Grandchild that is living with us and failing at school
Comments (1)Hoakie, I'm surprised you haven't gotten a reply here. I really don't have much to offer except that you must be an angel to help these two children whom you have barely known. I'm sorry it is such a struggle. The kids have been through a lot, and somehow I feel that punishment will just make the 11-year-old angry and resentful. What do the counselor and his teacher say? Why isn't the possibility of being held back enough to spur him to better grades? Can he read well enough, is he strong enough in math? Does he need tutoring? Perhaps having a high schooler help him with homework after school would take some of the strain between you two. I assume he changed schools, and I wonder if this school is farther ahead than his old one, leaving a gap of learning. I'm also thinking that if he moves up a grade, it would be wise to have him in English and math summer school program to help prepare him for next year. I do get the feeling that your husband has kind of left this all up to you--quite a load! Does he spend some time with the boys on weekends or whenever he's free? That would be important, and maybe he can discuss school with the older boy. I realize I'm really no help, but I do sympathize and know how very difficult this is for you. I encourage you to seek help from your counselor, the teachers and even the principal of the school. The boys are lucky to have you....See MoreIs Your Grandchild Outfitted for Cooler Weather?
Comments (3)Jonesy I bet everybody was thrilled to get a chance to buy your dolls!! One of the things I really like about Once Upon A Child is you can resell the childrens clothes back to them once the children have outgrown them. Perk, we drive about 40 miles to get to the nearest store too. Our shop has an area where the children can play while Moms and GrandMoms shop. We took Aeryn over there and she was very good and had fun playing. We really didn't know how she would react when we walked away and out of her sight. But she was fine. She would call out MeMaw just to make sure we were still close by. lol Dancey...See MoreHelping out during birth of 2nd/3rd grandchild
Comments (3)My daughter gave birth to our second grand-daughter this past August. Her first daughter was 2 1/2 years old. My daughter was having a C-section, it had been pre-arranged. Makayla understood her Momma was going to the hospital and the doctor was going to take the new baby out of her Momma's belly. Jenny, my daughter had made up her mind that Makayla was going to stay overnight at her day care the first night of this hospital stay and not stay with us. Not a good night for Makayla, nor the next day. She wasn't a happy child till she stayed with us. Makayla loves to stay with us and we'd happily have kept her but as you know I was only the Grandma and what did I know according to my daughter. Everything was great after Makayla was with us and she loved going to see her Momma and new sister Cassidy, provided Grandma and Grandpa took her to the hospital. The kids really can understand more than they are given credit for....Makayla understood a great deal about this new baby in her Momma's tummy....just a couple of funnies about it though...near the due date one afternoon Makayla asked her Momma to let her new baby sisser out of the tummy...when Momma told her the baby wasn't ready..Makayla told her she wanted to see her new sisser, that she could put her back after seeing her. Also the big ??? HOW did the baby get in Momma's tummy..well the older three year olds at daycare and Makayla say her Mom may have eaten the baby. Comments (22)When my Mum was pregnant for the first time and went into labor, she went to the hospital. The doctor said "when the apple is ripe it will fall from the tree. We don't pick ripe apples." and sent her home. She returned later the same day and delivered. She had 6 kids and tells us we were all late so she was pregnant more than 54 months of her life. With child #5, she was so late they induced her and she picked March 30th because she thought having an April Fool's day birthday would be awful(and the 30th would provide 2 days to get it done). Naturally, child #5 has always wished she had an AFD birthday. Our BIL and a nephew, who do have an AFD birthdays, love to tell her how it is the best birthday. Hope all is well with you and yours.
