Now for Some Good News About Marriage

Today is my husband's and my 25th Wedding Anniversary. We are the parents of three children, and life has not always been easy. Through everything, both good and bad, we have remained committed to each other and to our marriage. The effort is so worth it!

Happy anniversary to you! May you have many more happy years together.

DH & I are 29 years together. Somehow it's gone by so fast -- not always easy, but for the most part wonderful. We often say to each other how much we want at least another 30 years together. I'm working hard on my health & fitness to help make it so.

oh come on now! She must've been smokin something. I've seen lots of deer lately on the side of the road and they ignore my car and keep eating except for the babies. We have coyotes and recently spotted Black bear. There are a few deer that cross over each evening from one side of the road to the other every night. They killed one baby oak a couple years ago, but there is so much other land around they moved on, thank goodness. In the summer the dogs would announce their arrival by the neighbors pond before the deer crossed the road as it started to get dark.

Thanks for the compliments on the annual pot! I worked for a private gardener one summer many years ago and my job was to do the annual pots and take care of them all summer. They ordered truck loads of gorgeous and rare annuals for their customers. I WISH I had access to something more interesting, but I make due (sp?) with what the local nurseries sell.... geraniums, million bells, licorice, potato vines, petunias, etc... I have 2 of these pots in my back done the same way and every year all I do is change the color of the million bells and geranium. It always comes out nice, but I think I'm getting bored with the same design every year. Oops, sorry to go on... thanks!

I'm pretty sure there is more to it than what has been said. It's almost impossible to put it all in one post. What I interpret is that he doesn't have a problem with your daughter's kids, but that if you had custody of them, he'd have to deal with your daughter, which he has washed his hands of. You seem to agree that he has cause to feel that way so at least you are on the same page there. If she's that bad that her own mother has had enough, then I feel really sorry for those kids. Yes, they will always be tied to their mother, even if you have custody. and so you have to choose between your grandkids and your husband of 17 years. OUCH! Perhaps you could seek legal advice on getting guardianship of the kids and a restraining order on her? I don't know how bad she is or if you just don't agree with her choices. But, if it's hurting your grandkids, you have to put them first. They are kids and need someone in their corner. If it has to be you, then it has to be you. If he can't deal with it, then it's unfortunate. It sounds like a real mess if there are accusations from your daughter (of what?) that your husband doesn't want to deal with. I feel like there's a lot more to it than what you've said. If he just stuck around to help raise your kids, then they are raised and now he is going to leave because you 'might' get your grandkids. It's really a no win situation.

finedreams: All of the religious counselors I have ever heard speak regarding marriage problems, have always suggested that abuse and infidelity are grounds for divorce. I believe that people who stay in a marriage where either occurs may hold on to this as the reason they stay. I would venture to guess that they actually stay because of fear. Whether it is a fear of being alone, or a fear of being unlovable, or a fear of supporting themselves or children on their own, or a fear of the violent person getting visitation rights and their inability to protect their children, or fearing that if they left, that they would make their spouse very angry, or all of the above, I think it boils down to fear. Perhaps they don't want to lose their home and life as they know it. And it is easier to use the vows and church as their reason for staying in such a situation, than to admit that they are afraid to be alone. When chronic infidelity occurs within a marriage, perhaps they feel responsible somehow. Or their sense of self esteem is so damaged, but again, I think it often is fear that keeps them from leaving. Or perhaps they don't leave because they really do not want another woman/man parenting their children, or involved in the lives of the children and family.

Happy 25th Anniversary! I like your comment about marriage being hard work, but so worth it! I totally agree. I also like awm's comment about being committed to staying healthy in order to celebrate many more anniversaries.

DH & I celebrated our 20th last week.

Do you have any special plans to celebrate? Whatever you do, enjoy!

Congratulations on joining the 25+ club! It does go by soooo fast! We just celebrated our 26th in March, and weathered a year of my husband being unemployed.

Happy Anniversary! He he, On our 25th, I wrapped myself in aluminum foil (for the "silver" look) but I was laughing so hard it wasn't very sexy! DH and I are approaching our 35th in Sept.

Congratulations ! You are so lucky to have each other. It is certainly hard work and as the others said it is so important to keep working at the relationship . Staying healthy is one of the best things you can do for each other.

We will have 40 years in February...I sure hope we have decades more too. DH just retired on the 14th of May so we have entered whole new territory. c

Congratulations!! My brother and his wife celebrated 24 years yesterday. In August DH and I will have been married 12 years, but together for 21. On our 16th wedding anniversary we're going to celebrate as if it's our 25th.

I love hearing about these great long term unions. It CAN work!

2010 will be our official 19th - we dated for six years before we got married so 'unofficially' it's 25 years.

Happy Anniversary! How nice you shared with us.

Also, a nice idea for a thread. We are 32 years together, married 30 last Sept. Both my sisters have been married quite a few years longer than I have and I am in the middle. My best friend has been married 40 yrs last fall. Seems most of our friends have very long marriages as well.

Congratulations! DH and I had our 25th on June 2. Hard to believe that we have been together a quarter of a century, and just a bit less than 1/2 of our lives. We have weathered some storms, but then those times make the good times even more sunny!

We agreed to a contract for 60 years when we married, so we have 35 to go, and then we can re-up or go our separate ways! LOL

Congratulations! That's not very common now days. Did you guys plan anything fun?

Today is our 3rd! :) We've been together almost 6 years though which sounds a little better.

We celebrated our 28th this year. I feel so very blessed with the marriage we have. He still makes my knees weak. . .

And Shee - happy anniversary to you too! I know you're well on your way to 25 - and more!

I don't know many people that have been married that long and it's nice to see that people still believe in marriage & the day to day of staying together.

Thank you all! Lots of marriage longevity on this thread. My parents will celebrate 55 years in July, and my in laws will celebrate 62 years the end of June. We are in Fredericksburg (Texas) for the week. We like to come over here and stay in B&B's and relax. There are some amazingly good restaurants here because of the tourist trade.

Congratulations! We'll celebrate 39 years in December. Trailrunner, I know what you mean about "whole new territory". My DH retired May 29th. And, while tears come to my eyes to think of life without him, if he relocates one more item in this house, I may have to beat him to death with a ballbat in his sleep. (My daughter says I shouldn't publicly announce this because the prosecutor could call everyone as witnesses. I say it would be justifiable homicide)
