Unknown kitchen gadget

DH was at an estate auction and brought home a big box lot of kitchen items. This one has me stumped. It's about 10" long with two very sharp curved blades about 4" long and 3/4" apart. I'm guessing it's some sort of slicer for a specific food ingredient. Can anyone help me identify it? Thanks, Ruth

P.S. The small ramekin is only there to elevate it a bit for the photo.

I bought the pull and chop as a present and tried it- now I have to get one myself!! Thanks beachem! I don't know if it is kosher to post here but I saw that bargainhunter above posted about how useful the Thermomix was. I am now selling my older model Euro Thermomix TM21 including the 240V transformer (to allow it to work on North American 120V circuits) on our craigslist if someone wants to try out the Thermomix abilities at a bargain price and is driving distance to Baltimore. It works well and I am including several Thermomix cookbooks. You can pm me if you want to see the listing. I also have a small electric egg cooker that I no longer use since I get consistently perfect hard boiled eggs on my induction cooktop so any gardenwebber is welcome to that if they can pick it up. Also several slow cookers that I don't use since I got my instant pot- just pm me. Would be great if someone could arrange a gardenweb kitchen gadgets or equipment swap /giveaway date some time!

We have a 6 qt Nuwave and love it. My favorite thing to make in it are steaks, believe it or not. They are like they are grilled on a gas grill (nothing as good as charcoal) and easy to have done to your perfect inside temp. As our grill season is very short here, I love being able to have steak the other 9 months out of the year without having to clean splatters all over the stove. My kids love fried ravioli and you can do homemade easily in the air fryer. Thaw frozen ravioli and bread with egg and breadcrumbs/parm and spritz with oil and cook in the AF until crispy. Wings are great in the AF too without the mess and babysitting of deep frying. I have a large Breville toaster oven with convection and a range with convection and the way an air fryer works is much different. The air speed is much greater which crisps things faster without over cooking. In fact, if you make burgers in one and toss on a slice of cheese without something on top to hold it down, the cheese will fly off the burger before it melts.

This little oven is so easy to use! If you want to check something for doneness, you can open it as often as you like and it will start back up as soon as you close the door. You can also add things to the basket later on in the cooking process. It comes with a metal grate that can be used in a couple of ways.....including to layer items in your recipe or to heat things up in the last few minutes of cooking the main item. We have air fried some large breaded cod filets with great results, he has made a baked potato with the most crunchy, flavorful skin. I toasted some pecans for salads, Tonight, I'm going to air bake some chicken breasts and thighs after being given a light spritz of oil and a sprinkling of our favorite herbs and spices. No breading. I know that the skin will be browned and crisp on the top and bottom. For dessert lovers, you can bake in this appliance, too. Even use your own oven safe baking dishes, as long as they fit.

bees needs, one thing that I have become completely weary of is deep storage. I know that you say that you have lots of storage. Storage areas were the very first to be excavated in my downsizing. My thinking is that, if it never sees the light of day, it needs to go. I haven't regretted clearing out the things in the back of the house. When we moved my mom out of her house I found a lot of big Tupperware that had sat in the back of a cabinet so long that it had turned yellow. I don't let things like that happen. Those "as seen on TV" items are what I call "weenie roasters" . They are basically useless and cheap stuff that was never useful or needed at all. There really were weenie roasters sold. Depending on your age, you may remember them. They were a little electric cylinder cooker that you put a weenie in and in about half an hour had a roasted weenie. That is right up there with the iced tea maker, which is just a bigger weenie roaster. So much of what is promised in those ads just ends up as nothing more than pure landfill. They are laughable, at best. I would like to have a mandolin, but keep seeing things more on par with what you have described, things that are not well made and have a lot of negatives. So, I just don't buy any one at all. That has become my default position, to just NOT buy anything.

Thank you. Salad scissors it is. I don't think they'll improve my quality of life enough to give them a space.

Well, I'd have never guessed it, I was thinking along the line of herbs, though, so at least it was green and leafy stuff.

Like you, I don't think I'd get enough use out of them to give them kitchen space, but I'm betting you know someone who would love them.

I'm wondering if they can be sharpened? Does the orange button lock them closed or will it move the white bottom out of the way to sharpen the blades? They look really comfortable to hold. I hope you enjoy them. I always manage to pick up old stuff. Have a lot of things of my moms and grannys'.

I have salad scissors, I don't think they can be sharpened.

*As a side note...while looking for my salad scissors to help answer your post, I came across my poultry shears. This is cool because I was just on Amazon to order some.

Salad scissors........hmmm.

My kids got me the OXO salad chopper. I love it, and when I make a chopped salad, the kids eat most of it. I can't complain when they eat veggies.

It's basically a double pizza slicer, but it works well.

Carolssis, the button locks the bottom piece up to cover the blades. The blades don't look like they'd be sharpenable.

One of the local churches has what they call a Cook's Attic flea market and sale every year so the salad scissors will join the box of items to be donated and find a more loving home than mine.

I am keeping a vintage horn carving fork and a heavy ceramic colander for myself though.

Diane sent me a ceramic colander in a swap (2008), and I really love it.

Salad scissors sound silly. Why wouldn't one just use regular kitchen scissors for salads, if they wanted to? I use scissors for cutting herbs and green onion tops, but not much else for a salad, as I prefer knives. I usually tear lettuce, but I do use a knife to remove the rib, which I eat by itself - sort of like celery.
