Hi D'Ann........ It took me a while to figure it out too, BUT I got it now. Take a look under the quilt itself and there should be an icon that says something like 'VOTE FOR THIS QUILT'. Select that and then fill out the info and you are complete. I still dont know anything about the rules of winning in Florida. It bums me out to even think there would be a reason to not include Florida.

I've used a wheelchair consistently in the past (when severe chronic pain was not adequately treated - ok, not at all - and we did not have a car so were reliant on public transit) and from time to time I still rent one when going somewhere where normally one would be doing a lot of standing and walking and there is expected to be a shortage of places to sit (like the home shows they have in local arenas), and I have to say that I found/find it a H*LL of a lot easier to be a "socially acceptable disabled person" when on my own wheels (as opposed to a store-provided scooter or wheelchair) - people can SEE the disability (the wheelchair), therefore it exists to them. I use a cane about 2/3 of the time right now, my PT and paindoc want me to use it only when I really must because it can cause compensation strains/injuries even when properly fitted and used, and I see a very distinct difference in how people behave toward me WRT things like handicapped parking when I have my cane than when I don't, although there are still those twerps (usually elderly) who are clueless enough to insist that I can't possibly need either my parking tag or my kick-@$$ purple paisley cane :-) because I'm "too young". *eyeroll* I suppose I should be glad I don't look how I feel because young children would run away screaming, people would be keeling over with heart attacks, I would leave a swath of destruction behind me everywhere I went! LOL I did get a hand-me-down wheelchair off Freecycle so that I wouldn't have to rent one for the aforementioned uses but the clunker was so heavy I couldn't maneuver it even on a smooth, flat surface so I re-Freecyled it. :-( I have the police parking-enforcement office phone number on my cell phone, and I WILL call in cars parked in the handicapped spaces that don't have plates/tags. I do check the dashboard and seat (if I can, I'm not clambering up on some bloody Hummer) to see if someone just tossed their hang-tag onto the dash or left it on the seat instead of hanging it properly on the mirror. Where I live it's a minimum $250 and in some towns $500 (!) fine to park in a handicapped space without authorization. I goofed once, left my hang-tag in DH's car, parked in my usual space at the drugstore without even realizing my tag wasn't where it belonged and got a ticket, but I took it and my tag and my driver's license (which has a symbol on it showing that I'm an authorized tag owner) to the police station and they cancelled it right then and there. (Mari, typing from bed... went to Yule party half an hour's drive away today and too ouchy to sleep but too tired to sit up, and next weekend I'm going to do it again! Oy!)

These are some of the specials that have been around here the last few weeks, but not all at the same time or at the same store: Red grapes 99¢/# Taters 10#/99¢ Turkey 89¢/# Apples 89¢ for a 3# bag (one day only) Tide 100 oz $4.88/coupon Canned veggies 10/$3 Brown/powdered sugar 99¢ Sugar 5#/$1.49 Pillsbury flour $1.39 (5#) Several Name brand coffees (Maxwell House, MJB, Yuban, Hills Bros) $4.88-$4.99 for what USED to be a 3# can! Now it's what, 33-35 oz? Don't recall offhand Ground beef around here is relatively expensive, but usually pretty good quality. Ground Angus $1.99, Ground chuck $1.89, and often ground beef for around $1.89-$1.99 is the going "sale" prices. Minnesota here. And we don't have a lot of competition in the grocery market. The average person has essentially two options, Cub and Rainbow. I do have a Festival which is close by but they are higher priced. There's also Lund's/Byerly's (now same merged) but they're the yuppie/upscale and high-buck places. I sure miss the days of Country Club, Kroger, IGA, Applebaum's, National and the like. There was competition then. Aldi is growing in the area. I like it, but it's not a place you can get everything you need. They have great meat. Also have a pork sausage patty that is terrific. Bag salad is cheap. Don't care for their canned soups and the other thing is that the items vary often. So if you find something you like, don't bet on it being there in two weeks. But that's the nature of the store.

The Garden Of Evening Mists - Tan Twan Eng This is probably the most "normal" novel in the whole set. It's an account of a Straits Chinese woman in Malaya (as it was) and her relationship with a Japanese gardener after the second world war. It's written in the first person, from the point of view of the woman. (The author is male - I'd be interested in hearing from some of the other posters here how well you feel he succeeded in that.) It's a very fine story, and written very well - some lovely touches in it. And it is a book which rewards re-reading, to my mind. This year, the judges have definitely selected books which are unashamedly "literary" - the books have all seemed quite hard going on first reading, and have all improved on a second reading. My summary:- Bring Up the Bodies - I'd love to see it win, but I think the success of Wolf Hall means it probably won't. Umbrella - too hard for me, and in my opinion, too clever-clever. But I can see the quality of the writing, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it won. The Garden of Evening Mists - a lovely novel - I'd enjoy seeing this win. I suspect it'll just fall short. Narcopolis - naaah. To be fair, I've only read it once, but I can't see enough in it. Swimming Home - Urgh. I hope it doesn't win. The Lighthose - Much better on a second reading. Might be an outsider. So - my prediction is Umbrella or Bring Up the Bodies. Now watch Swimming Home win. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Victoria and Albert Museum on October 16th. It's normally made at about 10:30 in the evening, London time.
