Dining Room Furniture for a Small Room? (Photos inc.)
Comments (29)I have passed your ideas about the built-ins to DH. I think this WOULD be the most attractive yet efficient use of space . . .and I've always wanted a window seat!!! We'll see what DH says. He is pretty handy, but he's never done anything like that at ALL. Too bad I don't have more $, because I do know a reasonably-priced, perfectionist carpenter! I am glad that you have pointed out that there wouldn't be much space to store things in the corner units, esp. the bookcase. I had wondered about that, but you've confirmed it. Maybe that bookcase was meant more to display things other than books? I like the idea of storing books behind the doors of a cabinet because it would mean I wouldn't have to search for a bookcase, but I am not sure how practical it would be . . .I find older pieces harder to open/close so I wouldn't want the kids to that regularly. Also, if the books are put away, they probably won't use them, since they'd be out of sight/out of mind. The binders in that room will be moved elsewhere, however! Some of you suggested painting that gold mirror . . .maybe I should. I don't know what to do with it! I bought it "custom" because it went with some other frames I had, but I am not in love with it. I'd rather go for something with more curves, etc.-- old! Ah, so many decorating mistakes I've made! Anyway, this thread has been so helpful! I cannot tell you how much it has helped me!!!!...See MoreLiving room/dining room furniture placement help.
Comments (12)I moved some things around and I think I like it better. I know the rug is too small and it shouldn't be "floating" but I don't want a new one until we get the other changes done. I moved the dresser into the dining room and hung (probably too high but couldn't convince 6'3" hubby to lower it and he had a point about being out of reach of the tornado. haha) the sign and pictures that had been on the mantle in the dining room. We also took off the ridiculous trim board they had up because we will be replacing the slider soon. So many things in this house like that silliness. I organized most of the books and moved the bookshelf. And grabbed a few canvases (I know they are small but can't remember where we left my big one) I did the flower, my dad painted the one on the right in Vietnam in '68. We need to fix the coffee table my dad built that's in the garage, I'll put it in front of the sofa, it's a little under 6'long, so it might be technically too big but, again, it's what I have. How'd I do?...See MoreOpen concept living room + dining room - furniture advice needed
Comments (3)Once you have furniture in your space the chair rail will not be noticed on that side. It will not be the focal point. Your furnishings and artwork will be what people will see. Also, spaces that are completely balanced are not nearly as interesting as having a little asymmetry here and there imo....See MoreGreat room to Dining Room Transition Furniture
