Pizza Party Prize Winner

But, before I get to that....

I really want to thank everyone for making this such a fun party. I know most of you probably hear the same thing I do from friends and family that really don't understand how much fun we have here on the CF.

I intended to comment on every body's pizza(s)...but it got overwhelming! The creativity was wonderful! I really hope we can do something in the future like this. Actually there's already been some ideas and suggestions...

Hi Guys...thanks for ALL your great and helpful suggestions. We had our party yesterday. The weather was Sunny and 'nippy'...but just right!! The kids enjoyed the 'haunted' shed and the outdoor graveyard in the field. We even gave them 'hay rides' in my husband's tractor cart that was filled w/hay. We set up benches and a iron chiminea and they toasted marshmallows. I had a pumpkin hunt, hid 48 of them while my friend read Halloween Stories to them. The candy corn jar was a hit. The adults were really competitive with the guessing, as well as the voting for the Best Carved Pumpkin. The first prize in the kids group,was a 3 1/2 yr old. SHE actually painted a cute face on her pumpkin, and was so proud. We didn't get to play any other games, because they were having too much fun doing different things. So, all in all, it went really well. I had made goodie bages for all the kids, and also for the adults. I had collected some vines from my yard, and made small wreaths (15) and hot glued some small autumn fruits and berries and orange organze ribbon (from Michaels),and placed them over - glass votive holders that were 3 for $1, w/pumpkin spice votives..and that was their gift. The adult prizes went pretty well. (3)...the fall centerpiece in small clay flowerpot. two mugs - a dollar each with,two - a dollar each fall plaid napkins and some cocoa packets, and then a small ceramic pumpkin w/4 Halloween Napkins...I let the first place winner choose first, then the second and third. It went over really well, and everyone kept saying how much fun they all had and that the kids had the best time. Even got some calls back this morning to express what a great time they had!! So, thanks again. Oh! also we did a Pot Luck, and EVERYONE outdid themselves...all wanting each others receipes!! Whew...I'm just so relieved it went well, and now I can RELAX...til Christmas!!! LOL

Well, I was concerned in the beginning that no one was going to participate. :( But the Jubilee was a big success with 17 people submitting pictures of their Valentine's Creations. And everything was so special and unique. We had some new people participate too which is great!!! And it was so much fun that I wanted to do something special and decided to take a page from Nancy's Pizza Party and have a drawing for a prize. I can't wait till next year!!! I think I had more fun the Valentine's Day then I had at Christmas!!! Michelle

Lord, I remember those kids parties. and how hard it is to get a RSVP answer. The best parties my two girls had came in the summer, when I opened our home and pool to their young friends. I remember once, inviting everyione in my daughters class plus several girls from her dancing school, and planning on 30-40, yet only five or six showed. We had plenty of food (pizza), cake and a pinata. I had scads of leftover take-home "goodie' bags (little favors for the girls to take home. I let my two girls keep the extras.One thing I always did-invite the kids for a Friday night to Saturday morning sleepover, and decorate the house and yard. I made everyone a big breakfast on Saturday, then had the "family" party on Sunday afternoon where grandparents, aunts and uncles came over. I left up the decorations till after the family party was over. One Grandma used to bring food, no matter that I begged her not to. I remember once she brought a half-tray of her homemade lasagna, there wasn't enough for everyone. I was so embarassed, but I managed to fill-in with cold cuts and salads and lots of fried chicken. Glad those days are long over. My two daughters are now 20 and 21. Parties are all over. Your Nicks looked like fun.

As I say, I'm disappointed that David Mitchell didn't make it. However, when I look at it dispassionately, I'm probably not surprised. It's six interconnecting stories, over the course of one woman's lifetime. However, there is a "fantasy" element about the stories; and in particular, the fifth story is exclusively about this fantasy element. It's not too much of a stretch to say that the fifth story is a battle between good and evil. It's perhaps a little too off-the-wall for a Booker short-list. I enjoyed it a lot, but it's certainly not as good, in my opinion, as Cloud Atlas. There's a nice bit of self-referentialism (is that a word?) in The Bone Clocks. An author tells his agent that he is planning a book which is going to be "a bit fantasy"; his agent says to him that a book can't be a bit fantasy, any more than a woman can be a bit pregnant.

WOW....31 People!!! I think that might be a record for our Virtual Dinners.

I'm pretty sure the grand prize will be something really wonderful!!! Great job Nancy!

nancy, this was a great idea and what a fantastic turn-out. can you imagine if we had all been together in person prepping and eating pizza? what a blast that would have been.

so far i have two under my belt - burgers and pizza. looking forward to hearing about the next virtual dinner.
