plain fat-free yogurt....too big!

I've seen some recipes that call for using plain fat-free yogurt to take place of the fat. I'm a person that loves the Yoplait Light flavored yogurts, but have never gotten a taste for plain yogurt. Good thing, as the only containers of plain fat-free yogurt that my stores carry are 32 oz things - BIG! I'd like to try some recipes that call for 1/2 cup at most.

So my first question would be - how long does that stuff last before it goes bad?

Second - can you freeze it in smaller containers, to use as needed? If so, what would I use to freeze it?

The ONLY place that carries a small 8 oz carton of the stuff wants almost as much for the little carton as the grocery stores want for the one 4x the size.

Thanks,
