Rocking chair antique-- pls help identify
Comments (11)BUT....it's also a chair..... And while it might not have the salability as an antique one may wish....it's still a usable piece of furniture. You could sell that chair for just what you paid....but then you will have to go buy something to take it's place. Antiques that serve a purpose are different to me than those things you buy and stick in a cupboard in hopes that they will appreciate in value....or worse yet....collecters items. I have a round oak table....bought a long long time ago, before the golden oak boom....so I got a huge bargain. They the bottom dropped out of the golden oak market, and not many years later that table is now worth about 10 times what I paid. If I had invested the money I paid some 45 years ago....likely I would have had more than I could sell that table for....BUT....all these years I have had a table for eating, for homework for projects.......and it's still worth about 10 times what I paid. Comments (23)If possible get a cat - they do wonders. We lived by a horse racing track. When the horses left after the season, the rats would migrate over to the homes. Yikes - I saw one once. Got two cats (a female and a male - female was much better hunter) - never saw or heard from rats again. I am currently battling mice each winter we get one or two. We had good luck with regular old standard "snap" traps baited with peanut butter - so they can't steal the bait, it sticks to the trap. We get them after a night or two. If you have a landlord - let him deal with the problem that is for sure!!! It's his problem and obligation to deal with it in a timely (immediate) manner. It may even be a law. Or just tell him if he doesn't do anything about it - you are getting a cat whether or not they are "banned" from the premises unless he does do something about the problem. It is a total health hazard - not to mention the fact that they can bite. I just bought an ultrasonic thing - too soon to know how it works. But my neighbors have one and swear by it. Didn't cost much. Good luck!...See MoreMaster BR -Big Challenge- Pls Help !- Lots Pics
Comments (38)I got a body pillow at Wally World today for $8.88. (I could have sworn the tag below said they were $14 or something. I think the register made a mistake. I may have to go back and get two more for bolsters for the daybed and stuff them into a casing. They come in beige, blue, brown, green, and maybe gold. It pays to shop. I tried to find material to match the blue in my comforter, but didn't find that yet. Will keep looking. I did find a chenille throw in a similar color - which in a pinch I could use to cover the body pillow. red lover, I know what you mean about trying the stuff out and being able to see it in person. I have a new policy where I have an envelope in my purse which contains all the receipts for the last month or so from shopping for decorator items. You wouldn't believe how much stuff I have returned. I also returned a bunch of molding pieces to HD and Lowes I wasn't going to use and I got a ton of money back - molding is very expensive because they sell it by the foot. Some I get credit for because I returned stuff I couldn't find the receipt for, but I knew I would be buying more stuff there anyway and the gift cards they give you if you don't have the receipt, really help out. red lover, you are so right about getting stuff in person. There are so many diffeent colors out there - greens can be shade off and they still match, but it seems like the blues can really clash. Thanks for your advice. I don't know what to tell you about the comforter you have - unless you can go to a discount fabric place and cover it with something you like? Some stuff is not very well made these days. But even if you can sew, any fabric purchased is more money than you can buy things already made for - so it's a catch 22....See MoreFireplace..eyesore or asset? counter/color scheme/ design help pl
Comments (28)Thanks so much to everyone. Romy718, your room is beautiful!! You do not need to wait for rugs & accessories to know that, it looks great and the colors are so pretty and work great together. Thanks for showing me. And I need to go on back to the backsplash thread and start looking up info on those tiles. I think the one that you said you were using in your own kitchen is my favorite...is it ok if our houses end up looking like cousins?! gpraceman, someday I hope to replace the slate hearth with soapstone. That was my plan for this remodel but budget got tight and we decided to just scrub down the existing slate hearth, my GC put some sort of sealer/enhancer on it; and we painted the shelf White dove same color as our trim. I'm not crazy about it, I really want a thicker distressed wood mantle, but it'll do for now. nyse2502, first, thank you Im so glad to hear you like my fireplace! This thread is from several months ago, in the meantime I had several other threads going round and round on what countertop material to choose. In the end I went away from the Sea Pearl, the Jet Mist, the Steel gray... and ended up with a Calcutta marble on my island that I love and a very plain almost solid gray Silestone on my perimeter which I am really happy with. It was a great solution for me. I got a (relatively) small little chunk of a gorgeous fragile material that I love, and then I have an extremely durable uncomplicated attractive counter everywhere else that I don't have to worry about. I admit to being totally overwhelmed and absorbed with my own reno that I haven't had tons of time to be looking at all the threads on here so maybe I missed it, but have you posted pics of your whole house reno? Sounds like a huge job, congrats on being done! I'll post a picture of my updated fireplace. This room still needs a lot of work...a rug, something on other side of fireplace, different mirror or something else on mantle, a screen for fp...but you get the idea. Thanks for all the support on this thread!...See Morekudzu9
