by a designer I'm working with . . . the people that put in our sunroom said laminates are used all the time . . . yet, the flooring place I was working with, said they'd put Pergo in, but wouldn't warranty it. Rec. going with a fiber floor, which I'm not finding anything I'm 100% crazy about. They also suggested Konecto, which seem to have some negative reports. I don't really want to put in tile.

Don't want to deal with anymore grout around here, plus I don't want the expense of tile, since the majority of the floor will be covered by an area rug.

Any "seeing the light" ideas for me ??? Any input ??

Anything will be so much appreciated !!!

Gosh....your sun room sounds exactly like mine!! I know it will be a place where we will gather a lot, so I want a pretty floor but it also has to be a low maintenance floor and one that can handle occasional spills. I have decided to go with a high-end sheet vinyl. Since the room right inside the doors from this sunroom will have real oak, I am not going with a wood look pattern, but will probably go with a stone or brick pattern instead. I have seen sheet vinyl with wood patterns that look great.

So am I and I live in Colorado, talk about the temp in winter... brrr! We use a small floor heater in winter and because we have a hot tub in the sunroom.

If I'd had known, I'd put cork tiles. We have cork flooring in our basement (cement, of course) since 1998 and not having any problems with it since (we have 12x12 non-skid Duraceramic tiles). We chose Classic Marmol, it is so easy to maintain and after it was installed; we applied a coat of Bona Kemi Traffic polyurethane to make it last longer.

the outdoor drain is a storm drain, and you cannot put laundry discharge into it. so you will require plumbing both HOT and COLD to the new locaiton, plus a drain and a vent. this means digging up the floor. how much diggin is involved, well it depends on how close to the existing drain system you are. it could be a small hole, or it could be a trench that runs WAY across your house. it honestly may be cheaper to move the dryer. all i can say is to call and get some estimates.

The vapor barrier is supposed to keep warm, moist air from hitting a cool surface and condensing. In cool climates, the warm air is usually on the inside and the cold is on the outside. jane ny, I was in a similar situation last year. For me the sequence was paint first, then flooring, then baseboards, But it looks like you may have baseboards already installed. Painting first worked for me because I did it myself and there were spatters on the subloor before I was finished. You might want to check on whether your subfloor is indeed covered with plywood, because you may need an underlayment before installing your floor, depending on what you choose. Best to check where you buy the flooring. With some help from a friend who knew what he was doing and owns a Skill Saw, I installed a plywood underlayment in less than two hours. I too wanted tile with a slate or similar look, but the room was already over budget (long story) and I chose to spend my money on high end French doors because the floor could always be changed later. I got some advice from the flooring forum while deciding. You can always post a message there before you proceed. We narrowed floor choices down to either loose-laid sheet vinyl or vinyl tiles. My friend chose the tiles because the color and pattern seemed to fit well in the sunroom/porch. The original intention was to keep those tiles for about a year while I shop for tile and find a good tile installer. I go with the sunroom, too, and here's why. You can build a shed for cheap at some point, and until then you'll probably keep one car inthe driveway, and all the bikes and basketballs in the garage along with the yard and snow tools. The sunroom will make a great playroom while the little ones are little. I've seen that sunroom with nothing in it but a low-pile play rug and Lego. Or balls. Or plastic hockey sticks. Or those big Little Tykes (slide, trikes, trains) Or Hot Wheels. Or dollhouses. Or art projects (easy-to-clean tile floor). Usually just one or two of those. But a great playspace, near you but not, outdoors but not. After they are done with those types of toys, it can be dining space and added living space. You don't need the shed until Boy #1 gets a car. Oops, didn't mean to scare ya lol! Upstairs, I wonder if you can steal some space from the game room to make a reach-in closet for Bedroom 2, and use its walk-in closet to expand the bathroom. 5 boys will need more counterspace, more drawer storage, and (I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm usually a 1-sink gal) 2 sinks. Downstairs, consider eliminating the study closet and adding a shower to the powder room.

ccoombs . . . thanks for your input !! Probably when it all comes down to it, we will end up going with sheet vinyl/fiberfloor . . are they the same thing ??
I should know by now, I guess . . . but still in the land of confusion !! Who woulda thunk that a simple floor for the sunroom would cause so much angst ??!!!!! Not me !!!

cynnamama . . . thanks for your input, also !! Had at one point considered cork . . . but I believe it has to be glued down, and because of water problems we had at one time, it's been advised to use something other than glue-down. I do love cork, however . . .
I'm with you on the not knowing how to post pictures !!
Something I need to learn !!!! The entire time of the kitchen remodel . . . I could never post pics to visualize what I was talking about !! MANY people tried step by step to explain it to me . . .

Cris: I'm doing some legwork for my daughter.
She wants to install " Nature Stone " . It is a beautiful floor.
A doctor friend, had it installed in her Office.

I told her I would try to find some pro's and con's on the product.
I posted a question on this in the Flooring Forum.
