Hi, Lindsay. I've got a few furniture arrangements to consider. They all have a moveable island cart for the kitchen. The first two are similar to your current set-up, in that they define the entry. One has the reversible chaise while the other is a regular sofa. The last one has a sideboard behind the sofa. It would serve as a sofa table and provide additional storage. You could think about placing your less frequently used kitchen items in there. The last one also has a reversible chaise. Pottery Barn has some reversible chaises, but I'm not certain their upholstered furniture is of high quality, so you'll want to look into that. Their case goods may be okay. I admit, I've never quite understood the idea of having both a living room and a family room, esoecially in an open concept house. I grew up in an era where houses had separate rumpus rooms, usually in the basement, where little kids could have their toys and bigger kids could hang out without interfering with or messing up the adult areas of the house. The living room was where the adults watched tv, entertained or read, and that area might have been a separate room, or open to the dining room. So I guess my question would be, how do you plan on using those two rooms that will give them each a clear purpose?

If I have a dining room chandelier and pendant over the coffee table, is that too busy? Should the coffee light be a ceiling flush mount instead? Maybe a very limited combo of potlights "p", and then lamps, Light fixtures "LF", with some Scones "s"

If you want a TV in that room the only place it can really go is to the right of the fireplace (maybe to the left if you find that works better for you). It is never recommended to put it over the fireplace unless there is nowhere else for it to go. You have more than enough space on the right for a nice console. Maybe in the future you can do something more dramatic with the fireplace as it looks small in that large wall (or maybe you are already and it's not finished yet). Put a tall piece of art over it (something that is less wide than the fireplace). Face your sofa toward the fireplace and TV. The dining table should have the long side parallel to the slider. I can't imagine it fitting the other direction. I don't think it's a bad thing to have your old furniture in there for a while. It will help you get an idea of the right size for new pieces. You may also get better advice if you post a graph paper drawing of the space so the commenters know exactly how much space you're working with. The perspective in pictures is sometimes misleading.
