Had a car accident -The other driver has no insurance...

Last week I had a minor fender bender. Actually a nuisance.A bit of damage to my bumper. No one hurt. The other driver did not yield to service road traffic when I did and ran into me. She was very nice, very upfront. She said her husband had been sick for a while and to keep up the mortgage she let her insurance lapse(4 months ago).

She did her best to talk me out of calling police and filing a report. Gave me about 4 numbers, home address, etc. But, I went ahead and called the police and got a report. SO glad I followed instinct on that one!!

She ended up getting a ticket for no driver's license, no insurance, and following me too close.

All this time she was extremely cooperative and very ready to step up and take care of this.

I called and gave her an estimate and she said "well the estimates I got were about half of that". How could she get an accurate estimate on MY vehicle? She said that you can call and tell them what is wrong and ask how much it would cost to fix. This of course has nothing to do with the type of paint you have, parts, labor etc.

So she asked me to fax her the info and I did and am now waiting to hear from her. I also put on there that both places that gave me estimates expect a 2 day minimum to fix my car and she would need to provide me with a rental for those two days.

Does this sound unreasonable to anyone?

My wish for today would be that everyone would keep insurance on their vehicle (Ummm- that is the law right?)What a mess.

Ya'll got a car accident story to share?
