car insurance - rental car coverage

User

I might need to rent a car in the near future, and want to be covered without having to buy the rental car company's insurance.

On my on vehicle (it's an older car) I have liability but no comp/collision.

According to my insurance agent, there is a non-owned car coverage available, but it has both liability and comp/collision, and they initially quoted me for both. Wouldn't the liability coverage extend to the rental car? I had checked with my insurance several years ago and they said it would, but not the comp/collision (since I don't carry it).

So, if I need to rent a car, should I just add the non-owned comp and collision? I think it runs about $30 / 6 months, while the both would be about $100 / 6 months.

My credit card also has rental car coverage but I don't want to rely totally on it.
