I have six identical chairs in my dining area at my dining table. It doesn't seem like "too much" although at that point, I think if I had them next to bar stools I would go with a different type of stool. I also think you could do four in the middle, and then go with some type of upholstered chairs at the ends. I would look for an upholstered end chair that had a back that mimicked the shape of the back of the bamboo chairs that I chose, and also hope for similar finishes on the two types of chairs. I would add the blue and white Chinoiserie pattern with a table runner, placemats or napkins or some kind of center pieces. I wouldn't do chair cushions only because a lot of the time that pattern would not be visible. I would love seeing it, so I'm not ruling it out, just saying I'd try and get the most visual bang for my buck. As an aside, I am not a fan of chairs with arms at the ends of tables. In use, they just seem awkward to me and also take up more space when not in use than is necessary and add unnecessary cost to a dining chair. YMMV. Edited after I saw Penny's photo so say, "I wish there was a LOVE button for a post!" The plus point about having armchairs at the end of a table is that they can do double duty in other parts of the house when not in use for dining. That's how I use my end chairs with arms. Unfortunately they end up being quite tight in my small dining room. But if I had a dining room like the one in that photo, and the money, heck, I'd go all out and definitely get custom upholstered pieces!!

The rug is OK and I am loathe to tell someone to spend extra money when they just asked about curtains, but if you have an alternate spot for the rug or don't mind donating it to charity or something, I think you could do better with a different rug. The rug you have is nice, but very geometric and a whole different color palette than the couch. They kind of fight for dominance in the room. You might be able to find a rug that plays nicer with your couch, in terms of color and design. Maybe just work on the curtains, not worry too much about the rug, but then after you get the curtains, keep your eyes out for a better rug that "ties the room together." (Esoteric movie reference from "The Big Lebowski.") Use the floral design from the couch as your color palette when making choices for the room. Don't worry about the walls, they are pale enough to fade into the background once you get the curtains and some art up on the walls.

the floor plan is to scale for your room, sofa and (from web) a baby grand piano. Without other measurements of the two openings, it’s just a guesstimate. I see the rug as the biggest problem. I like it, understand why you want to keep it, but it just doesn’t fit properly in that space. I see other seating behind the French doors. Could you use the rug there? Two sofas will not work. The piano must be kept away from the windows. I was able to get two swivel chairs into a seating arrangement with the leather sofa and the (great) coffee table. I put a wing chair in the other corner. As you can see, I just couldn’t fit another sofa into the room. The rug…if it were centered on the fireplace and windows, would all legs of the piano be on it? If you give me the rug measurements, I will put it into the floor plan. As for swivel chairs which would look good with the sofa, I think these, from Target (good reviews) would work nicely. With all the big pieces in the room, don’t do smalls. Get a large oil painting (or good repro canvas) in deep colors. Not quite the sofa tone…just a place holder.

I'm not a pro. It's a beautiful space. I don't care much for carpet and would do area rugs instead. Although rustic is what first sings to me about your space, you could possibly do an eclectic mix of several styles, maybe incorporating rustic, MCM, and industrial, for example, or rustic, Craftsman, and bohemian.
