Well I picked up Gunther's Prize today. When I got home and after a cup of coffee went out with my camera and shovel to plant then take a picture to post. When I turned the pot over the stem seperated from the roots. I thought OMG I broke it. Turns out the stem had rotted at the root ball. So I called back and their going cut another eye from the mother plant for me tomorrow. Should get a picture posted over the weekend since it's supposed to pour here tomorrow. For those of you who may live in NJ the American Conifer Society is having an open auction on May 19, 2012 in Walttownship, NJ near Belmar. The nursery will be donating a good division of Gunther's Prize if anyone is interested in bidding on it. Scott

I've used a wheelchair consistently in the past (when severe chronic pain was not adequately treated - ok, not at all - and we did not have a car so were reliant on public transit) and from time to time I still rent one when going somewhere where normally one would be doing a lot of standing and walking and there is expected to be a shortage of places to sit (like the home shows they have in local arenas), and I have to say that I found/find it a H*LL of a lot easier to be a "socially acceptable disabled person" when on my own wheels (as opposed to a store-provided scooter or wheelchair) - people can SEE the disability (the wheelchair), therefore it exists to them. I use a cane about 2/3 of the time right now, my PT and paindoc want me to use it only when I really must because it can cause compensation strains/injuries even when properly fitted and used, and I see a very distinct difference in how people behave toward me WRT things like handicapped parking when I have my cane than when I don't, although there are still those twerps (usually elderly) who are clueless enough to insist that I can't possibly need either my parking tag or my kick-@$$ purple paisley cane :-) because I'm "too young". *eyeroll* I suppose I should be glad I don't look how I feel because young children would run away screaming, people would be keeling over with heart attacks, I would leave a swath of destruction behind me everywhere I went! LOL I did get a hand-me-down wheelchair off Freecycle so that I wouldn't have to rent one for the aforementioned uses but the clunker was so heavy I couldn't maneuver it even on a smooth, flat surface so I re-Freecyled it. :-( I have the police parking-enforcement office phone number on my cell phone, and I WILL call in cars parked in the handicapped spaces that don't have plates/tags. I do check the dashboard and seat (if I can, I'm not clambering up on some bloody Hummer) to see if someone just tossed their hang-tag onto the dash or left it on the seat instead of hanging it properly on the mirror. Where I live it's a minimum $250 and in some towns $500 (!) fine to park in a handicapped space without authorization. I goofed once, left my hang-tag in DH's car, parked in my usual space at the drugstore without even realizing my tag wasn't where it belonged and got a ticket, but I took it and my tag and my driver's license (which has a symbol on it showing that I'm an authorized tag owner) to the police station and they cancelled it right then and there. (Mari, typing from bed... went to Yule party half an hour's drive away today and too ouchy to sleep but too tired to sit up, and next weekend I'm going to do it again! Oy!)

Btw I'm jesse I'm very new to the plumeria forum as I have only been growing plumerias for about a year & 1/2 but I managed to get 8 plumies already and I want more as I'm addicted to them :). I mean who isn't after their first one?! I'm from Orange CA born and raised but currently live in riverside CA. Btw I would of never thought to root plumeria in water! I thought it would rott. I'm definitely going to try it when I get a cutting. When I bought some plumerias I was given 4 cutting that had a lot of green on them not that mature. I got them to root but it took forever. I put them in water to plump up because they were really soft by the time I got home (they were already kinda soft when I received them. They were free so I took them) and then I put rooting hormone on them the next day and mixed miracle grow soil with perlite and put them in 1 gallon pots with black stones ontop of the soil and watered good and put in direct sun and I did mist the cuttings so they wouldn't go soft again. I did water the soil every few days because in direct sun the soil dried out pretty quick. They did root I recently gave 2 away and I kept 2 I dont remember what Variety they are all I know they were some sort of pink. They bloomed but don't even remember how they look like I was on vacation when they started. now they have 3 branches on them. I feel that I did a good job for my first time at rooting plumeria cuttings. Now that I remember I also rooted another cutting along with those 4. It's a cutting that is very special to me know that was gifted to me by my Uncle when he saw I had just got into plumerias he already had 2 but he had bought some cuttings and he gave me one. When he gave me the cutting it had flowers on it and it was a Y the blooms I kind of remember were 2 or possibly 3 dark colors I remember I liked it a lot. When I first tried to root it I failed and it rotted so then had to save it and cut off and just kept 1 cutting that eventually rooted and now has formed another Y but haven't seen it bloom again. It's very special to me because my uncle has Gone to heaven this past December and he left me my last great gift that I will treasure. Anyways But I will definitely next time try the water rooting.
